What is Hunter getting paid? Is it enough?

Its well documented what Jett's contract is worth (assuming its accurate..) Has there been any indication what Hunter is worth?? As we all know, teams typically budget for 1x 'A' rider & 1x 'B' rider. Well HRC have landed up with 2x 'A' riders, but are they paying 2x 'A' rider salaries?? And IF not, what if a different factory team offered him 'A' rider salary? Would he chase it?? Hunter is currently better than Yamaha's 'A' rider, Kawasaki's 'A' rider, Husqvarna's, KTM's, Gas Gas', Suzuki's, Triumph's, and anyone else who cares to be mentioned. Why wouldn't /couldn't this happen? And the biggest question- would Hunter chase the $$$$s?? Yeah yeah, we all know about the team & family dynamic & why/how that has made them successful, and yes, that is very likely to continue until their retirement. BUT....... this is bench racing, so let's play with ideas..

I was thinking this yesterday.

If Hunter were at any other team he’d be their A guy getting A money.  I can’t imagine he’s getting that from Honda at the moment, and as much as I love my brother I wouldn’t want to take deducted pay my whole life to support him if I could make much more elsewhere.  This is especially true in a dangerous sport with a short career timeline.  You’ve kinda got to get your money and get out when it makes sense.

Exactly my thinking. Honda's 'B' money is likely a BIG difference to Yamaha's 'A' money. Unless The Lawrences are combining all their monies & dividing equally between the three of them? (Jett, Hunter & Dazzy) They all deserve it. And there's obviously ample to go round for their lifetime.

Hunter ain't stupid.  He knows, at best, his results on another brand or team will be the same as they are now.

I think Lars knows that the boys are happier and perform better together.

I also think they all know they've struck gold in a diamond mine but since we are talkin' about human people...anything is possible.

Hunter's lack of SX results, so far, probably hurt his bargaining power a little.

There have been talk about like 15% of the boys money goes back to mom and dad.

I would guess that Hunter might have podium bonuses while Jett has win bonuses in his contract like RC had for some years.

Another thing that comes to mind is mechanics championship bonuses and salary.

Maybe ML could shine some light on this.

Definitely agree that the results would likely be the same at best, but the money could (obviously speculation) be a lot different.

I think that Hunter could potentially be hired by a different team than Jett, but it’d probably take a pretty good financial difference and length of contract. If Honda decides that they are going to sign him to 1 year contracts and someone else comes in with a 3 year or more deal, then I could see that as something he’d at least consider.

And F12

I'd guess they both make plenty each year, one a bit more than the other but both will be set for life.

Honda already has the guy who does all tbe winning. No need to pay big bucks for the #2 rider.

In other threads in this topic, the consensus is that because they came from nothing, Hunter is happy getting #2 money, being together as a family, and has no real desire to be #1 on the track or in the truck.

I don’t personally see it that way but that’s the storyline.

This isn’t about results, this is about pay & if Honda value him as a typical ‘B’ rider and if another manufacturer may value high higher.

What price do you put on training together on the same bike, out of the same truck, 2 incredible talents trouble shooting the issues together, the ability to control what happens at the front of the pack, celebrating as a team effort?

Surely they are worth more as a package deal, the marketing madness and hype promoting a family in what is at grass roots a family sport is huge...

Even Dazzy in his latest interview is oozing that Steve Irwin energy, its all a good look for Honda.

You nailed it. Honda HRC is in a good place and they are happy to pay for that. The Lawrence's will be up there for at best the next 5 yrs..

I’d say hunter would be aware of what the other riders earn and his salary wouldn’t be too far off what his results deserve. Def not struggling for money

It's not just paying for a #2 rider, it's paying to help Jett. Both guys ride similar, and I believe Hunter is better at testing, so what he tests and can communicate with the team, also helps Jett.

Yes, Hunter is his own rider, but looking big picture, he also helps Jett, and that needs to be taken into account, and this way you also have Dazzy's full attention. If the boys split, he's going to help both, so it's less focus on Honda, which I'm sure they want to keep, because it's working.

Even though it's not a package deal, keeping them together has many other side benefits, that I'm sure Honda is taking into consideration.

If Deegan were able to climb the mountain it would be more impressive than just beating Jett on its own, as formidable as that will be. You can see that Hunter is much more aggressive with other riders than he is with little bro. HD will have to slay a motivated Hunter first every week.

For Honda, it may be a consideration that keeping Hunter is a defensive prep move on multiple levels.

You’re right. But you missed the point of the topic..

what would happen if Yamaha offered Hunter the big bucks to be their number 1 guy?

Do you think Hunter would take it??

I brought this up a few weeks ago and got downvoted for it. My point was exactly what yours is. An argument can be made he could be the #1 guy at another factory rig. We know Honda is paying Jett good and they may not pay Hunter what some other teams are willing to pay. Honda renewed his contract in 2022 for 2 years. Well, he’s racing for them this year but we haven’t seen another press release about a contract extension. Honda has never been known to keep riders, RC is an example. People seemed to think Honda would just pay him and why would the family split up. I agree it’s a great dynamic and it’s working. However, you do have to wonder if he’s leaving money on the table and if this will last forever.

He might...but would it be an improvement to the situation he's in now.  Those other teams also have to ask themselves, "Do we want to pay #1 money to a second place guy."  I love me some Hunta but ain't no other team or bike gonna get him in front of Jett.

At this point, ALL the other teams know that no amount of money is gonna beat Jett.  Of course Jett could crash his brain out but...🙃

Privateers do not get paid enough that’s true

Also, Hunter is probably top 5 in the world at the sport he does.  Thats pretty substantial.

Great question Plow. You might extend it a little. “Do we want to pay #1 money to a second place guy…that might not be willing to do what it takes to mix it up to become the #1 guy in this particular case?”

No judgement to Hunter…just thinking this through from a business perspective.

It's a family unit, and they are staying together. You don't get Jett without Hunter, whether or not Jett is subsidizing any salaries to make that happen who knows, but I'd bet my house that this will be how it goes until they're done racing.

Currently, Yamaha is paying #1 money to a third place guy though..🤷‍♀️

Kawasaki is paying #1 money to a sixth place guy & KTM is paying #1 money to a thirteenth place guy..

Furthermore, the improvement Would be, salary.

And that’s the question- what is Hunter getting paid, versus, Jett, Chase, Eli, Prado, and every other fatories #1?

For the foreseeable Jett will be Honda’s #1, that’s obvious.

Could  Hunter be another team’s #1??

Is it enough?

It was enough for him to re-sign an extension.
