It was Vegas 2003 and yes, James was doing a quad on a 125 that RC and Reed would not do on their 250. I wish someone had video of it. That jump was crazy!
I am glad someone else remembers it, bubba was running a second a lap faster than RC was, and I am a huge RC fan and not so much of a bubba fan so no disrespect to RC but that was very impressive.

It said "ever." Not in this era, or that era. Ever.

I remember bubbas rookie, or second year he was quading this jump after a triple at this supercross track.... Shit was insane to watch on t.v. I think it was Miniapolis, or st. lous or something I remember it was right next to the grandstands.
Anyone know which one im talkng about? R.C. was tripling it and most dudes were going 2-2 over it.

Just making sure he isnt just referring the period of time since its been call "Lites", but if referring to EVER in both eras combined- James without question.

259 could work a "lites" bike better than anyone--be it a 250f or a 125. I'm not talking about the Bubba scrub, either. His corner speed was the factor.

This mofo would go 40th - 1st and still win by 30 seconds.

The rumors of Stewie being faster than RC (450) on his 125 were overblown, though. He did do it on very few occasions. I think it was Budds when he wen't 40th - 1st was one of the examples of him being faster than the 250s and 450s. Whether or not he had faster lap times than a 450, doesn't matter. That isn't why he is the best "lites" rider.

James redefined speed on a tiddler. You will never find another in the course of history with the win record, speed, determination, and cockyness. There were only a handful of examples that anyone could even be close to him. 2 of them are ron ron. He just dominated like no other on the small bikes.

lol good point newmann....

but regarding 125/250f im going with JBS...dont like Stewart at all, BUT respect what he did on that 125. If he woulda raced Alessi, RV, AC222, CP, and the more recent guys I gotta be honest: I think he woulda won. He was THAT fast.
and he annialated the field of 250F's on a 125! JBS by far.... RV2 a close 2nd though...
by far. a close second. lol. what?
10/14/2010 8:08pm
Wasn't it Stewart himself who rode a 250f in his last small bore race and said something like "after riding this bike I have no idea how I won on a 125 at all."" He destroyed them at Glen Helen. Him on a 250f for a full season makes me shudder in fear. On the ground in the first corner to first in about 15 minutes is no joke on a 125, I can't imagine it on a 250f.

bleh. it said lites. lites. lites. lites. that referes technically to an era. but JBS so rediculolusly fast. if anyone has forgotten just hop on youtube.
10/14/2010 8:31pm
The reason why it's JBS is because he had speed you could 'see'. By that I mean you can watch him rail a corner and scrub a jump and visually see just how tapped that guy was.

This is Stewart at that race. Forward to 2:30 mark if you lack patience. How many riders have pulled up and let someone by on purpose like that???? 259 without question.

lol, we aren't talking about 250 two stroke or a 450f...

My list would change big time for those classes. Try to think in terms of 250f and 125.

I don't think any of you remember Glen Helen , James rode the 250f and murdered everybody. It was not even fair. As far as RV and the MXDN the O show came threw the pack and past 500's if I remember this right.

Barnett. If the motos were 40 +2 he might still be winning.
Good call,Bomber was awesome,longer
Motos too, townley went toe to toe against RV

If you don't answer James Stewart Jr. to this question then you are lying to yourself.

And oh yeah, please stop using the term "Lites.". That shit is so disrespectful.

Or they didn't see him in person at a National. Watching him at Broome was nuts. He was pinned with the front wheel up coming down the big downhill that had about 3' braking bumps all the way down. I don't even know how he was making the corner at the bottom. Earlier I was doubling the bumps it was so bad. Then, on the back big table he was scrubbing so hard he would almost take out the flagger on the side of the jump every lap. Not to mention he was landing 20' past the landing in this tiny little hole he found.

IMO the fastest 125cc rider ever was Bubba.. The fastest 250f rider to date was RV. When somebody else wins three motos at the Des Nations (RV won 2 in 07 and 1 in 08) on a 250f vs the best 450f riders in the world I'll give them the title.

Herlings in holland would beat them all tho lol
Take Stewart out of that group and it would be an awesome race for 2nd.

The only problem about threads like these and comparisons is technology. You had guys like Barnett , O-show, Lechien, and Ward that were blistering fast on the technology and know how that they had back then but when you look at video and compare speed they were the speed of modern B or fast C riders. Technology and technique has advanced so much since their time. What I'm getting at is if the riders I mentioned had the bikes of today and the know how of today's techniques (scrubbing, blitzing whoops etc..) there's no telling how fast they'd be.

That being said I don't think you can have a thread about the fastest lites/125 riders without mentioning Barnett and Ward.

Not only did he say that after he smoked the field at Glen Helen, but he also mention that he was able to do it with such little effort. We probably would have seen the first 125/250 perfect season that year. That Could have been a perfect season in both classes that year!

Bubba DESTROYED people. I don't remember anyone that beat Bubba straight up in the 125 class. bubba would either win by a minute or go down 7 times and get 3rd.

RC is an animal but as much as he dominated he also had battles with broc selards for wins.
