“Real” media?
So bummed for him. He’s been looking great on track this past year, especially towards ends of outdoors, and absolutely killed it at nations. Was so excited to see how he’d do next year.
The important thing now is he takes all the time he needs to get mentally, and physically healthy. It’s not easy coming back from a crash that causes such a big injury, and I hope he doesn’t try, and rush it. His long term health is more important then being back by some specific date.

So he crashed on Tuesday...had surgery on Wednesday...Thursday is Thanksgiving...Honda releases P.R. on Friday morning. Sounds reasonable to me. Now Vital, Racerx, MXA, Swap etc will report on it.
If we want to bitch about something, how about Deegan breaking his wrist before the 24 season and keeping it secret. How about Webb having a big crash before last season and keeping it secret. How about RV saying he will race MX in 13 at Vegas SX. I think we should be more pissed at the teams or lack o transparency.
To go back earlier in the year, which social media type "Heard" that Jett was going to be a father? I'm still waiting for my Jettson brand cigar on that one.
Would the message be different?
Breaking news (to a really minor dirtbike community)
”Hello, probably Jo is hurt! Eventual details coming up”!
Only Pulp, Weege, Lewis or ML may report this when the actual facts are in?
There is a word for this but i wont take it in my mouth in this forum…

This right here x1000!
You have obviously never followed anything sports related or literally anything else in the world. It happens all the time, damn near weekly.
Its just people like to shit on people they dont like or perceived to be bad for whatever their interests are. Again I see it in all forms of media. Politics, sports, Hollywood, name any industry and we can find something like this.
100%. Everyone including Lewis, matthes, Weege etc say something to the effect of ‘I’m hearing’ when they want to report something that isn’t official yet. It’s how we find out things like chase going to Kawi, Eli going to ktm, etc etc before anything is officially announced.
I don’t know squat about slowie or whatever but every media guy drops hints.
Kypho only stabilizes the bone to eliminate pain, it's not a big surgery like a displaced vb.
My mother had one on L2 and it failed. .
She has now had L1-L5 fuzed. . .
And she is crazy as hell on pain meds. .
Not a joy to be around, almost psychotic. . .
And don't ask how many pills she has taken, they gave her a 3 months supply and she ate them like tic-tacs. . . .no bueno 😕
Soggy, that don't sound to good, displaced vertebrae!!
If I read that on my chart, I'd be looking for a new hobby.
I have broken c4 and t7. . .in Mexico no less.
That was fun. . .not.
I agree it sounds sketchy. Image results for that fracture description don’t look good either. Jo got very lucky I believe.
Soggy, do you really think so that all our media guys drop "hints"? I know that like Eli/Chase were "hinted" a lot, but I can think of many issues where our moto-media stays silent despite more and more "rumors" only to "confirm" once the OEM allows them to do so. Just this week we had the whole Muc-Off thing which everyone laughed at Cooksey about only for ML to confirm it. No hints there, and that means the media is sitting on a story and not reporting it. That's the very opposite of responsible journalism.
None of those guys had rumors of a big injury or what could’ve been a life altering injury like Jo and I believe that’s the difference. Nobody knew anything about Ernesto Fonseca or Jessy Nelson’s injury until like a week later and it ended up being horrible news so I think that’s why people start thinking the worse.
Just shut up
And the Injury Grind pre-season begins...we should start a betting pool on how many top riders will not be on the line come A1.
I wonder if those same people take offense with the mainstream media about politics and current events? They do exactly the same thing with one exception....they present their BS as facts, where Slowie stated "I heard" and "unconfirmed". As for posting for views and interaction...that's what social media is based on? Why do you think that clown Whistlin' Diesel keeps posting about his tax case about the Ferrari that burned? It's not because he's gonna win....it's because the interaction and clicks earn money for him.
Have you actually watched the news for the last 8 years or so? Most of the crap the so called legitimate media said was lies over that time turned out to be true.....
The discussion comes up every year when a big name is out due to injury before the season even begins. Why are they training so much in the off season? The comparison with MotoGP (not mxgp) comes up a lot. The riders don't forget how to ride over the offseason and mid week between races, if anything having a break between seasons/races is beneficial to the rider. Within 2 laps of first practice at the race they should be up to speed again.
Test the new bike for a week, find some settings and clock off for the year. Go play some golf or spend time with family and friends. Grinding 5 days a week when the first race is months away is a huge risk.
I hope Jo recovers well and comes back strong, he's someone I really want to see succeed.
Is this a stat for another neck injury of a rider without a neck brace?
Time and time again we see a neck injury and no neck brace. Stats don’t lie.
Pit Row
Corelation does not imply causation. It's simply impossible to know if a neck brace would have made any difference at all.
Thousands of crashes without neck braces with no neck/back injuries, but of course this happens and someone has to bring it up.
I thought it was a fine report from Slowie. He was right and I know he’s a good source. We were just worried about our moto-brother Jo and hoping it wasn’t true
Talking about "transparacy" in this sport. I am sure that many are aware of this but...I know this has happened in the past...sometimes a rider gets injured and they don't even tell the team they are hurt until they have to/forced to.
Well, a crash where a neck injury occurs is naturally when neck protection would be discussed, it’s not like people would rush to discuss neck protection after a crash resulting in a broken leg. I still find it odd that neck protection seems to have dropped completely in the pro ranks.
I can't disagree with you there, it just bugs me when the neck brace worshipper guys just KNOW it would have saved the day.
The whole trend of neck braces and then the disappearance is a bit odd, I'll give you that.
Just wish there was better evidence for/against neck braces. With the info out there you can make a case either way. When they first came out I wore them and didn’t notice but went away from conflicting reports came out about there use. If there was more concrete evidence of there benefit I would for sure get a new one.
I’m talking about the language you (and others are choosing to use) which casts others in a negative light.
Ends up, this slowie guy, who doesn’t claim to be a journalist heard that Jo was hurt. Not surprising since anyone inside Jo’s camp knew it and word spreads fast. In the end, he was right about what he heard.
Burst fracture is usually way worse. That's when the only thing left of the bony vertebra surrounding your cord are just pieces and splinters. Requires what's commonly known as a "360 degree" fusion where they replace the vertebra with a metal cage and they essentially grind up the boney pieces into a paste and pack it back in around the cage where it grows together again and they add what looks amazingly like a Suzuki full-floater dog bone on each side attached to the adjacent vertebra to stabilize it all.

It's a relatively new and major, major surgery. Mine was 12 hours. I think Doug Henry may have been one of the first recipients of this after his Budd's crash. I also think Trey Canard may have undergone the same thing.
This looks scary invasive, are there any side effects like pain, numbness? Will Beaumer be back at 100%? Riding a SX track with all that hardware on your spine has to put second thoughts on your mind.
Have you ever met the guy in person? I have and he seems to be a decent guy trying to do his thing and get by in this crazy world.
What are you talking about? That I’m hoping Shimoda recovers fully and completely? Doesn’t everyone want that?
What really sucks about this injury and makes it such a gut punch, is the timing. It's Austin Forkner-esque -- right as Jo Shimoda finally seemed to turn a corner, win his first major championship, and silence the doubts of his ability to handle pressure, he gets hit with the worst injury of his career. Absolutely heartbreaking.
I hope that this won't take too much of a mental toll on him, so that he can come back swinging in full force come outdoors in 2026.
