Save some of that energy for the box of classified documents found next to the presidents gas guzzling corvette ,the same president that screwed up the entire auto industry with his BS electric car mandates .

I don't agree with the EV mandates, and the flip flopping on policy every 4 years costs US auto companies billions of dollars, and they don't get time to retool and recoup these costs. While we are having our internal pissing match other countries/companies are humming along making shit better than us, because we are too preoccupied figuring out what direction to go.

But bagging on Biden for driving a Corvette, while Donny galivants around the country/globe for personal business on a jet funded by us is an interesting take.

Didn't Donny have a Tesla demo on the Whitehouse lawn?

I don't like the Fed mandating EVs, and making things more expensive for the individual. I dislike that we attack this whole issue from the bottom, as it increases costs and compromises individual freedoms for people like you and me.

I prefer to hop in my van and roadtrip instead of hopping on a plane. EVs don't make sense, perhaps it was a guise to build better power infrastructure 'for the individual' when they wanted improved power infrastructure for our AI overlords longer term.

I'm a conspiracy theorist these days haha.

EDIT - that said, I do think computer design will improve and it won't be such a power suck. The first computer a few decades ago took up a whole room, now the little iPhone in your pocket crushes that system on computing power, and uses barely any juice to do it. Impressive shit.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Come to think of it, I respect Biden a little more for still driving his American Corvette.. Especially when he isn't supposed to drive per protocol, defying the rules to shred a sick car. Pretty badass honestly.

Meanwhile, the only thing I've seen Donny drive is a lame ass golf cart. He chooses to listen to the rules here "he isn't allowed to drive"...

$10 says Donny doesn't know how to ride a bike either.

Get back to us when your decide to address the issue that all of Biden’s documents were taken when he had zero authorization to even have them, let alone declassify them.

Worm, can you defend your guy keeping classified and top secret documents at his home in insecure areas (where multiple guests had access to and saw them) and refusing to return them after being asked multiple times WITHOUT bringing up Biden or anyone else?

They never will. Ever. They are in way too deep for logic now. They’ve decided to pledge complete undying loyalty to a convicted felon and civilly liable rapist who is truly the biggest piece of shit human to ever hold the office. So nothing, no amount of logic or facts, will ever change ge their minds.

Hur’s report says the differences between the two cases are “clear.” Unlike Biden — who cooperated with investigators, agreed to searches of his homes and sat for a voluntary interview — the allegations in Trump’s case present “serious aggravating facts,” Hur wrote.

“Most notably, after being given multiple chances to return classified documents and avoid prosecution, Mr. Trump allegedly did the opposite,” the report said.

For instance, prosecutors say, after the Justice Department issued a subpoena for the records in May 2022, Trump asked his own lawyers if he could defy the request and said words to the effect of, “I don’t want anybody looking through my boxes.”

“Wouldn’t it be better if we just told them we don’t have anything here?” one of his lawyers described him as saying, according to the indictment.

Prosecutors allege that during the July 2021 meeting at Bedminster, Trump also waved around the classified attack plan to his guests. “This is secret information,” he said, according to a recording prosecutors have cited, claiming that, “as president I could have declassified it” but hadn’t.

Labeling incentives and quotas as “mandates” is a large part of the problem this country is having with discourse.   I don’t think any president has mandated folks to buy anything.  Could be wrong though.

Roger that, I think we mostly agree on this one. The government forcing things on us that by and large folks do not agree with. A trend I would like to see end, personally.

Texas is a good example - regardless of what you feel about immigration policy, Texas had a long withstanding bipartisan agreement on the 'Texas Dream Act', and  they've been a pioneer on tuition equity (a bunch of other states followed suit also). Texans from both side of the political divide were on board with this program, recognizing the value it brings to Texas, its people, and its economy.  It has been in place since 2001. Enter the current DOJ...Who came in and a Federal Judge ruled it unconstitutional, citing conflicts with Federal Immigration Law...What happened to returning power to the states? Within six hours they killed it, regardless of what the people of Texas believed.

Over two decades of a very successful, and beneficial bipartisan piece of legislation that has proven economic benefits out the window, regardless of what the people of Texas feel.

This is a tricky one. Do we deny people help at hospitals that don't have insurance, or cash to cover their care?

Car insurance kind of makes sense, because it covers the other person, not just you. Getting into an accident with someone with no money, and no insurance, is annoying and expensive. There are always tradeoffs.

I also hate that home insurance is mandated, and required to buy a home. Lets let the individual do their own risk assessment with some things. It is very hard for a dude like me to buy a home in CA right now, because I'm not an all-cash buyer, I need a traditional mortgage. Which I get denied, because most properties have insufficient fire coverage. What if I'm OK with that risk?

I would prefer to forego the fire insurance, and take a risk in some cases. I would do my due diligence to protect my property from fire, with vegetation mitigation and having systems in place to address this. A lot of people are very ignorant because they have insurance, and insurance always bails you out...Insurance is a complete pain in the ass to deal with.

It's not the government requiring your homeowner's insurance.  It's your lender.  They have a lot of skin in the game, so require borrowers to have insurance.

This is true, I am ignorant in this space. They definitely have skin in the game so I guess I understand this stance. Fire insurance is just crazy expensive so many properties (condos) don't have enough of it.

EDIT - I guess it could be nice if they look at other options - what if an individual accepts the risk, and has put things in place to mitigate this risk. Home insurance will continue to be a big issue in this country, and this is preventing a lot of younger folks from getting into the market. If the house burns down, we have an agreed upon resolution plan.

This is now derailing this thread, only highlights some of my knowledge and comprehension shortcomings haha.

We have wait times in Canada so our system is far from perfect, but good lord, Americans seem to get absolutely shafted by insurance companies. An example would be Ben Askren not having his lung transplant covered. It's not like he didn't have insurance. He's a celebrity so he is wealthy plus other wealthy people are helping him out. But for the average person - you're screwed. So I can see why you'd object to mandated coverage if you're being forced to pay for shitty coverage that disappears when you need it. I've got to think that neither of our systems are very good and maybe some sort of hybrid system would be better. Don't ask me what that would look like because I really don't know much about this topic - it just seems really messed up on on many levels in both of our countries.

If you're not an all-cash buyer, isn't home insurance required to protect the lender? It is, of course, a different conversation if you're a cash buyer and choose not to insure your home, the risk is yours. But if the home is securing a loan, the risk is not all yours, and lenders need to mitigate their risks. This doesn't seem very unreasonable, or am I misunderstanding your meaning?

Edit: I see the home insurance issue has already been addressed by others and I haven't added anything to the conversation

You might be ok with that risk, but they aren’t. And if you’re buying a home with their money, then it’s their risk.

This is the problem with the credit/debt based economy we currently live with. It sucks.

If you can’t buy it with cash, then you can’t afford it.

I hate insurance in all forms. Both insurance and debt go hand in hand and have allowed growth, expansion, and what some may call “progress” to go well beyond sustainable levels.

Start looking up how debt America is in and to whom and things get weird real quick. We owe more then we make.

I think the problem, from a lender's standpoint, is that no matter what you do to mitigate risk around your house, if you have a massive firestorm situation like happened in Pacific Palisades, nothing you did will help much.  In that case, entire neighborhoods burn down.  And that seems to happen to 1 or 2 large neighborhoods every year in California.

@MPJC

Agreed on something in the middle, whatever that may be, is better than what you have and us. The problem here is not all health insurance is created equal, and it is so damn convoluted - they make it so overwhelming and complex, people on the providing side, and patient side, both hate navigating it.

I'm lucky to have good insurance, and live where good doctors want to live.

For example - I had a grade 5 AC separation riding MTB. I was seen by doctor next day, surgery two days later, and my surgeon is excellent. My out of pocket costs were around $300.

Same Doctor did my ACL repair. Ironically I was wearing a brace I designed when I tore it haha, shit happens...

I design surgical instrumentation, did orthotics (knee braces used by a lot of moto folks), currently doing prosthetics, etc. Insurance industry drives a lot of this stuff, and many times devices are designed specifically around insurance billing codes...even if it reads antiquated and doesn't align with current protocol used by doctors. It's really frustrating. You aren't always the best device, you're making what maximizes billing potential...

1000003796

You bring up great points...If top professional athletes have issues with our system, we all have issues. Especially folks who are sick and need recurring care.

Very good points. And we are trending further down this hole.

Perhaps it became a thing because cost of everything is going up, and wages haven't kept pace.

You can 'buy now, pay later' with anything and everything now. We are programmed for instant gratification, and don't think about what we can actually afford.

You are right, I can't afford a home in CA. And on paper I make good money. I choose to rent and invest my money into myself, started a business, in the hopes it pays off for me down the line vs barely staying above water with a crazy high mortgage in a crappy condo that is built like shit in the middle of Irvine...I need to be next to Neature, or I will surely go crazy haha.
