Hey guys -

Torn between the 2 helmets.  I’ve been running a ATR 3 last year and some change.  I do like it but tried on a Bell. Seems like it is higher quality and fits my head better.  Then when it comes to safety, both seem to have the similar technologies but still think 6d has the edge.  I am leaning towards the Bell due to better fit and higher quality with good safety but the 6d seems like it has better safety and it’s lighter.

Thoughts?

Ive not owned a 10, but tried one on when they came out. Having said that, I love my atr3. With input from the guys at 6d, he suggested a different cheek pad for size and he installed them before he sent it out. Nailed it. In 30 years of moto ive not had a more comfortable helmet.

I always lean to whatever fits me best assuming quality and safety tech are fairly equal

Don’t forget that 6D will rebuild the inner helmet for ~$160. I’ve personally done it 3 times which helps with the cost

Moto 10 Spherical does not have ECE 22.06 with the low-speed test. Moto 10 MIPS does. 6d the last couple years does.

For what it’s worth…

I was a long time Bell Helmet owner. Once the Moto 10 came out, I had to switch brands. The Moto 9 and 9-FLEX both fit my head great. The 10 would give me a headache within minutes of riding. The forehead area was too tight and I just couldn’t gel with it.
Ended up in a 6D ATR2 and that was the best decision ever. The helmet shape just fits my head shape, the ATR3 is even better, especially with the lighter weight.

With that said, you really do have to choose the helmet that fits your head best ! Both helmets are top notch and you can’t go wrong with either.
I’d say the 6D is actually a better built helmet, but that’s a personal choice.

I think the Bell helmets for the American market are built like tanks, or am i wrong? Like super heavy helmets for what you pay, so i would go with the ATR-3 if it fits you good.

Edit: I checked. 1600g +-50g for a size M. That is just not up to standard in my opinon. The ATR in size M and L is 1350g.

We tried the moto 10 not long after its release. My son and I had been in 6D for years. I had a used moto 9 I loved so the 10 would be better we thought. Loved the look, but they were noticeably heavy and parts didn’t stay on, I believe the trim pieces if I remember correctly? Went back to the ATR2 and now in 3’s. We love em and probably won’t stray from 6D again.

I wore a Moto-10 for a couple years. It’s a great looking helmet (new), fit my head well, and very easy to clean. However, I had a few issues with it:

1. It was heavy; 2. It wasn’t ECE certified; 3. The EPP bumpers on the bottom of the helmet get beat up and make a $900 helmet look bad

I’m in a SM-10 now and I think that it’s a much better helmet overall. The ATR3 was my second choice.

So I don't have any comparison to wearing a BELL recently, but I did switch from a TLD to a ATR-2 around 6 or 7 years ago and haven't looked back. And now their ATR-3 is even better, I've honestly never had a more comfortable helmet. I like having the ability to fine tune the padding, especially their "cool" liner and cheek pad options which in SoCal are pretty damn good year round, maybe only a handful of days that they vent too much.

The TLD SE5 is also a great option, it is the best helmet ive had and the pads, plastic and trim have all held up really well.

This post just made me mad. Ive been sweating out here in the southwest desert, I never knew that they had super cooling pads. 😭

Honestly you just need to try them both on the same day if possible and see what fits you better they are both top of the line and will definitely protect you so you can't go wrong

Moto 10 spherical is the best breathing, coolest helmet I’ve ever worn.

I really notice it on a hot day because I’m not dying to get it off after a moto.

Compared to my SM8, I think it’s way better. I’m a moto 10 guy for the time being.

No doubt, for me THIS is a huge selling point for 6D.

Imagine the heavy bummage when you crash hard in your $1000 helmet and have to throw it away rather than having the ability to have it rebuilt.

I have the same feeling about the Spherical. No 22.06, useless Snell and weighs a ton.

The Moto10 MIPS seems like the better option in spite of being placed "lower" in the lineup - for my money, even the MX-10 is more appealing then the spherical, with the weight and overall size reduced dramatically vs the MX-9 and 22.06..

My Bell Moto 10 spherical is amazing. Tried the 6D, and it just did not fit my head well. I bought the European version of the Moto 10 and it is ECE 22.06 certified, not Snell.

I would be interested to hear if anyone runs an ATR-3 that didn't fit in an ATR-2.  I have been considering trying out an ATR-3 when FXR drops the new color ways, but the ATR-2 I tried years back just didn't fit my head.  I tried every combination of liners and cheekpad sizes and it was either too tight or too loose. Specifically if I remember right it squeezed the sides and front of my head.  So I'm curious if it overall fits similarly to the ATR-2 or if it's quite a bit different?

I have tried just about every high end helmet at this point, and have stuck with Shoei because it seems to be the only helmet that comfortably fits my head.  I do think the tech is a bit outdated though.

looking to make the switch from SM8/SM10 to ATR3 hoping the sizes are similar. im a medium in alpinestar

I currently have Moto 10s but before previously had a lot of moto 9s, moto 9 flex’s, and ATR1s. As someone who’s had 11 concussions (that I know of) I will be going back to 6Ds to try out the ATR3. My ATR1s did a better job at protecting my head compared to the Moto 10.

6D is the only high end helmet I’ve ever tried. All I can say is that they work as advertised. I took a good over the bars flight going about 40 and landed head first into a sandwash . Ended up with a badly bruised head and a nice black eye , but no concussion . Mouth guard area of helmet was cracked , so rebuilding was not an option.. They gave me a descent discount on my upgrade from a atr2 to a 3. With the amount of concessions that I’ve previously had , what that helmet did for me was priceless.

Same here...I crashed on my 3rd ride and was bummed as I thought that the crash was pain plus a new helmet.  It helped with the pain when I found out that it was only going to cost me $160.

Is the sizing the same on both helmets?

I used to wear size m moto 9

Now i wear a size L tld se5

Which size 6D should i get?

11/5/2025 7:38am

I just bought a 6D ATR3 for my son. So far I think it is probably the best helmet made in terms of quality and tech. I will be swapping my moto 9 for one asap. I was not a fan of the moto 10 model. It didnt fit my head.

Customer service has also been top notch for 6D. They will be getting my money from here on out.

The general sizing of the 6D helmets is in line with Bell helmets.  The one thing I did and I know of a number of other 6D owners that have done the same is to swap out the cheek pads to give a better fit...usually going with thicker cheek pads to give a snugger fit.  The cheek pads are about $35.
