Wow that sucks. I didn't know people were having that issue on this bike.

I didn't either! I noticed the first one when I had the bike torn all the way down. Did what I thought was the "right" thing. Got it welded, then thought it'd be back to smooth sailing! But now after only just a little over 2 months of riding, now this crack! Which is more significant and notable than the first!! I don't understand! I know crazy things happen but dang! Only thing I knew of was the common issue with the muffler bracket breaking off the sub-frame, but I NEVER had an issue with that! Not even a little crack. Now I just don't know what to do. Bike has a good amount of time on it. I already was fighting the new bike itch, and now I feel like I need to just scratch that itch! Part this one out and just carry on...I don't know. Dang dirtbikes man!!! LOL

Lots of talk about the chain guide on this bike but has anyone had issues with the slider? This is the third chain slider I've had on this bike in only 45 hours. And the second one (Acerbis) didn't even make it through one day without shredding apart! The TM Designs at least made it 15-20 hours but for the price I expected more. I'm still running the stock chain guide and it's holding up great. Chain tension in spec with the manual (48-55mm). EK X-ring chainIMG 5421 0IMG 5420 1 that's fairly new. What gives? Came back from one session today my chain was loose AF and I see my slider all torn. I was still able to ride the rest of the day but it made me pretty anxious. Is this bike just hard on sliders?

That's odd, I have well over 75 hours on my tm designs slider and its still holding up well.  Maybe try a different chain and double check the install? Im using RK gb520mxu.

My top chain slider bolt will not stay tight no matter what I do. I check it regularly, just added new blue loctite to the bolt and still came loose this weekend. Guess I'll try a dab of red? Anyone else have this issue?

I'm using the TM Designs slider with the provided hardware. I don't remember having this issue with the stock one.

I got the tab reenforced before it broke on my 19. They charged me $40 and it lasted over 200 hours till I sold it. I did use the pc with rubber mount not the Fmf.

Pretty wild conclusion he came up with after 193 pages of mostly praise for a bike haha

Nice! I'm thinking of getting one. Good to know. Also....

I'm stoked to see this thread get bumped back up again. Long live the 19-23 KX450. It's such a sick bike! I have 75 hours on mine.

My 200hr reinforced is still going with FMF.
My 200hr bike is still great inside. Such a good bike. Want to replace it but cant find a reason why. Have it dialed and it just keeps on keeping on.

Has that unit had a top end done at some point or just running it raw?

4, 1 piston at 50 then ive just done rings only and 2 camchains at 100 intervals. No valve adjustment needed. Ive also pulled 1 shim out of the head gasket to up comp. Run it in white coupler as i like the crispness. Only 1 clutch which was just fibers.. i run semi syn which i believe is better on clutch life. Changed every 5 hrs and oil filters at 20 hrs.
Replaced front disc at 150, and a seat foam at 100. So due for another seat foam as its getting soft again.

Well, after 4 1/2 years on this chassis with a few different bikes, I put my last ride in on the green machine. I threw together a video of my final ride and recapping the things I did and didn’t like, and what I did to fix them.

I think these are the best all around bikes I’ve ever owned, it was honestly bittersweet to say goodbye.  I loved this model so much I bought a new 2023 as the 2024’s came out to keep it going.

If you do check out the video, I’m new to YouTube so feel free to roast it.

Cheers boys, I’ve scanned every page of this thread multiple times. Thanks for the solid info over the years!

Thank you for checking it out, I appreciate it. Feels weird starting a YouTube at 35 years old, but I believe I have some good info to give and it’s a build up to a Podcast I’m putting together with some heavy hitters. Getting some reps in!

I appreciate any input, good or bad.

Thanks!

Okay, I'm desperate at this point!

I have a 2019 KX450 that has been dying on me upon landing (even with the throttle open). It started about 2 months ago when I landed after hitting a triple at my local track. Once the tires hit the ground and suspension compressed, the bike started to bog down and then died.

Weird thing is that it starts right back up and rides fine until I land again after jumping. I did notice that it seems to happen after riding for about 30 minutes or so.

I originally thought it could be the fuel pump so I replaced it as well as changed the spark plug but the problem persists.

Have any of you guys had this issue? So many possibilities that I don't know where to start (e.g. kill switch, battery ground cable, sensor(s), fuel injector, etc.).

I would definitely check for a bad ground/corrosion on the battery cable. I've seen this happen to someone else. Good luck, hope you find the problem..

May not be it, but you're describing the issue I had with my 09 KX450 exactly word for word. It ended up being caused by me routing the wiring harness on the wrong side of a bracket after I had taken the gas tank off, and it eventually wore through in a very tiny contact point that wasn't visible easily, and a wire would short out on hard landings (maybe frame flex?) after I had been riding a while, and it would bog/die, but restart after like there was no issue. Rerouting and a little electric tape solved it after I replaced the fuel pump, plug, and capacitor trying to solve it before finally eyeing the harness with a more careful eye.

Ok, my fuel pump decided to stop firing over the weekend. What have we been using for a replacement? Any aftermarket ones of decent quality, or is the much pricier OEM worth it?

Replaced the flakey pump on my 23-SR with the All Balls fuel pump kit (47-2061) and it's been fine since.
