We took a trip to Hawaii earlier this month.

Banyon trees were everywhere.

Are those…..?

Also, Joey which Island(s)? I went to the big island last year and it was pretty freaking amazing. However, Kauai remains my favorite place on earth.

EVH4Ever, Ticks. Picked up 2 yesterday and one today. Also starting to see rattlesnakes on the trails now that it's warming up. Saw a mountain lion out there a couple months ago. Coyotes are common, as are deer, bobcats, squirrels, road runners, hawks, tarantulas, tarantula hawks (those gnarly orange wasp looking things) We see all kinds of critters , but I HATE ticks. Creepy little fuckers that drill into your skin and suck your blood like a miniature oil rig. And they carry diseases, I don't mind the snakes and bugs and even the mountain lions, but fuck ticks...

stroll through any lush knee high grass near the river here with your dog for 50 yards and you will pull a half dozen ticks off your pant legs and at least a dozen off your dog.

The routine is when the dog and i go for a nature walk is to flip the tailgate down on the pickup when we get done with a walk and roll her around using an old hair comb to expose them. Maybe do it again in the yard when we get home. And yes, we do use the tick treatment for dogs too, treating her once a month during tick season which just started a few weeks ago.

I pluck all of them off me at the trailhead and then when I get home I strip and give myself a thorough look over. Still, later that night while laying in bed in the middle of the night feel one walking across my forehead or somewhere on my body.

How do you guys yank ticks off if they’ve drilled in already ? I’ve been told “You can’t pull them out because the head will break off and then they’ll regrow a new body or get infected”  I’ve heard burn em out with a match and they back themselves out, or pour baby oil on them and try to drown them. I don’t have the patience for either of those methods. I get a paper towel for grip and yank them out. If the head breaks off I’ll dig it out with fingernail clippers fuck those things

Knife or credit card or something like that, scrape under body and kind of pop them out. You want to avoid squeezing them, can inject the diseased blood and saliva back into yourself. I also have viscous lidocaine that you can cover them in to kill them and they come out much easier. Lidocaine is very handy if you ever get roach or another bug in your ear too. If you feel like there's something left behind just treat it like splinter and pull it out with tweezers. Decently strong tape can work sometimes as well.

I get them constantly. Usually not much risk unless they're on for a while. That's why the dog medicine works, kills them before they've been on long enough to give much risk of disease. I end up taking doxycycline once or twice a summer if I develop rash around the site.

Ok I’m changing my tick removal method. Don’t squeeze the diseased blood and saliva back into yourself. I just dry heaved 🤮😳😂 I really hate those things lol

I wonder how well these work for tick removal? I’ve never used one but look like they might do the trick.

Just finished work and grabbed the MTB gear Tupperware container and saw this guy. Faaawwwk ! Might try somewhere else besides the dog park. I’ve brought home ticks 3 rides in a row out there.  And it’s not like I was bushwhacking, there’s a couple semi overgrown spots, but I was going like 15 through there and barely touching them. They must be thick right now.
