You are absolutely correct.  I've mentioned this in the past about Malcolm as it's a huge oversight of a safety precaution that should be in place for this sport.  We see how easily and often someone's boot or arm gets caught in someone else's rear wheel.  Now just imagine if Malcolm's hair got caught in a rear wheel or sprocket, he would be immediately scalped and it would be really ugly.   The haters here wouldn't think it was such a bad idea to mention it here after all, or to not allow long hair or ponytails like they do in other forms of racing for this exact reason.  There was a poor little girl who got her hair caught in the rear axle at the kart track on a practice day when there were no officials, and she got hauled away in an ambulance in a bloody mess.

This is nothing against Malcolm, and allowing his hair to be out like that while racing is only a disservice to him in the case that something bad ever happens.  It's a disaster waiting to happen, and I hope we never see it in our sport.

I wonder why no one in moto media has asked Malcolm about his hair?

Dudes don't usually ask other dudes about their hair.

My bad, I thought those were dudes asking about Malcolm’s hair. Kidding! Actually, men have no problem talking to each other about hair and hairstyles, although the earlier posts are not about looks and are raising valid concerns about Stewart’s safety.

I was wondering why no moto reporter has ever asked Malcolm if he was worried about what might happen should his long hair get tangled up in a wheel or sprocket. One would think that he has at least thought about it, even though he apparently has not had any problems racing (and crashing) with his hair like that.

You weren’t in the Seattle Grunge scene in the 90s

One thing you should consider is whether Malcolm is using hair extensions. If that’s the case, they would be somewhat safer than natural hair, as they would more likely fail and break at the extension attachment point, rather than at the scalp. Whether Malcolm is counting on this can only be answered by him.

I've heard crazier things but I really doubt they're hair extensions

Weird talk but whatever, I remember hearing in an interview after a SX this year with a brutal sand section that it was a nightmare to get the sand out of his hair..

The dreads out the back of the helmet is kinda his trademark

Nice short edit from the weekend. That quad was nice! And the other line through the other rhythm section was cool too.

Malcolm could win A1, or finish 10th, and neither would surprise me.

I think it's narrower than that, and shifted a ton from same time last year for 2025 A1.

Last year before he won Tampa, nobody would have picked Malcom, and I would think most would say 5-10 before the 2025 season started.

Now, with winning not surprising you (or me) for 2026 A1, I think the bottom end is perhaps 6th with no crashes or incidents. It would surprise me if he did worse than 6th given his Paris performance.

I disagree completely. I think most American moto journalists just don’t think about it. Clearly, Malcolm’s not worried about it, and the AMA hasn’t stepped in either.

Exactly. It would be an extremely rare incident where his hair would be an issue. Pretty sure he’s aware of it. NFL players have it and can be tackled by pulling on it.

Sorry if it's been discussed, I haven't seen anything about the gesture Malcolm made to Coop over the double. What was that about?

You mean when his tear-off stuck to his hand and he tried to shake it off?

Oh maybe that was it, I thought it was something towards coop but couldn't think of any reason for it.

I wonder if Mookiey’s riding style would look smoother if he cut that hair 🤔

You have to wonder if Christian Craig looks back at that Husqvarna opportunity with regret? It’s a sweet bike.

Yeah, the Honda’s tough, but that husky man - steel frame, factory bike - I’m still scratching my head how he didn’t get along with it.
