Do you happen to know if John Banks was in those first groups?  I used to buy a few bits from his shop in Bury...late '70's.

Wow ! I really wish they had more details on the missing years, the reason being is I have a story from the late 70's, early 80's, I can't remember the exact year but it involves a Husky like that that was supposedly "in the movie". I was working at South Shore surfboards in TustIn Ca. as a polisher. It was a large factory that had 5-6 different shapers pumping out surfboards under lots of different labels and sending them to Japan. The "Japan orders" they called them. It sounded like a big money maker for the shop and there was a sense of urgency for those orders that usually wasn't there. They had a crew of shapers and glassers that worked long days to make "The Japan orders" on time. I was one of two polishers. Anyway the business was owned (if memory serves me correct) by two brothers, Bob and Jerry Mowe. I never confirmed it but Jerry looked like the big guy on the minibike in the beginning of the movie. Those guys were all friends with the beach road crew from Capistrano Beach in that era, Walter and Flippy Hoffman, Hobie Alter, Wayne Schafer, Mickey Munoz, Daryl "Doggie" Diamond, and of course Bruce Brown. I never met so many characters in one place in my whole life. So anyway I noticed this Husky in the back of the shop one day and ask about it, who's is it and do they want to sell it ? I forget who but someone told me yeah you can have it, a hundred bucks. I said sweet I'll bring it next week. I took the bike home, unloaded it and took it to where we rode right above my house. (A hill above San Clemente, Ave Salvador now for those familiar with the area)  Within the first 5 minutes I pulled a big long power wheelie, when I set the front wheel down the forks collapsed and the front brake cable hooked on the front knobbie, the front wheel locked and washed out and I dislocated my fingers on my left hand, the pinky is fucked up to this day. A couple days later I'm back at work and the Moe brothers want to know where the Husky is. I said Oh sorry man I'll bring the hundred bucks in tomorrow, "Bring the bike back it's NOT for sale"  I was like oh shit really it's kind of a cool bike how about $150 ?  They seemed pissed like it was never even for sale in the first place and said bring the fucker back. The two brothers were like linebacker size and not happy with me, (and whoever said I could have it, might have been Doggie I but I really don't remember, anyway I said sure no problem). I brought back the bike the next day. Later on someone told me it was one of the bikes from On Any Sunday. It made sense, those guys were kind of a group back then.  Could've been the same bike, or another bike from the movie, no idea. But I know they for sure wanted it back 😄

I haven't thought of those days in a long time. This post reminded me of it. Now that I'm sitting here dwelling on it, I seem to remember a guy named Scott Castille sp ? or something like that ?, he might've been developing knee braces ? Does that sound familiar to anyone ? I think he might have been the guy who owned the Husky, that whole era's kinda blurry lol. The only "Proof" I have of my story is my tweaked pinky lol

Was he a Honda dealer then? He's the longest serving Honda dealer in England and has a bunch of Honda car & motorcycle dealerships in & around Suffolk.

I believe he first rode the inaugural Trans AMA in 1970 with Dave Nicoll and Jeff Smith.

He had a small little track next to his shop in Bury.  I thought he was doing some development work on the early XR's.

I did ride with Bavin, out of Diss, in the sand pits near Lakenheath.  His dad owned the shop in Diss...Yamaha if I remember.

Barber Motorsports Museum would be a great home for that bike.

So.. really can't remember all the details but I will be asking him more about it when I see him next.. Banks only sell cars now I think, bikes went a long time ago... Banks Honda, Bavin's Yamaha.. names from the past...

Jim Castillo founded Innovation Sports, the inventor of the CTi Knee brace. He bought Castillo Ranch with the proceeds from his business, as I understand it. Dave Castillo is his son, who raced pro in the '90s or 2000s.

EDIT: Jim's brother is Ed Castillo - I understand he was involved in Innovation Sports, as well.

I used to speak regularly with Pete (Bavin)

What a lovely guy. Haven’t spoken to him for maybe ten years nearly. Is he well do you know? Must be getting on a bit now..

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking when I watched that video. That place is amazing. Almost overwhelming with the amount of stuff they have there.

I think Pete passed a few years ago...he was 90 or so.  Mike runs the shop now.  He was always very cool with me.  Stood for me at the Diss club.  He was on a new '77 YZ400 and I was on a '75 MX400 "White shark" so he felt pretty sorry for me.🤣

I may have missed it. Did the paperwork in the video confirm the vin number?
