Update on the kid’s KTM 250SX. 5 hours on it since the dealer fixed it. We are at Red Bull Day in the Dirt Out East. Bike runs fine Friday, go to start it Saturday morning for our race and it’s the same thing all over again. Won’t stay running. I feel bad, he spent a bunch of money on entry fees and now he has to race his pitbike against 250s. Back to the dealer!

Unacceptable.

Man, that’s just disheartening. I’d be typing my Marketplace ad for it on my way home from the dealership when it’s “fixed” again.

That’s the plan! I hope KTM stands behind it again.

Shitty position to be in as a seller.  If it was my bike as the seller I’d have to be honest about the history and that probably means taking a bath on it.

If they’re interested in a 23+ KTM FI Two Stroke they should already know what they’re getting into. The evidence in the inconsistencies of these bikes is abundant. I’d give them the dealers business card.

It sucks because he loves the bike.  His first bike he bought on his own.  I hope it gets fixed for good.

Did they ever change the voltage regulator? I have heard of that helping bikes that cut out.

It will try to start but wont catch.  They went all the way to Austria last time to figure it out.  He is taking it to the dealer on Thursday.

I have a buddy that has one and works for a dealer. I was looking in his toolbox at the track this weekend and he carries an extra relay, lol.

Update, the dealer checked the bike over and said it was bad gas.  We use the same non ethanol gas in all our bikes with no issues, including my 2023 Gas Gas 300 EX.  We'll see what happens now.

Did it seem like this issue was finally resolved? I've somewhat settled on at TC125 for my next bike, but am torn between a used '22 or a '23-25. The fuel injection would be kinda nice given the wide altitude and temperature swings the bike would see.

Not in our experience. Kid I know well (at Loretta's next week 125C and 250C Jr Lmtd) is on his 5th (!!!!!!!) TC125 because they don't fvcking work right. Every other one has been a lemon, and even the "good" ones were constantly having sensor issues that impacted the way they ran. They bought a brand new one last week before they left for LL in hopes they'd get one that works right long enough to race it, as the last one was intermittently cutting out at high RPM and he had lost all faith in it. I'll ask my son (his mechanic) how it's been working these last few days. The few 22s that were for sale around here got snatched up by other riders heading to LL. My engine guy (very well known) hates them.

Edit: My boy said that the latest TC125 they have (under 10 hours) has been fine, and his rider says it's the fastest 125 he's ridden yet. Recently been looking at the new 390 Adventure R, and have read that some are having issues with it shutting off for no known reason. Between KTM's financial issues and the outsourcing of parts/assembly to other areas, seems QC is suffering.

They definitely seem hit or miss but at least on mine the tsp erm was the hot ticket.  34 hrs no issues runs crispy.
