Would much prefer a feature to block a user or block entire threads.

No interest to me?  block it off- it disappears.

Cant stand the guy? Block him- his posts aren’t visible to me..

I think getting rid of the downvotes would solve a lot. Disagree with someone? Fine post your say or move on

Some of the people here can’t even handle someone having a different opinion, imagine what they’d be like if they could see who downvoted them.
Personally if someone is genuinely dismayed or confused by why they were downvoted, and I did, I don’t mind admitting it and giving them the reason why.
About the only thing that annoys me is when you pose a question and people downvote but don’t offer an answer. Even then it’s no big deal.

This.. hide user feature would be the best, there are some people here that just seem to derail and ruin threads constantly.

Hide user not like “this post is hidden” they should be completely invisible

Unfortunately “hidden due to downvotes” makes me click to see what shit is hidden

Most of the nonsense was created when Gibby wanted to be more like facebook and have the up and down votes, which unfortunately turned the forum into a grade school playground. That is what stopped the normal engagement of members quoting each other and actually driving a conversation. Sure there were heated moments that derailed a thread, which were entertaining mostly, but … call it silly, that’s where the bears came from and we would self regulate the forum amongst ourselves for the most part. Now everyone is fascinated with downvotes and hiding from other thoughts and ideas because they are too scary!

I’ve never wanted to see a thread hidden due to down votes as much as I want to see this thread hidden due to downvotes.. it’s not a bad thread, but the irony potential off the charts!

Forum police?  Really?

Not only is it the stupidest feature of all time, it's the most pointless in that  - just as Stewie points out - it makes it even more likely people will click on the 'offending' thread.

Punt this cunt of a feature.

I am not a fan of using 'disappearing' or 'banning' to control speech or content you don't like. If you don't like something either don't read it or provide an argument to counter it. As for derailing threads, if you want to get the thread back on track just start posting new content that returns the thread to its original point. Threads are always changing and moving around from subject to subject and back again. It makes the threads more interesting.

It's horrific and interesting to note how much of the political polarization and self-harm and so on caused by social media can be attributed to the launch of the like button by Facebook in 2009.

“If you don’t like something don’t read it”

May possibly be the stupidest comment on the forum today!

How do you know you don’t like something until youve read it??🙄

I just want to block the dickheads who contribute very little but try to start arguments.
People who think one race result “settles the US Vs MXGP argument”

People who call Cooper Webb ‘Paul’ and those who can only contribute ‘dumbgeon is getting a new post soon’.

I would understand the outrage if you couldn’t just see the thread anyway with one click

Blocking people you don't like sure will help us live together IRL.

I’m confident in saying that IRL you have some people you don’t like or don’t get along with? Or there are people who don’t like you?? Or simply groups that don’t fit your ideals so you stay away from them?

Do you go to the bar with them? Or go to another bar? Or sit at another table?

Why is it any different making moves to avoid certain people online than it is IRL??🤷‍♀️

I just don't feel a forum should be a gated community.

It's another dumb feature to generate more clicks.

1000% not what it was designed for, it doesn't create more traffic. Even if a couple of threads got 10% more views, it would be basically unnoticeable in terms of total traffic numbers.

If you wanted to have a little bit of profitable fun with that feature.

Once a post get's flagged from down votes.

It could be set-up with a content locker type script.

Basically it would be locked. To be able to access it the users would have to fill out - for instance something like your survey or another type offer to unlock the thread to be able to see it themselves.  So if you were an ad network affiliate and you put up an offer that let's say paid you $5 per lead. If 200 people filled it out.  That would be $1,000.  If your Dev team was bored it's something they could play with to try to test and implement.  Just an idea,

Also on a  side note. I've also seen this done on some places with banned accounts. They make them earn their way back in by filling out an offer every day for 30/60/90 days. ect.. Once they complete that then they are un-banned.
