People can't openly speak against Maduro without fear of retribution, yet 70% voted against him in the last election.

He just decided to not step down.

Knowing that, I'd say that it's safe to assume that a major majority would like to see him gone.

If the majority would like to see him gone, they need to do something about it, not a foreign power.

What do you suggest?

A strongly worded letter?

No, the citizens of Venezuela. What should they do?

You could give it a whirl, but it seems like a waste of energy.

You mean regime change and steal their oil?

So does Canada and the Middle East.
Alaska and the Gulf as well.
The US has been stealing Syrian heavy crude for years.

I’d actually like to see some proof that the US has been stealing heavy crude from Syria for years. Can you provide any to back your claim.

Trump’s commitment of a carrier battle group puts him in a tough spot. A ground assault is unlikely, and aerial bombardments would have almost zero support domestically. However, pulling anchor w/o impacting the situation emboldens Maduro and possibly dampens resistance. If regime change is the end-game, it’s challenging to see how that happens w/o very aggressive actions.

What kind of proof do you need?
What would your definition of proof be in this situation?
Like a US official admitting to CNN they take oil from northern Syrian oil fields and move it to Iraq or redistribute it to fund the Kurds or CIA?
Cuz I don’t think I’ll be able to provide that kind of “proof”.

They have the same options as other people in situations they don't like...

1. Do nothing

2. Try and change the situation

3. Leave

I'm not going to tell Venezuelans what they should do, they need to decide for themselves.

Well, things certainly haven't cooled off any. Not good for peace prize chances  - starting a war, that is. Might even cancel out those 8 he ended.

If you think this is about drug sales, well I don’t think anybody is that oblivious. Maybe some people are.

What should they do to try and change the situation? Vote differently? We saw how well that worked. So what do you propose? This is a serious question by the way, I’d like to hear some ideas rather than a simple “try and change the situation.”

Yay, another unprovoked war, this is definitely what I voted for. . .

So we’ve essentially been bombing boats in international waters while providing zero proof that they are in fact “narco terrorists” (there’s actually quite a bit of evidence to suggest they have no idea who they’re bombing, with one survivor being a Colombian citizen).  Now, we’re going to move an aircraft carrier in to try to scare Maduro into hiding (which won’t work), and then what?  Just start bombing a country completely unprovoked and send our military in to die for whatever stupid crusader cause the Trump administration sees fit?  We’re almost 30 trillion in debt and we feel the need to go start a regime change war in a country that poses zero threat to anyone?  Absolutely idiotic, these guys lose more and more support every day at this point.

I doubt Venezuelans are reading vitalmx for your guidance. So I’m asking you, simply for sake of conversation, what would you propose they do?

Trump could have positioned Venezuelan activities as an altruistic venture supporting a freely elected candidate against a malicious dictator.  A carrier battle group sends a very different message which reeks of nation-building.  The situation calls for tactical maneuvers, not strategic muscle.

Blasting small boats out of the water has almost zero impact on the drug trade and is simply a warning to Maduro that things could get worse. Trump has backed himself into a corner, and regime change with minimal casualties is the only successful outcome for his administration. Anything else and Trump is labeled a “loser”, a moniker he has fought his entire life.

A majority of prisoners want out of prison. What exactly do you think they CAN do to get out of prison?

I'm pretty sure that's just 1 prong of a multiprong tool, and it is having an effect. Combine that with the greatly reduced human mules used by the cartes that carry these illicit drugs across the border. And arresting of gang leaders inside our borders. It absolutely helps. Being faster in 1 corner will not win you the race, but start to put the rest of the track together....
