The hypothetical requires time travel so of course it's a crazy statement but if you don't think the sport and athletes/racers have progressed since the 80's, then you're just delusional. Modern bikes have upped the speed and the decades that have passed since then have only improved rider skill and technique. This isn't discrediting the legends at all, today's racer's wouldn't be where they are now without them.

I think people do have a point about Carson's fitness over a 45 minute moto compared to them but as an alien getting dropped back in time, I have no doubt his pace and riding technique would put him above anyone 40 years ago. You'd have to think the sport plateaued back then if you don't think he'd be quicker.

Or take the reverse, since were talking about a persons skill and performence.

Take Hannah, reverse his aging, give him the same elvolution of training and bike improvements  and see what happens.

Of course all sports have evolved over the last 50 years, take a NFL bad team from now, send them back in time to the 1960s, and they would dominate rhe best team. Size, speed, stratagey etc....

Whats a better bike 2026 YZ450 or a 1980 CR500, do we really have to ask such a obvious question?

Drop David Bailey into 2025 on a  works CRF450 and watch him battle Jett.  Bailey was so far ahead of his time that he almost looked modern to this day in 1986.

So you're saying there's no evolution in 40 years? And it could be said that I've watched either live or mostly online every race david bailey has ever been in .one of my top legends. I know him personally. But come on man, what you said is ridiculous. Same goes for RJ, Wardy, Glover, Ronnie… all those guys. That was then this is now. Jump on YouTube my friend, those guys were still skying every jump going straight up in the air. Ever heard of scrubbing? Those guys are five seconds a lot slower than even the Bubba era on a Supercross track. Remember what McGrath and his new, modern style did to the old boys?

No. It's not that at all. The idea that Carson  has more  bike skill than Jeff Ward, Bob Hanna, Steve Wise ir any of those guys is silly. Those old guys would race 125s and 500s on the same day at the highest level. Then they'd go race superbikers the next week. Yes, the sport has evolved and you have many more riders at a high level. But a back of the pack privateer is not keeping up with the best factory guys back then.

Carson is a 1 lap wonder.  He doesn’t have, nor is he interested in developing, the fitness required to be a top pro.

He’s also remarkably versatile and can ride just about anything.  His made for YouTube videos show that pretty well.  He’s well adapted to throwing his leg over a bike, vintage or otherwise, and quickly taking it to max speed.  The guys he pairs up with in these videos are in tune with their 4 stroke race bikes…

Going fast and stylish for a few laps on pretty much groomed tracks is a far cry from doing it for 40/45 minutes on torn up beat up rough shit tracks back then! I do love watching his videos on the old bikes, he has a lot of skills.

He did well enough at Erzberg that I wouldn’t be too concerned about 45 minutes on a hammered moto track. CB is an animal.
