Dilan Schwartz is another underdog who delivered great results yesterday. Started 20th in Moto 1 and worked his way to 9th, and delivered his patented 30th place start in Moto 2 to finish 13th for 9th overall. The names that guy passes on a weekly basis should make the better supported teams take notice.
Zzzz, all you have is shit talk clown. Still waiting to hear how fitness is the only determining factor in motocross dummy.
Nobody said it was the only, just an important factor in overall results. Relax…
That was the best part of the race. The kid was flying.
I didn’t know him personally, but like Hicks around here, everyone’s got an opinion.
Their opinions are the kids just aren’t serious enough or don’t value racing enough to do more
A mechanic of Lance’s was texting a person I know talking shit about his dad and the family, claiming Lance didn’t have the heart or ambition for it. Thing is, that guy was still working for them — go figure.
It’s a story that plays out over and over in this sport. It’s brutal. Parents like me are tough on their kids. Some of those kids just don’t have the fire. They might have speed, talent, even flashes of greatness — but not the full package to go all the way.
My own example of does a rider have it:
We went to Gary Bailey’s for what was supposed to be a few days of training. Gary had him working a tough section — a corner that dropped right into a dragon’s back. It had rained, his front tire slipped across the face, and he went down hard. Hurt his shoulder.
We ended up at a hospital in Martinsville, Virginia. Gary, in that way he has, said something simple:
“Go in the bathroom, try a push-up on the sink. If you can do it, see you tomorrow.”
He went in. Came back out. Looked at Gary and said, “I can’t.”
Maybe he physically couldn’t. Or maybe Gary was testing his race character, his mental grit.
Either way, he didn’t have it.
No shame in that. No disrespect from me as his dad.
Maybe he just wanted to be a regular kid. But that ride home to Illinois was quiet. I knew it was over.
He didn’t have it. And maybe didn’t want it?
Meanwhile, you’ve got Joe Shimoda riding almost an entire season with a broken hand — launching out of the gate, fighting for every inch. That’s the difference.
So hey, Lance — those two laps were the best part of the race. You looked great. But it might end up as one of those memories of what could’ve been.
Damn, though — for those two laps, you were better than any of the rest out there. As a dad I’d be prouder of those two laps and the greatest salutes I’ve ever seen in this sport
It was definitely cool, of course that's not his moto speed right now, but it was 125% of what he's got, and he led a few laps for it, He'll remember that forever.
That’s quite literally what he said, I’m just matching the energy he’s giving and dying to hear how fitness is in fact per him the only determining factor in motocross.
No, you're acting like a know-it-all jackass.
“I've been in this game for over 40 yrs, have 7 national Championships as a mechanic and have worked in elite teams both in SA and the USA. Deegan only wins because of his fitness, the difference between privateers and factory riders is fitness and Lance Kobusch didn’t win yesterday because he doesn’t have the fitness” but I’m the know it all jackass got it.
It’s pretty pathetic that a bunch of fat old men who never rode a day in their life sit on this forum and insult professional riders work ethic. That’s exactly what you are doing insulting their work ethic saying they don’t have the fitness that’s why they aren’t winning. Lance Kobusch trains hard and works his fucking ass off as does every guy who touched that track this weekend. Theres so much that goes into this sport physically and mentally that you can control and then there’s things like talent that you cannot. Speed is a gift it’s something you can improve but everyone has different floors and ceilings they can achieve. Deegan and Jett do not dominate because they are the fittest guys on the track that’s an idiotic thought they are dominating because they are PHENOMS and are once in a life time talents THAT ALSO WORK HARD.
I totally agree for the most part. Although, I don't know if he got arm pump, that will drop an anchor super quickly. I remember Jr Jackson leading I think Pontiac one year, and next thing he was on the ground. He was a super fast rider, but he couldn't put it together for a full race. It sometimes isn't fitness per say. Sometimes it's arm pump or both together. Only the rider can tell us what happened. I'd personally bet arm pump from the being up front. I know when I led races (amateur) I would stop breathing I think? Seemed like it, beca se all of a sudden I would be short on breath. And grip super hard on grips. Not sure why, my brain just couldn't let me control my body and relax.
Spun many a laps with Lance and drank many a beer with his old man. Made our little local group super proud and awesome to see him have fun and start to show his potential. Dude always had it, but didn't take it serious enough. Last few years he is and it shows.
Being up there like that will be a huge confidence booster. He sees he has a good pace and can build upon it. With him not being used to leading a pro national, I bet he barely thought to breathe he was so stoked!
Finally a rider has it figured out. You race to lead a lap or laps . Who cares where u finish. It doesn’t matter if u win or loose. It’s how good u look. And u look good leading. All the hype is at the beginning, perfect time to show u hv the speed. You where a mechanic if a rider with a small team was beating all your riders . Your whole team would freak on it. I,m sure his whole team is fired up . Good job man. He got 22nd in the 1st moto so he has endurance. I looked up where he lives just west of St. Louis, wait till it really heats up . I would expect to see him at the front again. Mo. Is nicknamed missoury 100+ & extreme humidity & dew point. You know riders on the gate where thinking how am I going to race in this heat. He’s thinking this heat is nothing. Supposed to b a record hot summer.
Pit Row
No photographers were shooting from the top of the hill to get this photo of Lance??
It would be great to have that shot in HD.!
Didn’t the telecast say he blew his bike up?
I’m still uncertain if Lance faded or fell? Also, is he still training at Reynard’s?
I think he crashed not too long after leading.
Those two laps were highlight of race. Hope he gets boost from those laps.
If you watch, towards the end of his time leading the pack was bunching up behind him. That's when Deegs looks like he said: "This was cool, but I got places to go." Once he passed him he checked out which if you think about it, that was a cool move by Deegs. Not sure if they are friends or not but it was cool to let the guy have his moment. The whole 2 laps were epic, first Kobush throwing the number one and then Deegs doing it back and the looking at each other over jumps.
*****3 downvotes? Weird, what in my post was negative? Some of you guys are weird.
He lives in TX now, I'm pretty sure, and trains at Rafter MX, which is on the Smith Pro Rodeo Ranch (east of Dallas).
Got the heavy early Darrin Durham vibes from High Point from that ordeal
Gage Schehr
da300, let's move on..we are both right in a way. I'm not here to make enemies. Ya good with that?
Boomslang has likely forgotten more about moto than you'll ever know.
