did your shoelaces ever get caught in the flywheel running it sans a ign cover??haha same here my first bike was a green 70 ct70 w/clutch.$375 otd w/ easy rider helmet.i rode it till it would move, all the rollers feel off the chain and i would tighten down and keep going . i about cried when i seen the yamaha jt 60s that looked like real bikes, they came out about 6mo after buying it.wish i had it now tho.

I love these little bikes ! My first ride was a 1981 Z50, and I was a very happy 6 year old burning around in the back pasture for hours on end. I recently found a hell of a deal on a pair of them. one a 79 and the other a 81. they are getting very rare and pricy around here, so I'm glad I found a couple of nice ones to restore next winter. the 79 is mint so it will be all original . the 81 is pretty rough so it will get the Chinese engine and all the hop up parts. its cool to read about the great times we all had on these little bikes !

Brandon, She is super cool and I didn't realize it but I think she was onto something. Her idea was to restore a few of them into super funky town cruisers with pink paint and leopard seat covers. I should have kept them. How was your Gifford ride?
We rode up on Hood and it was absolutely incredible. You need to get yourself a plated bike and come join us.
We did 140 miles total and less than 20 of it pavement ( we rode into Wamic for gas, burgers and to watch lawnmower racing... http://www.sportsmansgrasscarracing.com/).

We've got some killer loops sorted out up there and have barely scratched the surface. 1700 square miles is gonna keep us busy for a while!

I'm not sure how many hipsters are down in Bend, but the Portland area ones would gobble up pink & leopard CT70's. There's a whole ruckus/scooter revolution going on around here and (somehow) these idiots have money. Even though nobody works. In all honesty, they'd probably sell like hotcakes around here.

Had a classmate of mine get one of those mini-enduros. Pure sex! Looked like a "real" bike but had that different engine; a two stroke! I think he had a hard time keeping it running though; probably wearing the piston/rings out and losing compression.

I just missed a CRF450x I have been looking and I have a scheme to street legal one. Living in Bend I need to get one set up. I ended up with a 2012 Ski Doo Summit and I've had it on Craigslist trying to trade it for a dual sport. This snow year has hindered anyone wanting one of those things....I will definitely hit you up for the Hood ride. I love Mt Hood area! It's one of my favorite places on the planet....

Grew up in valley forge also, used to ride my 73 XR75 on a track right next to valley forge national park, not far from the covered bridge. Had a few friends who used to ride ct70s.

Man, I would have to say "yes" to that!

When I bought that yellow one, it had a 125cc in it, and about 2,000 on the odo. I crested the 10,000 mark last fall, and it was starting to jump in and out of gear. So I went onto Craigslist, and found a clean SSR pitbike that somebody was selling, and snagged the 110 motor out of it, and put that in.

That is when I decided to try and build one, and I built up that blue one.

I have never split the cases on anything, so maybe I could have fixed whatever it was making it jump out of gear, but I also figured that 10k was a decent amount of miles for a $250 engine.

Ha, nice! Was it down off of Yellow Springs rd? I know the park has grown over the years and some private land has been swallowed up since back in the day. Do you ride any of the D6 series? Sleepy,Pagoda,Hurricane,Etown etc...?

Yes it was on park property used sneak down through the woods from valley forge mountain ride some laps then sneak back through the woods before the park rangers would show up. Good times. Also use to ride a track off of yellow springs rd. built by my friend Ken Fryburger. Used to race some motocross but mostly rode d6 hare scramble and ecea endures. fun times.

The original link doesn’t work anymore but here is half of the lot and an old pic of me on my original. With my grandmother about to yell at me about tearing up the lawn.

Couple things I see here: first the period correct Colorado Hikers, and of course the removed ignition cover because dad had to adjust the points. It’s only missing the classic cracked taillight lens, but I’m sure that was acquired later.

Started it all 30 years ago! My Dad wanted us to ride because he enjoyed it as a kid. Little did he know what he had started…lol
