Based on a few comments here it appears some here are assuming everyone is out of shape like they are???

Come on guys, get it together already if you are out of shape, it's not that hard.  It's more mental discipline than physical work.  90% diet and 10% exercise will do it.  And so what happens what you have a great diet and you exercise regularly?  You are in near perfect shape for your age.

I help a lot of people lose weight and get in shape and it can be done with just diet alone.  When one of my best friends was not making progress on my program he claimed he had a thyroid issue and I believed him, until his wife told me he secretly eats ice cream every night.  She said ice cream is his kryptonite and he can't live without it.  Ice cream, WTF!?!??  I eat ice cream maybe twice a year during the holidays and I still feel guilty as hell scooping in some vanilla on pecan pie.  Same with soda, chips, pie, energy drinks, heavy carbs, pizza, French fries, bagels, or any other junk.  If you think it's okay to put any of this in your system more than a couple times a year you are poisoning yourself and it's no wonder you are out of shape.

I'm in my 50's and in better shape than most in their 30's.  Other than having amazing discipline to keep my hands off all the junk that's served in front of me around friends/family/parties, I exercise regularly and that's all it takes.  If I get on a hard training program, it takes it to the next level, but that's not always required to be in really good shape.  I would love to drink soda and eat shit like most of America every day, but then I would look and feel like them too.

Haha, as I've said before, downvotes are always very welcome here as this is what the site promotes.  Likely, they aren't downvoting my post, they are just downvoting me, which is what 90% of the votes are here.  Just ignore them, and embrace them as the hate flows from the bitter crowd.   I tried to get up to 46 downvotes once but it looks like the circle-jerk-buddy-crew could only recruit about 25 participants to join in.  Maybe we'll get there with time.

The real kicker is that they are actually downvoting themselves. They disagree with you, but they won't say anything or have a legitimate point(lazy) while simultaneously knowing they are obese and have poor habits but not willing to change(lazy).  Being in shape or physically fit is a lifestyle.  All these "diets" etc are idiotic.  Yeah it is hard.  but that is kind of the point, it gives mental benefits not only chemically, but belief in self and improvement each day. So when them downvotes come flying in, it is honestly just sub conscious ringing the alarm bell.

You do know National Guards are part time solders, they don't train full time, they have day jobs.

You dont have to "train" to be lean and fit.   You monitor what you put in your piehole and keep physically active.

Its not complicated.

It's not complicated, if you have a physically active job, you don't need to "train", if you have a physically inactive job you do need to "train".

National Guardmen are part time solders, they have day jobs, many of those jobs are not physically active and require long hours, leaving little time to train.

Not everyone is you.

I practice hockey skills x3 a week with some vintage guys. One guy is 82 and the other is X NHL in his 80's  They are bad asses for their age. Surely the NG has some fit and unfit players. But why send in the 4th line?

Not everyone is you.

The individuals in that photo are that size for no other reason than caloric intake and food choice.  Everyone can say no to what they put in their mouth and how much.  Its a choice.

Everyone also has the same 24 hours in a day and decides how they allocate those hours and whether then want to move their body around or not.    No one need "train" to be fit and healthy,  but you have to do more than sit in front of a screen 24/7 or you end up with the metabolism of a Galapagos tortoise.

Excuses never got a damn thing done.    But you are free to lean on them all you want.   With the obesity rate in the USA,  you are in great company.

Haha..... 11 lard-asses think you're a skinny meanie.🤣

The weight/ obesity equation is dead simple: eat less, shit more, and exercise.

Your body is no different than a bank account -- deposit more than you withdraw, it gets fat. Withdraw more than you deposit, it gets skinny.

NO fecken drug on earth can replace that basic chemical process.

I never had a problem with people being fat, I reckoned it's individual choice, if a bad one.... until I sat squeezed between two 400-pound sweathogs in Seat 34E on a Southwest flight from San Diego to Phoenix one day in 1999. My hips faced forward and I had to twist my torso 90 degrees and even then I was squeezed on both sides by the two sweaty blubber-butts. They both wore sleeveless muumuus, and their rubbery arms the size of my thighs were pressed up against my chest and back. Disgusting!

If you don't have the self-respect not to look (and smell)  like Jabba The Hutt, don't expect ME to respect you, you malodorous bush pig!.

Interesting factoid... 2/3 of  Arsetralians are obese or (very) overweight, same as the USA.  "That's not an ice cream cone knoife,, THIS is an ice cream cone knoife".  Hippopotamus Dundee, 2025 🤣

And yet they sill couldn’t run two miles by the looks of things. I don’t care if you are in the reserves. PT is still PT and standards dropped off a cliff with the per usual idiotic dem DEI soldier idea.

Now the same people who voted for the idiots to allow this to happen are the ones laughing and pointing fingers. Pretty much calling the kettle black. You continue to amaze me with pure intellect

You don't need to be in shape to pick up garbage.

You don't need to be in shape to pick up garbage.

National Guard called in to deal with 'crime emergency' in DC are now ...

At least it's a start to them getting back on track of doing something productive and getting in shape.  And it's great they are cleaning up the trash from the soft tards who promote trashing our cities.

When applied, the First Law of Thermodynamics has a 100% success rate in generating fat loss.

You sure got a lot of downvotes for speaking the truth. I don't have nearly the discipline that you do, and in fact I have "cheat" days almost every day, but I counterbalance that with cardio and calisthenic workouts several times a week. You are correct that it only takes a little bit of working out; you don't need to spend hours every day. If I ate as well as you seem to in addition, I'd probably look a lot better.

My biggest problem, like most Americans, is that I'm addicted to sugar. We get refined sugar in so much of our foods these days, it's hard to cut it out. Just reducing the intake helps enormously.

Those guys definitely 'look' out of shape, and they very well could be very out of shape.  Perhaps a couple of them are outliers, though.

This is a friend from college who was fitter than most, but he never really got below about 320 pounds.  He did 15-25 century rides a year depending on the year and was a big ocean kayaker as well.  If you look at his picture he looks fat and overweight, but if you tried to out compete him he would work you into the ground.  He's definitely an outlier, but there are those out there.

I am a bigger guy, but definitely out of shape and could be fitter with better choices!  But my life is pretty good!

Well at least you are making the effort to exercise to offset your bad habits, you have to give yourself credit for that.  I understand the sugar addiction, it's so hard to resist.  Reeses peanut butter cups are my kryptonite but I try to save them for the Holidays which are my cheating days.  An occasional cheating day won't kill you, in fact some say it's good to add some carb confusion.  There are many ways to skin the cat.

I always suggest protein smoothies to cover the sugar craving.  You can make some really good tasting chocolate smoothies with berries that cure the craving, and aren't too bad for you.

If people can get to the 8 week mark of pure discipline it gets much easier, because when you look in the mirror and see the results it becomes motivating to keep things going.  And eventually when you get in really good shape you just don't even want to touch the junk because you've put in all the hard work to get there.  There's not much more fulfilling in life than accomplishing a full blow transformation.

There are things you can do to improve health that are very simple and easy, such as how you breath, chew, etc.  For everyone here, especially the few other health nuts, I highly highly suggest you spending $16 on this audio book.  It will absolutely blow your minds about how important breathing is, and how it's changed with our evolution.  I don't think any of you will be bummed on this book:

Breath, by James Nestor:
https://www.amazon.com/Breath-New-Science-Lost-Art/dp/B082FPZC4H/ref=sr_1_1?crid=35P1UN9KM1J3M&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.tArvyL5kabV84SzI47pd8aQWO9U1uzWk3YpKBbNMZ86Sq7U2xTtPv9C-BRDLc75vVpheOCuND34lVaAKpX7Chhy02rKSaA3YCKC6AJ90yPjB9qkwm4C309BLMCO5cRqKlIoW1IXZzSYXhN8kZ7n81pSM9LJ0rcSjyfYeocyGZBa3C45wOBA9s7-FwW2cZqVc6Xyo3dwwER8SRo76Tm5xX2FYOBp4oyJkoqAjIuKEeWc.BIQtbzvcesxZ26jdc28gubVvt1aKV2sBiY2ZMApYOpY&dib_tag=se&keywords=breath+audio+book&qid=1760026125&sprefix=breath+audio+book%2Caps%2C212&sr=8-1

And a pro tip for the haters, it's much easier to exercise while listening to something like this as you get lost in the book/podcast and time flies.  Pretty soon you'e done 30min of cardio and you didn't even realize it.

Also, it's easier than ever to lose weight with semaglutide (aka Ozempic).  If someone needs to use this as a crutch to get there, then do it if  you okay with injecting this into your body, and hopefully it's motivating enough to stay disciplined once you lose your weight.

I'm seeing tons and tons of people all suddenly lose weight for the first time in their lives due to Ozempic, including employees and family members.  It works, but I'm not sure anyone knows the long term affects.

If you really want to start studying up on health check out Rhonda Patrick and she'll teach you what happens at the molecular level.  For example, there are basic things like following a particular order of when you eat things.  I.e. If you are going to eat that sugar xxx, then eat that protein and veggie before, and not vice versa.

I seen a video of Hegseth ripping some poor quality pull ups. I can’t say how far into the set he was when the video was taken, but they were terrible pull ups for sure.

I can't say that I'm a fan of Hegseth, but the pull up vid was pretty much cherry picked if I remember.  He's pretty fit and I think the full cut video was floating around of him doing them pretty well up until that point.  Credit where credit is due, he's very fit for his age.  Unfortunately, he's like the hourly guy at work who absolutely hates management and just knows that he could do a better job of running the company than they could but gets over his head when given the opportunity.

I figured it was likely cherry picked. If you’re 20 reps deep and they start looking like that it’s time to quit. Haha. Definitely don’t keep the video rolling! According to the google less than 1% of the population can do ten strict pull ups.

It was actually 50 pullups and then 100 pushups.  I couldn't do 50 pullups in a month......

However, my oldest son is a pullup monster.  He's big into rock climbing and can bust out 20 fingertip pullups on a door frame without even thinking about it!  But he's skinny as a rail and he probably has one of the lowest body fat percentages you can have and still function.

You’re right it was 50 pull ups. Although with kipping allowed. Big difference between fifty kipping and fifty strict.

Your son is a unit for sure. That rock climbing stuff is crazy. I read a young hot shot climber fell from El Capitan in the last week or two? Rappelled off his rope. Terribly tragic.

I hear ya on low body fat,  my son is a pro body builder (he trains mornings and evenings,  his full time job is with Oracle as a principal pen tester) and competed a week or so ago and overalled 2nd! .  I honestly dont think there is any fat on his body at this moment.   You wanna talk about self discipline to get where he is right now - I cant fathom it.

Correction,  I just Googled and they say 3-4% on those guys.

My son's not a bodybuilder, but he just has no 'extra' weight.  His doctor has actually started to encourage him to eat some 'regular' food now and then to gain some weight.  He's just under 6'2 and about 145 pounds but most of that looks like it's back muscle!  He started rock climbing late in his undergrad work and continued through his PhD and has made a ton of great contacts across the country through it.  He mostly does bouldering rather than high rope climbing or stuff like that, but he'd not allowed to do the rock-climbing attraction at the State Fair anymore, he's cracked every single route up that thing.

Rock climbers can be complete badasses for what they can do.   Physically of course, and Nerves. Of. Steel.    I get skeered on a tall ladder.

Post some pics!!

He'd kill me if I posted any pictures.  I don't actually know if I have any of him climbing.  I know that his wife shared some in the family group chat, but I think that was on my old phone.

Bro!  I hate ladders as well!  What’s going on here?  Are we twins separated at birth?  (BTW, we’re also married to good looking brunettes!)

Simply amazing.  Nothing but respect for what it takes to do that.

Thanks for posting.

To be fair I don't like ladders or working on roofs either.

Climbing is a lot like riding a dirt bike, it's 100% focus on task at hand and shutting everything else out while pushing your physical limits to accomplish something remarkable and dangerous that no one else cares about at all. The old saying is true 3 sports motorcycle racing, mountain climbing, and bull riding everything else is just a game.

Less than 100% focus is why the young man recently fell to his death from El Capitan. He apparently rappelled down to retrieve something and came to the end of his rope and fell to his death. So sad.

The video is out there, it’s not graphic or anything but yes very sad.  It looked like he was in a hurry which caused his fatal mistake

The key to roped climbing is accepting that most accidents occur because of human error, not mechanical failure so it's up to you and your partner to keep your head on straight and not mess up and don't worry about the rope spontaneously breaking.

More accidents happen when rappelling vs climbing, rappelling off the end of the rope is one of the most common climbing accidents, it's easily preventable by putting a knot in each end of the rope, but those knots can get snagged in cracks which ends up in a dangerous PITA situation so most climbers don't know the end.

Rappelling is a tool to get down and usually it's after you've spent all day climbing so you are tired, it might be dark so you are doing it by head lamp and people rush it and make mistakes.
