Bring a ladder .. Ironman is a compact venue & most all of the best viewing area(s) will be reserved for $1000 - $2000 VIP admissions.
They'll likely have more than double the attendance of a typical national, been there many times & It'll be interesting to see where they think they're going to put everyone ?            

Think Ernee , but with mediocre food. 



 

Was gonna go until an RV rental, site to park it, admission, pits, food etc, etc etc was going to run over $2000 for 4 days,,,,,,,,, I’m out

I just booked in High Point campground, VIP and a ticket for my wife to sit at the RV with our dog.

We’re riding in and staying in a cabin 20 miles away. Been to Ironman twice and to both red bud MXONs. It will be interesting with that number of people.  I remember in certain spots at red bud we had to move with the crowd, no other option. 

Can’t wait!! 

We haven’t had a non mudder in the US for the MXoN since 2010 right? So lame. Hope this year is different. 

6 of us coming over from UK, we're undecided on where to stay. I suggested a glamping tent at the track, but some of the others would rather stay in Indy. 

Which is the area we would want to be staying and going out on the lash in? How much would a taxi likely cost from Indy to the track?

Cab won't be an option. No matter where you stay you'll be better off just renting a car. Even if you camp and stay at track there's not going to be many viable options from airport to the track and back. If you're looking to go out at night you'll want to stay downtown. 

The western suburbs of Indy are still 30 to 40 miles away, so I would think it would be fairly expensive for an uber or something like that.  Maybe $75 to $100 each way depending on demand...  Maybe some people on this forum could carpool (I would if I had room).  You might check other smaller towns nearby for hotels too.  We are staying in Danville Illinois, which is like 45 minutes west of the track (I am not looking for night life or anything).  I got a Best Western for like $110 per night for 2 queen beds.  That was like a month ago though. 

We are hiring a car, but we're from England so we like a drink and I'm not sure that the guy with the keys will take it easy. That's why the pre-installed tents might be a good idea for us, although if it pisses down it may be a bit of a miserable carry on.

In time what sort of a journey is downtown to and from the track likely to be? 1-1.5hr

We want some kind of nightlife, decent bars, restaurants, although I personally couldn't give a shit about night clubs and that sort of thing.

Downtown to Crawfordsville about an hour.  The last mile or two to the track might be just as long though.

I’d build a night out into your trip rather than try to go out downtown on the nights of the event. The track to the city is a long way, you’ll really only do it if someone is designated driver. Take it from a fellow Brit :-)
