19-23 KX450 How to get more power

What's the cheapest/easiest way to squeeze more power out of this bike? I have a 2023 and would like some more snap off the bottom, especially on these dry Socal tracks in the sumer where the berms before the jumps are straight powder. Top end power is pretty good on the bigger fast tracks.

It's been awhile since anyone posted content about this generation bike so I can't remember, did people cut the airbox like they're doing now for the current bike? I'm already running an air filter cage (No Toil) with no screen.

Is a remap to clean the power up the best way to get some more snap on this bike? I think i'd rather try that before spending the money on a pipe or getting the head done. Although i'm not opposed to doing that as I like this bike and plan to keep it for a little while. Everyone says the head/pipe/map combo on the SR version is really good.

Also, i've been on this bike for almost 2 years now and  haven't touched the couplers. Is the black one the one I would want to try? Does it actually make a difference?

Thanks

Gearing, drill airbox, fmf slipon, Hc piston. Mine is well strong enough.
Pc full system on a friends focused power more top.

I believe the mapping is the most effective and cheapest way to make better power delivery. I tried Tokyo Mods and didn't get what I was looking for. Twisted was definitely the fix for my Husky.  A Bills Pipe might be the best bang for your buck in a pipe if you got that route.

Where did you drill the airbox? What year is your bike?

Yeah I'm thinking mapping is the way to go. The guy who does my suspension had this generation bike and says he has an awesome map for it. I think next time I'm in there I'll just bring my whole bike in. She's due for a suspension service, valving change and mapping update.

you just need to take the ECU, not the whole bike. I mean mapping could get you what you are looking for. A slip on exhaust also significantly helps the bottom end. You could change gearing. Go to a 51 or 52 rear sprocket. Also, do you ever use 1st gear? I remember on that model bike 1st gear was actually usable coming out of a tight deep corner for sure.

The black coupler is the smoothest map. That's going to do the opposite of what you are looking for. The white coupler is the most aggressive.

Bunch of holes in the top. 22 yr. Keep the stock header as its best for lower power.
Can skim the head as a cheaper option to piston but obviously not reversible, but worth it and cheaper on going. I havent updated to the next gen as i love this model. 21.5 split clamps, 1 tooth up, keefer map changes, 1 extra link in chain to get axle back so it weights the front in turns better. Stiffer seat foam. Best bike ive owned.

Also an Aussie company Krooztune make a kyb style midvalve post conversion for the showa forks. Absolutely great mod. Plushness of kyb and hold up of showa. Win win

13/50 gearing, 114L chain, and green coupler came standard. I prefer 13/51 with a 116L chain, left the OE header and run a PC slip-on. Monster luggers (at sea level) can even go 13/52, but that’ll definitely require a 116L chain. White coupler may give you what you’re looking for, the price is right (free), and it’s certainly worth testing.

Most aftermarket exhausts (noticeably the PC complete system) move the power up, and even many remaps/aftermarket boxes mellowed that initially oomph more than anything; Attempting to make the 19-23’ generations less jerky and more rideable. 12.5:1 compression ration allows for slight decking or going to a 13/13.5:1 comp piston, but that’s probably your last resort/nuclear option…Clutch plates fresh? Does Hinson offer a higher Nm belleville spring? Easy things to check/change 👍

Bought my '23 used, previous owner had black coupler in.

I tried the green and liked the more aggressive power

So i tried the white and it was too snappy and jerky, went back to green.

I can also tell you adding in a splash of race fuel will smooth out the bottom end power.

I mix a gallon into 4 gals of 93

I had a 19 with a ecu mapped by Tokyo Mods and full PC exhaust and it was a rocket ship . Two of my faster A buddies said it was too fast . The power was smooth and a shit ton .

Twisted Development wants $350 to map an ECU. Is the juice worth the squeeze, or can another company get it done cheaper? Rode a 2018 YZ450 today and now my motor feels like a turd! Lol!

Nice! The SRs look so sick. Especially the older model that had KYB suspension. But I hear the SR Showa stuff is really good too

Lightens the wallet an extra buck!

Not exactly sure, but I swapped my two strokes to Iridium plugs and they seemed to start easier and just generally run better, and last longer.

They have an Iridium center electrode which is thinner than the standard plug.

Ok? What about mapping though? Where can I send it and get some actual performance?

lmao maybe you're in the wrong sport then.  Or maybe sell the kawi for a new yamaha, well known for having the power that you seem to be looking for.

Vortex will get you what you are looking for. significant improvement plus lots of customization or options to have the power where you want it.

I've remapped stock ECUs on KX450s (2013 & 2019) and on a CRF450 (2013) via Tokoymods and was very happy.  It was a noticable improvement across the board.  I bought a Vortex for my 2022 SR and have tried maps with Twisted and XPR.  It is currently on my 24 with XPR maps and works fantastic.  I'd say a bit better, but mostly what I enjoy is being able to switch maps with it and fine tune with the clickers based on conditions and the fuel that I'm running.  Best value is flashing the stock ECU in my opinion.

Thank you! Yeah I'm gonna try mapping. If I can get a cleaner throttle response in tight turns and some more bottom I'll be happy. I don't need Yamaha 450 rip my arms off power. The top end power on this bike is actually really good on hills and fast straights.
