Washougal MX Step-Up Double

I spent Friday July 4th and Saturday July 5th at Washougal MX riding practice and racing with friends.

There is a pretty interesting update to the southern-most section of the track next to the old starting gate. The old starting gate is gone and a new step-up double has been added into the existing section of the track. It will be interesting to see how that section shapes up for the pro race in a few weeks.

From the 40+ moto on Saturday:

That looks badass. I’d like to get a side view of it for scale. The worst thing they ever did was get rid of the Chuck Sun table top along with Catcher’s Mitt and Leeches Lump. That was my favorite section of the track as a rider and spectator. Damn them.

Couldn’t agree more. I was extremely bummed after a long time away when I went there and saw the section that replaced all that.

I remember back in about 90/91 my buddy and I went there for a Saturday/Sunday practice day. We were walking around the edge of the track before we rode it. They were running the track backwards this day. In that same spot going the other direction there was a step down. We were staring at it and wondering if we would do it. Just then a kid on 65 Kawi goes by us and down it no problem. We just looked at each other and said nothing.

It wasn't even half that size.

Huh, interesting.

So they route the track down the hill to the mid 1990's old starting line(not the old 1980's starting line) and then with speed bring you up and out over that step-up?

Looks sano, might open things up for a passing area?

The Chuck Sun jump was badass....dudes getting flat over that was a huge highlight.  It was a sin to get rid of it at the national....

Looks big, nice work!  But are we calling any double where the landing is taller than the take off a step up now?  Or is it legitimately uphill and the camera just can't portray that?

I called a meeting of the minds in our pits after one buddy called it a triple.  I said "Nope! That triple BS has to stop right away". 😂

By all rights it's a step-up that looks and feels like a big double from the rider perspective.
It's relatively low consequence for the level of rider who should be jumping stuff like that.

It's a significant gain in height (probably ten to twelve feet) but the GoPro makes it look very flat.
One buddy walked it off and counted close to 120 feet depending on where you land.  I told him it felt like 90 feet to me.

A buddy sent a video clip, from the bleachers; here's a blurry screenshot.

Well found the first track feature I won’t be doing. Haha. Nice job. You made it look easy.

Think I could clear it on my YZ250?

That vid is an FC250 so yes if you are light and fast enough.

Yeah, he's fast. And this was end of the day on a beat-up track, still running 2:23 on the full layout.

Local fast kid Jax Lang was doing it on his 85 as was another ripper on a supermini.

Epic shot. It was such a sick jump. It was like it was constructed for getting flat. Also, you could hit it pinned on any size bike and still not overshoot the landing. Basically could hit it as fast as you please. And then fly in to Catcher’s Mitt going Mach 3 and rail it.
