Fix for knee pain????? Maybe........

I see lots of threads about knee pain and also have suffered from it myself. I've pretty much been bone on bone for the past ten years, have had a bad limp for at least the last five years and have been getting ready to get a new knee. For the past two years I have been getting cortisone shots quarterly to ease the constant pain. There have been times when the only time I was without pain in my knee was when I was riding my bike.

Not that I've established my bona fides in the jacked-up knee department (lol) I'll tell you what changed. For the past 6 months I've been taking turmeric and using Rogue nicotine pouches. About 2 months ago someone at work said to me that I didn't seem to be limping and I started to realize that the pain was significantly diminished, and I was walking like a normal human being. I'm in no way, shape, or form saying that I'm healed but there is a marked improvement in my quality of life.

I didn't take the nicotine with the thought of it helping me with arthritis, I just liked the kick of energy. After realizing that I was feeling better I decided to figure out why. According to ChatGPT nicotine activates the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway and reduces swelling. They also state that it helps preventing dementia and Alzheimer's. Smoking bad, nicotine good.

Me feeling better may have nothing to do with the turmeric or the nicotine but for any of you struggling with joint pain what's the risk?

***Bonus: I also throw a nicotine pouch in when I ride or race and it keeps my mouth from drying out. One track we race at has very fine silica dirt and I would have a sore throat for 3 or 4 days after racing, now I'm fine.

Could also try exercises from "knees over toes guy" on youtube. He has helped a tonne of hikers with sore knees, and helped a lot avoid surgery

I have followed his stuff a bit, but I need to step it up. I truly feel like a dork walking backwards though.  lol

Walking backwards on a beach makes it slightly less dorky. I would try almost anything to eliminate knee pain so no problem for me

Walking backwards and forward on treadmill without turning it on “deadmill” 15 minutes each direction, several times a week worked for me

The walking backwards on the deadmill is something the Knees Over Toes Guy is a proponent of. I plan on mixing that in even though it is painfully boring. lol

I am 71 and had my meniscus removed at 19. I have been Bone on Bone for 50 years and found a couple things that help. I ride MTB 2-4 days a week and dirt bikes 1-2 times a week.

I take https://www.osteobiflex.com/ to lube the joints and BPC-157 for Arthritis and any Joint pain. It is pretty much a miricale drug and helps a lot. I inject it where needed but they do make it in pills too.

Nicotine is a very powerful chemical that affects the central nervous system (good and bad). Like a lot of things, there are likely benefits in moderate usage that could become a problem if over used.

Nicotine has been used as a pesticide since the 1600s because of its efficacy as a neurotoxin against insects. It would take a LOT of nicotine to produce the same result in humans, though.
