This is my boy Reggie. Got him as a pup 11 years ago. Unfortunately just found out he has cancer on Monday while going in for a dental surgery. Been a shitty couple days. 😢

Very sorry to hear.

If my dog had a wallet he would empty it for me, I would do the same for him

Ain’t that the darn truth! 👍

These furry Angel’s would trade their life for us, and it’s the least we can do for them! When this 20 pounds of love-able silliness blew out BOTH of her ACL’s (didn’t even know that was possible!) our vet said it would require a costly surgery OR she would be done for! Told the wife, there is NO question on this one, we will pay for the surgery even if I have to sell one of my scooters! I can always track down another YZ490, but we can never replace this amazing little soul!
Post surgery I made her a “nest” right in front of the EZ chair & carried her in & out while she re-habbed…was the best time & $$$ we ever spent! Two years later she is going strong & living her best life at 11.5 years old!

❣️ 😎 👍❗️

I feel for you Soggy! And I am SO sorry to hear of your crummy diagnosis.
We endured the same reality when we learned the awful news about our boy Cooper here. Got him at 8 weeks old, and just before his 10th birthday, got the grim prognosis that he had adenocarcinoma & NOTHING the Vet could do. We kept him as comfortable as we could and made the most of what little time he had left and are still heartsick over his loss nearly two years later!
While he was just a silly little ankle-bitter Lhasa-Apso, he was the most hilariously comical ball of energy & fun and we miss him every day!

Sorry you are enduring this awful ordeal!
sending our best vibes/prayer your way…

Got some encouraging news about Reggie yesterday. He’s getting a few more tests done and then will go on a chemo treatment that has a pretty high response rate. And can have a significant impact on long term outlook. Fingers crossed the test results come as expected and the treatment they want to use will be effective.

I just took this pic on my phone, a few minutes ago

He / She is a Brushtail Possum. I've a resident tribe of them in the trees around my house, and this one likes to hang out near my front door, and eat the flower buds off the tree it's in. He / She won't come down, that  would be beneath He  / She's dignity, but waits for me to come out, pick up the buds that have fallen on the pathway, and hand them to him / her. Here it's getting impatient, and was waving It's Hand at me, with a "give them to me, you silly bloody Bi Ped" expression : 20250828 211641.jpg?VersionId=WfeMTB5TLqODf.2Na1E aiE m

How fricken cool is that when the local wild life accept you as friend!

Sweet.

Nice to have you back Joey and thanks for sharing what you have been going through with your dog.

Sharing is learning for the rest of of us.

It's cooling down nicely so it's time to get out and do some deser walks. When I found Willow she had a scuffed up right rear foot. I assume she jumped/ got thrown from a moving vehicle.  Anyways,  she has always had the slightest stiff gate to her walk and recently has started to drag her right foot slightly due to stiffness.  So now we have her on glucosamine and I give her physical therapy before,  during and after our walks to try and loosen up her leg. She doesn't react like she is in any pain,  just stiffness.

From yesterday.  We walked to a sand dune overlooking the Columbia river.

We're going to bring him home in two weeks.

Going to always have one of us with him, day and night, to see how it goes.

Left rear leg is still very, very weak, and may never be normal again.

Going to be spending 4-5 days camping with friends up on top of linville gorge.

Hoping that him getting backout outdoors, and keeping active will be a good thing.

We can always take him back to the rehab facility. ("He'll always have a home here with us")

But he's been there since the end of June.

And in our eyes they've performed nothing short of a miracle.

But at close to $2,000 a week...

(Worth every nickel though)

He's such a happy dog.

And loves Jenn so much.

Guess I'll be losing my spot on the couch again.

On the eastern side of the linville gorge, due south of our cabin, there's a dedicated section of rock outcroppings, where these falcons nest, and breed.

During that season, hikers are advised to stay away from their nesting areas.

We see them often, flying in pairs, soaring and diving.

If you're lucky, you'll see them tuck their wings in and stoop.

Incredible birds.

There's also the area in the eastern edge of the Smokies, between Mt. Sterling and Mt. Cammerer where you can see them.

It doesn't happen often but to witness a kill is quite the experience. The falcon seemingly comes out of nowhere and THWACK!....one less dove in the world.

We went to a raptor presentation recently and the woman giving it said they cannot move their eyeballs but can rotate their head 270 degrees.

On a side note I once witnessed a Red tailed hawk swoop down and scoop up one of my neighbors chickens and fly off to another neighbors tree to have dinner. It was a WHOAH! moment. I felt like going over to my neighbor and telling him to never accuse my dog of stealing his chickens as he best look to the tree tops for the real killer. 😀

I had a similar experience with a Red-Tailed Hawk.... We have quite a few in our area, along with all kinds of other wildlife (Eagles, Owls, deer, turkeys, wild boar, black bears, etc..). I was out on the lawn tractor one Saturday morning and saw a couple of rabbits in the yard. Out of the corner of my eye I see this flash and the next thing I know one of the Red Tailed Hawks had a rabbit in it's talons and off into the woods he went. It happened so fast it took me a minute to realize what had just taken place.

Nature is amazing.

It's one of my big beliefs that if we all got out into it attitudes would change for the better.

This is my wide open, face grabbing Kelpie mix header. He is a brutal header. Penned if calves are around.

But he loves his mama post stroke.

Now i'm catching up with this thread after a while. 2025 is rollercoaster for me. In the early april we had to put to sleep Max, our 16 yo mix of staffordshire terrier (dad) with labrador-newfoundland (mom, was also mix). We spent the last 8 years tackling arthritis in hind legs but he (being named after Max Nagl ) he put the work in it and tough it out as long as he could.

1000017913

Ngl the months afterwards sucked ass big time. I (as the rest of the family) tried to distract myself as much as possible, ending up even with some slight home and garden improvements... for the last month we have adopted the 3 year old adorable doofus below called Eddie.

1000021592

He lived his whole life until now in a flat so it's kinda funny to watch him getting used to a house with garden. He used to bark rarely, now he is getting the hang of things. Boy, he got energy for days, even being a tad overweight is able to lift me from my squat during tug of war... and i'm not Musquin-build, i'm more of a De Dycker-build...😯

Hope you folks and your pups are doing splendidly. We do not deserve pups.
