Haven't been in nearly 20 years, but had lots of fun there as a kid, up until my early 20's. Great spot for a day trip, and to get some wheelie practice in on the lakebed...lord knows I could use it! Anyone have a ride report of what it's like these days? How are the weekends? Completely overrun by UTV's? Cost to enter? Current registration and sparky required?
Thank you!

Here's a random El Mirage photo found on the interweb, just to add some flavor to this post!
Funny, rode there as a kid in the 70s, cali sure has changed, left in the 90s. The State government shutting down the Barstow to Vegas ride over evvormental concerns, lol but development is okay. Yeah I miss the 70s cali, Saddle Back, Apple Valley, corona raceway, trabuco canyon etc....good memories.
Wow, you're really taking this wheelie thing serious 😀
Haven't ridden there in years, but that's a great spot to practice wheelies for sure. Good spot for the fam too. 👍
That pic you have looks more like El Mirage Az. El Mirage Lake bed is the spot.
I dunno Slap. I seem to recall it looking a lot like Zeke's pic, camping 100 yards or so off the "lake".
Yeah, you're probably right. Both times I went there we stayed on the dry lake the whole time 🤷♂️

Used to ride there as a kid on my PW. Throttle stuck wide open out there once lol
That’s where I learned how to ride a dirtbike. Love that place.
I learned to ride there in the early 90s. There was a shell station nearby that had giant insulated mugs we'd get soda refills. My uncles would go, every one had the most piece of shit bikes. 3 wheelers. Family friend knocked himself out trying to wheelie his ATC. Pissed his pants. Woke up and farted, got back on. It's burned into my memory. I was on a 70s z50 that we got near Redondo beach. My dad was looking at the cycle trader while I was boogie boarding. $250. Dog took off after a bike and was tied to the tool box, drug it across the lake bed with a trail of tools. It was heaven going there.
There’s a screenplay in there…somewhere…🤣
Went there one time in the early 2000's. My dad was teaching my sister to ride her TTR125 when some BLM ranger went flying across the lake bed doing 65+ mph and came within 2 feet of hitting my sister. BLM lady never stopped or even came back. My sister has not been back on a bike and we have never been back to El Mirage since that day.
I took my kids a couple of years ago. Not too crowded, $15 daily fee
Some of the good trails off to the right of the entrance have been fenced off
Go to the backside past Adelanto over by the Alessi’s old place. You can ride into el mirage without paying or having them check for green stickers/spark arrestors
Cohen Brothers on production!
….and Billy Bob Thornton needs to be a main character.
😂
It's still the same, I went there a few months ago, $15.00 to get in but at around 2:00 that's when the winds kick up and if you're not ready look out. The wind tore up my canopy so bad I had to leave it there.
Just noticed on youtube that SCTA is still conducting speed runs out there. Lake bed must be in pretty good condition...
Depends on the year, depending on how much it rains and if some dickhead does donuts out there. Here’s a pic at the end of the course after day1 of a couple years back in November
Awesome post
It was like I was there
Pro125 you got some competition !
I would ride there a lot as a kid.
Here's a picture of me... I think I'm 14 or15 years old on a 1982 YZ 250.
We had 120 acres in the 1980s in El Mirage and Adelanto area. Loved going out there and riding, 4 wheeling and shooting our guns. You could run into dozens of rattle snakes in one night out there. Mojave Green Rattle Snakes.
Back in those days I was racing Saddleback CMC and CRC, OCIR, Corona, Glen Helen, Ascott. Also rode desert out at Ocotillo Wells… Miss those days.
Pit Row
That scarf is awsome!
14 or 15 and riding a 250? With an El Camino hauler? Awesome....
So do you pollute and leave your trash at every riding spot you go to? 🙄Would it have been that difficult to take it home with you and discard it properly?
Thanks! LOL! My dad insisted we get there early in the morning and it was always freakin' cold. I had Long John's underneath!
Yep! Good eye! That was my dad's 1967 El Camino and that was his YZ 250. I had a YZ 80 but I was starting to grow (late bloomer) and probably needed a 125 at that point.
