For what it's worth, we designed this race around someone like me... which is exactly like you. Washed up dirtbikers. Our first one, I hadn't actually raced in 15+ someodd years, nor done a 15-minute moto since Loretta Lynn's in 2002. But it's meant to be low-key, with long flowy lap times. Not a full-on 5 lap moto sprint. It was "very manageable" (meaning it kicked my ass, but it was the perfect amount of hard) for me and 2 other dudes at the 500W. I ended up doing around 9 laps that day. I was the team member that got to cross the finish line, and it was, by far, the pinnacle of my washed up dirtbiker career.
With a 4 person team, this will be a blast. 3 is definitely a bit more challenging. Dynamic Duo or Solo is insanity IMO 😅 We had 17 people go solo for the 500W this year. I can't fathom haha
Hope to see you out there!
Just do it. I did the 500 West this year and it was top notch. A bit of suffering, but well worth it. My teammates are still chatting it up regularly.
Unrelated, who makes the softest clamp on grips?
Asking for me, because apparently I'm going to Ironman it as far as I can go.
used to called the "cornstock 100" rode it back in the day lots of seat time and was a fun race. not sure could make 500 minutes and not sure how good at those trails anymore. but the place rocked for this kind of race.

I did the GP back before the Bomber was a thing and loved it rubber band start on a grass track. Last time I did the team race was 2017.
There is a soft odi rogue but they are kind of big. Renthal has ultra soft lock ons that are pretty soft. Odi has their new d3o grips but I haven’t tried them yet. My favorite so far are the Renthals (if you don’t clip a tree) or the Odi Emig pro.
Just got a call from some buddies about this last night….thinking of it too, I see there is a ‘hard enduro’ section….that terrifies me.
I did the 500 West this year (3 man Vet team) and it was an absolutely epic time - with zero training and minimal race time in the past year. For the couple days that followed, I was so blown out that I didn’t even want to talk about it. A few months on, I already have my game plan for next year and can’t WAIT! Do it 💪
Regarding the hard enduro section, if it’s anything like the West edition, low-speed technical - navigating logs and tractor tires. Also, the most hilarious spot for the peanut gallery to watch from.
I'm hoping it will just be a few telephone poles piled up, but if I've gotta pop up over some tractor tires stood up or navigate a nasty rock garden, I may be utilizing the scaredy cat lane.
To put it into perspective; at the 500 West (500+ minutes of racing), the average lap times were 15min, while the Scaredy Cat lane took about 90sec and the hard enduro course took less than 30sec. If the hard enduro section saves a minute per lap at approximately 33 laps, that's two laps you've got over teams who go Scaredy Cat 😉
My mantra is going to be "slow and steady may not win the race, or even finish the race, but might get close to finishing"
I'll probably double my total hours riding for the year doing it.
