Sounds like Cooper Webb. Has he raced a full outdoors for Star? Was he SX only?

Comment from Ian Harrison on Tom Vialle (via the KTM PR): "Tom decided he would sit out race two after lacking confidence in his setup, so he called it a day."

He has to be trying to get himself fired and phoning it in for contractural obligation purposes.
Somehow with putting in 30% effort he still ended up 6th in the 450 Motocross championship:

6th -- 9th  -- 13th  -- 17th  -- 5th  -- 6th  -- 9th  -- 14th  -- 5th  --12th  -- 10th   for the overall finishes.

Not only did he finish 6th overall, but he led laps and scored two holeshots, something most of his competitors on that chart were unable to do. On a bike he didn’t trust enough to ride at top speed for the full moto. Know what else he accomplished? He avoided both injury and illness during the entire outdoor season, which undoubtedly helped his overall finish.

It’s easy to avoid injury riding at 70%…

Exactly. And it’s smarter to ride a sub-optimal bike at 70% than risking injury.

Vialle's dropping out surprised me.  It may be that he's just over it, miserable, wanting to return to Europe, and just unwilling to go out there and go through the motions.  We all occasionally need to take a sick day.  It just surprises me, because he's conducted himself professionally the entire time he's been in the states.

For Prado, it's easy to jump on the bandwagon about how what he's doing is incredibly terrible.  My thoughts are that there's more to the story than we're hearing.

If he simply doesn't gel with the bike, because the power is more in the mid - high RPMs, then if that can't be resolved, he needs to either ask to be released in a way that is good for both parties, or learn to ride the bike the way it is.

If he's asked to be released from his contract, maybe quite a while ago, and denied, maybe he's been trying to get fired for a long time.

But, unless he's communicated this to his new team and sponsors, how can the new team/sponsors possibly want to hire him?

Unless he's done this before, this all seems out of character for him.

Again, I suspect there's more to the story than we know.

My speculation about Prado’s situation is that what he has been asking for is something that cannot be easily done at the team level and requires a significant change from the factory that they are either unwilling to do or unable to do this season. And because it involves the factory, both Prado and the team are not at liberty to speak publicly about it. I don’t think it’s ever been as simple as suspension revalving, engine remapping or even steering geometry revisions… but it’s something that clearly makes him uncomfortable.

What’s wild to me is that, despite missing basically the entire supercross season, and despite never being an outdoor podium threat (and having been beaten on a number of occasions by privateers) he’s still the top Kawasaki rider in SMX points by decent margin.

I'd say him finishing 6th has more to do with the inconsistency of everyone not named Jett and Hunter Lawrence than it does with any effort Prado put out.

Be hilarious if he rips the holey from the outside…

Almost looked like he was going to for a moment, too

I sit here every week wondering what’s it like when he rides back to the truck. Does he ride in head down and kawi is like “wtf is going on with you? Everyone else can win on this bike except you” or is it like Prado wheeling in throwing it to his mechanic saying “this things a piece of shit!” It’s gotta be awkward as hell either way though.

I’m not sure what happened after the race because the public pit passes are only good until noon, but I can tell you what I saw in the Kawi pits when Prado was getting ready to go out to practice: normality. He geared up, they checked his sag, made an adjustment, checked it again and then he and his mechanic headed out to the track. They were all smiling and enjoying life. Definitely wasn’t doom and gloom.

I'm going to stand corrected on my hypothetical on Vialle.  Safety comes first.  My hypothetical was just that, but it was way off base.  I guess that's why it surprised me.
