Just depends on the upper fork tube size...I know the 97 -07 fork size is the same, you might need new triple clamps (upper & lower)

97-07 showa's won't work with your stock bottom clamps. The forks are 1mm smaller than the stock KYB forks. I put the newer showas on my 96 using 95 lower clamps. The forks are 1mm too big for the 95 clamps so you can machine by removing .5mm around to fit. The top clamp fits perfect. You will get a slightly different geometry from them because the axle carriers have a slightly different off set.

I messed around with a cr125 around this age, Fitting newer forks etc,
I had to get the steering stem milled so it may not be the same thing,
HOWEVER.
Check your geometry linkage etc. , mine seemed fine but in then it would kick up from jumps unexpectedly...
never figured it out sold it on with a warning to the purchaser, who then broke his leg.
take care.

Did you have to do anything to the clamps to get them to fit or did they slide right in?

The '96 and up CR250 clamps will accept any Showa CR/CRF forks up to '08.

I forgot to mention, you'll need the axle, left wheel spacer and brake caliper bracket from the newer forks/bike to complete the install if you use 04-up forks. I'm not sure about the earlier showas
