Had quite a few chats with Myke about all things vintage moto and bmx. He was really good people, and will be missed by many. Condolences to his family and friends. Rest easy Myke.

Oh man! I saw that in my feed but didn't know he was on Vital. Ride safe, friends.

RIP Myke.

Long time member passed away on Monday.  He wadded up on his mountain bike in San Diego. Myke was really cool, moved out here from back east and was living a great life. Gone way too soon.

People have mentioned “riding alone” and “Full face helmets”

I ride alone often. Regularly in the dark desert.
I use an Apple Watch which I hope will detect a fall (but thinking about it, it didn’t seem to on my last big crash. Maybe I was moving enough/soon enough for it to know I was conscious)

I also use Strava Beacon. So someone knows where I am. If I’m missed.

After trying a few brands, I’ve found TLD “stages” FF helmet to be lightweight and well vented. So light weight it is not rated for DH racing. I wear it every time. And it’s often very hot where I ride.

I’m a year older than Myke, and though I don’t know him, I do know he’ll be missed.

Something that is easily overlooked in these situations and I mention it because I've seen it multiple times in the mtb hills. Internally, things can expire in this age range.

We may never know what exactly happened to Myke, but something tells me he knew his limits on 2 wheels.

Cherish your rides at this age, we just never know when it all ends, but we do know we're not going to stop!

RIP Myke
