Starting to look like bike again. Waiting on a seat cover and exhaust. The exhaust was supposed to be here a couple weeks ago from Pro-Form Racing. Eric Cook in Ontario CA. Anyone know him? Still trying to find a CR rear backing plate.

PS - I just checked the husqvarna-parts.com listing, and the picture they have there is much different to what you've got from them, and, the OEM - well, at least the ones I got 44 years ago....... so be it:

Husqvarna parts.com - pic of 40mm cable guide%2C but it%27s differnt to OEM and one on Vital

So I looked back and I got that off E-bay and he does not show another. I'm going to have to use one like your showing because the one I have hits the tank at full lock.

I thought you might have that problem, with the Clamp housing at the rear. Std clearance was tight, to my limited recollection, and the 40s, would have reduced that a bit - Good choice on going to 40s by the way - prev (35s?) were like wet noodles.

Have to say, if the picture of the bike on the hitch was how you got it, it was in remarkable condition for a 45 year old bike.

And, what you've done, is very impressive.

Yeah that’s how it came. Was a very good starting point

The Mako 360 / XGear bar mounts : you could buy them as a direct fitment to the 40s, or did you do some fabricating to fit?

Anything to make an older bike, especially a big one, 'nicer' to ride, is a good thing in my books! I had to make a set of mounts to accommodate XTrig PHDS bar mounts, together  / integral with an UNIC / Ohlins SD, while keeping the SD in the center of the steer stem, in any of the 4 bar positions available, on my old beastie. Well worth the weekend of machining, that was.

Another question: did the ORs have an even more kicked out head angle to the actual construction of the frame, from other Huskies, or, did they use slightly shorter shocks to achieve that? I have in my Tiny Bear Brain, that the ORs were even more stable than other Huskies of the time, and Huskies, were already noted for that - Stability -  and not for their sharp steering.

I wonder if its the same Eric from Eric's motorcycles? I;m thinking not, but who knows? When I got my first real bike '78 KTM 400. Eric's was the place to get all parts in 1980. When I had my '81 CR125 of Husky Flavor. Again Eric's was the source for all things Husky in 1984.

I do not know the person in Ontario, but if we need to do a drive by to check on status, let me know.

Lance and XC Gear are about 20 miles from my shop. I took the upper triple clamp there and he spent about 1/2 hour mixing and matching parts until he came up with a solution. I know we ended up using Kawasaki cones and mounts for Talaria E bike to get the width correct. Its only a few mm's off from a current KTM and I know some guys that have made them work. I don't really know about the difference between the older Husky's.

It's strange because he does not seem to work directly with customers.  But has a couple of people that have access to him and sells them. Its a bizzare setup. I'm getting a pipe made by JSV in Belgium. I'll run the stock exhaust until then. https://jsvexhausts.com/

When I lived on the farm driving into town . A farmer had one of these it would’ve been a 78 or 79 tho I think  . Sitting in his yard he had a kick stand & maybe a tail light . . I thought it looked cool I still do . Rare cool bike

Good idea upgrading the forks the stock 1980 forks flexed like a wet dog shaking. I remember making a X shaped brace for the triple clamps that help reduce the flex

Sooo close, still waiting on a seat cover. Did fire it up today and I have some carb issues. Something with the floats I think. May end up with a Lectron. IMG 1815 2

I've gotten stuff from Eric in the past when he was owner of Maico Only in Pasadena (I think it was Eric's Motorcycles prior to Maico Only). I was told he started Pro Form Racing exhaust systems to branch out into other brands in addition to Maicos.  The couple times I talked to him in trying to get a pipe back in the day, he was straight forward and no nonsense and then handed me off to someone else to take care of the details. I was fine with that.  The pipe did take many months to get, though, so I'm not surprised with any delays. Your 390 is looking awesome!

It’s been awhile, but I’m pretty sure my 1982 XC 125 had steel bars.
