From RMD, an American eyewitness or two:

> He was getting passed just past the finish line, and the passing rider
> clipped his front wheel in a corner, knocking it out from under him.

Passing rider was Townley who ended up winning the moto. My son
saw it, he went for the inside and his back kicked up on a bump into
Short, taking out his front wheel. Aggressive move but probably
not intentional.

This is what I see. Short messes up the quad and table doubles it while Townley jumps it. Short goes wide in the corner before and Ben goes inside. Short jumped left side Townley jumped right side and their lines criss crossed going in to the next corner. There was a hook in the rut so it was at low speed (I would assume that's why Ben went inside, seeing it on the site lap). Short hit it and bounced out in to Ben who was well on the inside. How that is Ben's fault is beyond me. Short decided to take that shitty line, he payed the price when it kicked him out. It's not slot car racing you know.
totally what we saw with GP, Ben came faster with an easier line in that corner, both lines came together, BT got his wheel in front of Shorty.

Shorty is lucky this wasn't legends and American heroes like Bob Hannah or Damon Bradshaw, those 2 would have gone for the t-bone and not just a block-pass Smile

It's what's known the world over as a racing incident. Just like Marmont crashing when trying to pass Canard. Two lines come together and someone, either one or both, is going down. Shorty just happened to be the unfortunate one. Trey happened to be the fortunate one.

After that video i think it is clear that it wasnt that bad at all, thats racing!

And what is also clear in that video, is that Roczen hauls ass :-)

Ben had his feet on the pegs just cruising in to the corner. He didn't even charge in. I don't think either of them expected Short to bounce out of the rut that way.

Shorty didn't quad and then had some terrible lines thru the finish. Townley would have been a fool not to attempt a pass there, but it didn't look intentional at all.

Looking at the video it looked more like Shorty ran into Townley, just didn't see him...

I like that guy in the crowd when Roczen gets past.. 'holy shit' haha

That's how I see it.

Short's lines from the quad through the finish line were not good, even in the final moto. He did hit the quad in moto 3, but, he still went wide at the finish line almost every time. Not sure why, RD was taking the middle and BT and others were going inside.

Short was dead meat regardless. Aggressive pass but hardly a take out.

I'm sure most of the people here who race motocross understand. Or rather, people who remember what it was like in this sport before the last 5 years where its become a fucking capital offense to touch someone on a racetrack.

You put yourself in a vulnerable spot and you will be taken advantage of. Ben took advantage and by the time the inevitable outcome was evident it was too late for either to fix it. Shorty has never been th best at riding defensive.

If you hadn't been watching the GP's since Ken's arrival last year that was a "Hello American Motocross fans" moment. A lot of ignorant people ate crow when that happened.

The part that's funny is that Townley got down on Alessi over riding like that... Townley had a sit down with himself, Ping, Alessi, and Tony...

I have to think he did it on accident or got caught up in the moment. He strikes me as a good dude.
that is why i am say "turning out to be quite an asshole".

what do they call people that can dish it out but can't take it?

I bet ping would rip this kinda behavior a new asshole if it wasn't his rider.

so you saw hannah race a lot i take it?

and the whole deal i made of a "bit of an asshole" was meant to focus on the bitchy whiney ass reaction BT gives when he gets roughed up but then takes out short and doesn't flinch. who doesn't love a great block pass? just don't be a whiney bitch when it happens to you...

Yep, both on Honda's and I believe both are sponsored by Red Bull also...

I think he just got fired up that Roczen passed him on a 250F and just went ape-shit to try to get him back and didn't care who he put down. Doesn't look like he was even looking at Short during that take-out (looked like he was focused on Roczen),just looked like it was a bone head move to me and BT is lucky he didn't go down himself.

I would not say letting off the gas and getting in front of the next guy a bone head move.

These guy are competitive races and backing off and letting the other guy say up front is way down the list of priorities.

Of course you wouldn't say that....just look where you are from. Wink
If your country was in contention for the over all win and Short did that to Ben,you would be calling foul. Wink

I have hesitated to comment on this incident until I watched the race replay. When Short went down, I wasnt sure I could believe my eyes, see, I was standing at the end of that straight and was looking right at them both when it happened. Both riders came into that corner together with BT on the INSIDE. Bens whole bike drifted about 3 inches to the right and since they were so close together, their tires touched. As far as I know, when two riders come into a corner like that, and the guy on the outside falls down, its the guy on the outsides fault he fell, he could have backed off. Not only was that NOT a BS or pussy move, but those here baggin on Townley are simply wrong. Now Townley bitchin about it happening to him is another story, I'm just commenting on the MXoN incident.

I thought it was going to look cleaner than that... it looked to me like BT knew he was going to at least hit shorty. It wasn't a straight up t bone... but it was in no way clean. Roczen took the same line short did, looked like it was the main line, and BT aimed for where that line went to. I don't think he was thinking "i'm about to clean shorty out..." but he at least knew there was going to be contact or pushing him over the rut

What made me sick about the whole thing...there was a guy standing in the corner screeming, "F*CK YOU TOWNLEY" every lap after that. Pretty soon, I saw his probably 8 year old son standing next to him on a chair screeming the same thing! NOT COOL

RC puts the same type of move on Stewart here 2 corners in a row, difference is, Stewart didn't bounce out of the rut and have momentum pushing him inside and he knew RC was there.
