I find myself in the position of firing a female employee next week (attitude problems, rude to the customers, etc.). Ive never had to do it before, and while I have no problem pulling the trigger on anyone, I want to make sure I do it the right way so it wont bite me in the ass later.
Suggestions on doing it properly?
Suggestions on doing it properly?
It's a PITA but so are most things worth doing.
The Shop
Luxon 4-Post Bar Mounts
$189.95 - $239.95
DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
Just sucks having to do it.
Keep your statement to her very short and to the point.
I would assume you already have proper documentation and warnings prepared
although you would not need them for the actual firing but for future isues
with unemployement hearings etc.
Have your personnel department prepare her final paycheck in advance
so she has no reason to return to the business.
Escort her off the premises, this would include gathering up any of her personal
effects, clearing her work area etc. By doing this you avoid any rapport with present
employees ( stirring the pot ) .
I actually believe that firing the employee first thing in the morning and "getting
it over with" is best, instead of the "waiting" all day for the final bell to ring to do it.
Just cover your bases as best possible, sometimes it goes easy, sounds like she might
be a handful... good luck!
Also, even if she's only a student employee/intern whatever don't be surprised if she takes some legal action. I fired a girl two years ago for stealing and she sued. She stole a cell phone and made dozens of calls on it - some of them to her home phone which is how we found out for sure who it was - and then we physically caught her with the phone, and she still sued. She lost of course, but just be prepared.
I never want anyone to be able to get UE if I can help it. Its like WC here in Ga. The more claims you have the higher your rate.
We have to have 3 write ups and have someone present ( a female in this case) when you go over those write ups.
Its really not that hard to fire someone who is not doing their job properly.
What Burro and FCR said is spot on. MAKE SURE you have someone in the room with you so you dont have any questions raised.
I have Fired plenty of guys but only one girl. Girls will take it personal and that is were the trouble begins.
So how did they look? Did they feel real?
Can we see? Dang...this thread is useless without pictures.
Bull-fucking-shit......Union cocksuckers can make life a hell of a lot more miserable than some little bitch. you don't need to ask how I know.
Pit Row
1. Have one of their fellow employees come to your office, have a large cardboard box ready, then call the victim in.
2. Can 'em, take their company ID.
3. Don't let them speak, hand them a prepared, addressed envelope with postage and tell them they can write up a grievance and mail it to you (which you promptly throw away, but it makes them think they have an out).
4. You and the other employee escort them to their personal area and make sure they don't take any proprietary info.
5. Walk them to their car and send them on their way. Make sure everyone knows they are no longer allowed on the premises.
If it's construction or something like that..............just hand the fucker his last paycheck and tell him not to let the door hit him in the ass on the way out. It's the office fuckers that make a big crying scene.
Be respectful and have a check ready to hand to her.
no layoff, just be ready to explain it to the EDD.
God you're a fucking tool.
