save yourself a few head injuries and get something nice man. after 3concussions in three different helmets ranging from 150-300, i broke down and got a Shoei this year when i moved to the A class . best choice ever. you actually ride better bc your confidence is higher. lol. get one, you wont be sorry.
Ya then that way when you crash you can just go out and buy another $500 helmet.
Sounds good if you got the money.

If you have a $10 head, then wear a $10 helmet....

Time for a new lid.

Anyone got any links for helmet shootouts or reviews? Yes, I looked over the stuff in the products section here.

I already know there are die-hard Shoei or Arai folks but I see there are a lot more choices these days. LIGHT weight is good. Removable liner / pads is good. A sale price is always good.

Shoei..best helmet PERIOD!

UFO has a new helmet, Not sure if it is the lightest but I think it weighs in at just over 2 lbs. ufoplasticusa.com

I wore the One Industries Trooper for a while and really liked it... I then bought a Fox V3 on clearance... the V3 is FAR lighter than the Trooper and far more comfortable for me. I eventually picked up another V3 on clearance... couldn't pass up the price... I will likely get another as soon as I find another good clearance deal.

I had a bad endo off of the face of a double bout 5 weeks ago. The crash broke my Arai on both sides of the face guard. That is the way the Arai is engineered. Between it and my Leatt they saved my bacon. Best $500+ I ever spent on a helmet.
Sorry to hear you crashed hard. Glad the Arai and Leatt did their job.. It is an almost guarantee that a lesser (see Korean/Chinese=most of the lids on the market today) lid would have left you much worse for the wear. Personally, I wouldn't run anything other than Arai or Shoei.

I was long time ARAI guy. They fit my head and they are very comfortable, and safe as well I believe. But, they are getting pricey.

I now have a KLIM helmet. I ride mostly offroad and sweat pretty bad. The KLIM flows a lot of air. It is a good helmet, not as plush an ARAI, but good none the less.

I have had Shoei's for so long and they are great. I like the way the Airoh's look.

Anyone try HJC ?

HJC CS/MX HELMET - THRUST

I kinda like the look of this. Very low price.

I'm having a lot of trouble finding actual helmet reviews. Don't MXA, Transworld, etc do helmet tests?

As far as pure safety ... what about Suomy lids ... and the B.S.I. 6658 Type A Certifications. ( B.S.I., British Standards Institute ). I've read that DOT and SNELL are really more appropriate for street bike type accidents.

I'm not sure that a very high price is necessarily a guarantee of safety. Do any of you Arai / Shoei folks have any tests or reviews?

This past spring I bought the red Moto 8 from these guys and love it! The store manager had just visited the Bell headquarters in Calif and was able to give me plenty of reasons to chose a Bell.
Great price and service, too!
Hey...this price is a bit lower than I spent! hahaha!

HJC fits me great and I think the Moto 8 fits the same, so use that as a comparison.

Go to the manufacturers websites and see what they do for testing, I will only use a ARAI because I want to keep me noggin safe. I'm too smart AND good lookin to risk messin with perfection son......

As others have said in many many other helmet threads...It's all about personal preference and what fits well.

I currently have Arai, Shark and Shoei and in my opinion the Shoei feels like it has all the other's beat when it comes to finish and quality..plus it fits my head really well. Very impressed with the Shoei.

I also like the way the Shark feels...I like it better than Arai. Considering the price of the Arai, I'm kinda disappointed with the way it feels on my head .

I'd like to check out an Airoh someday but I won't mail order one without being able to try it on as that's how I ended up with an expensive Arai that I'm not so keen on.

So I tried on a bunch of lids today and the one that felt best was the FOX V3. I've never been a Fox guy but I guess I may be going that route.

Several, like the Troy Lee or One Ind, etc just felt too short on my head. The Shoei VFX-W felt OK but for some reason the Fox V3 fit best. Not crazy about the limited graphics for it though. It seem like all their stuff is mostly black other than the Dungey model and the Monster model.

Someone mentioned the lightest Fox model? Would that be the V3 Carbon? ( Haven't found full specs that include weights yet. )

The HJC that I liked on paper turned out to be DOT only ( no SNELL ) and a little on the heavy side. I also noted that the Thor lids aren't SNELL either. They are DOT and ECE. ( ECE is some European rating apparently. ) A couple other brands were also DOT only.

There are still a few more that I want to try on ... but I was surprised how different the fit was between brands.
