I'm just trying to figure out what the big deal is a group of officials had a group chat that accidentally added a journalist from the Atlantic.

The journalist kept quite and just looked at what was being texted instead of removing himself. An im ok with that. If I was him I would have done the same. I'm nosy as fuck when I want to be.

Basic discussion about things that were publicly discussed were discussed along with asking for each person's poc for the matter when relaying pertinent information and again some more general haggling of opinions on again a publicly discussed matter of us going in and opening the passage back up.

So while said strike was being carried out 2hrs before it finished they discussed what was going on, how it was happening and what arms were being used. Then said jurno opted out and started asking them questions individually.

I just don't see the big big on this one. It's not like when our media and govement was leaking out info days in advance of strikes in Gaza, Iran and was is Syria or Lebanon i don't remebr of the the top of my head.

Idk I get it being some kind of deal just not being a big deal. On 1-10 I'm giving it a 3.5 worth looking into to make sure it doesn't happen again but not worth the full blown overreaction were getting.

Just for clarity, the messaging about the strikes was 2 hours before they started, not 2 hours before they were finished.

And I think I heard that one of the people in the chat was in Russia at the time?  How secure could that be to use for this type of messaging?

The only defenses in here of this insane fuck up are whataboutisms. Which tells everyone all they need to know. It’s a huge deal and if the only defense is point at other things, they know it’s bad.

It's definitely an indication of folks in positions that they are not competent to serve in.  Where the fuck is Doge?  We were lucky this time.  These kinda fuckups get people killed.  It's not a fucking joke to our boys with their ass hanging out.

That messaging app signal they used... It's used by tons of folks in the Gov.  Trump is having it all looked into - because it's possibly a very wide spread issue at all levels of the fed gov.

It's double end encryption. But people can still exploit it.  Nothing is ever 100% secure. Where there's knowledge & will there's a way.  That app is open source meaning that everyone has access to the code and can duplicate it ect..  . Meaning they can play with it and find exploits to compromise convos ect.  But people also find security holes and get them patched - this being a good reason to release open source stuff , even stuff like forum software. Open source has helped make the net more secure in a lot of ways.

But in all reality humans are easier to exploit than most software is. So tricking them or phishing them is where a lot of concerns should be - that is how most folks get compromised.

Hey, the proof is in the pudding.  All I see from all your accounts is quoting others to be their minion "yes man" or telling everyone who isn't right-wing that they have TDS.   Branch out a little, ride a bike, read a book or something. 🙂

Are you talking about the time I called out Jimmy (whatever his user name is today) for trying to post my personal information because he didn't like what I had to say on a motorcycle forum?  I even said he got my name right and did that here, for all of you to see, no teachers involved.

What else do you want to bring up that you're wrong about? Some of you are so offended by people who have a spine, better to stay in your safe space and just quote the posts from your idols saying "ya, I woulda said that same thing too buddy".👨‍❤️‍👨

Seems it was Mike Waltz who was the one that added the journalist to the chat. Claims it was an accident and he's never talked with the journalist.

Mole problem?

They could go the Democrat route, and throw a few billion at a government only message app, which most likely wouldn't work well 🙂

I don't care about bombing the Houthis, they've been acting like assholes for too long.

It's the sloppiness of using a 3rd party app to skirt FOIA records and likely security breaches.

The memo commissions an investigation into the leaks to write a report to be presented to the the Secretary of Defense. We can just DOGE this shit and save a bunch of time and money if Pete would be honest about the whole thing, he and all the other top Whitehouse brass were on the leaked conversation!

Depends on the auto delete settings of that signal group and if the messages are backed up to government servers. You don't have to destroy or hide records of there are no records.

Also depends on the carrier's retention policy too. Deleting from the app is not a guarantee the message is gone for good.

Maybe they should take Hillary's route and use emails? 😁😁

Yep - Anything deleted will go to free space and can be easy to still recover ,unless they wipe the free space. Meaning override it with with a bunch of large bogus files hundreds of times over and over.

Also data tanks archive everything - all communications online.  But the problem is that, that stuff collected doesn't fall under FOIA.

Wouldn't they be available to FOIA, since they would be matters of public records? If the data lake still has them of course (wink, wink).

If one really wants to avoid FOIA they'd meet at some hotel that wouldn't attract attention, and have a no electronic devices talk, right? Then if anyone spoke about it later it would just be a matter of heresay.

Then 6 months later someone from H. Clinton's Cleaning Service 'discovers' their lifeless body after a 'suicide'.

Are you talking about locally or on the signal servers? All the communications are encrypted so at minimum it would require a warrant, by that would be damn hard to prove relevant, unless the laws change or the company is motivated to decrypt for reasons.

Wouldn't public records be different legally? Government use of messaging apps should be a matter of public records, even from a private device it it is government related.

I believe some who work in the financial sector have to use a work phone, can only conduct business related communication via that phone, and the retention is 7 years. That's just for FTC regulations I think. I might be a little off on that but it's something to that effect.

I'm talking about all the NSA data tanks.  I cant make a foia request for lets say FB Messenger chat between 2 people.  There's privacy laws. Same standard for everything they collect under the program unless a judge approves a subpoena/warrant for that chat log, they cant release it.  Even if they are gov officials. The people that handle the foia requests even at the NSA it self don't have access to prism. Mainly just SSO division and analysts.and certain contractors

Yep taking out the digital element - improves their security greatly as long as nobody hid a cam in the hotel.

Gov officials will use burners and fake names  also to avoid foia.

If Biden would've done this, the republicans would've started an impeachment process because that old fool with dementia invited people without the needed safety clearance into a private online conversation. Not to mention that they use signal. But some people are so deep in the rabbit hole that, what Trump once said is completely true; he says it so nicely himself.

Now it was a decent journalist who didn't used it, because he wasn't out on harming the USA (the nation) and the people who take the risks (military).

It does not matter what he does or says. They will defend it and support it. If he said he’s suspending elections and remaining in power, they’d agree with it. If he ran for a third term, they’d support him. It’s sad.

So according to you two, this issue, which is already being addressed, is worse than the Democrat party and the Biden administration's hiding of Biden's obvious mental decline?

That Trump should be impeached for something he wasn't aware of at the time?

Y'all should keep up with the Trump cult ramblings. It makes you both sound highly intelligent.

Was this worse than Bengazi where Americans were left behind to fend for themselves?

Was it worse than biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan where 13 Americans lost their lives?

Is it worse than burning out cities?

Is this worse than fire bombing Tesla dealerships?

Is this worse than opening our borders and letting criminals in to rape and kill?

Is this worse than forced vaccinations?

It’s funny what you focus on.

Let’s put things in perspective. At least you’re not bitching about the cost of eggs.

Come on.....

The lengths some of you go to to defend anything and everything Trump and his lackeys do is just sad..... just because other people did similar stupid things doesn't mean the thing your guy did isn't bad. It doesn't have to be catastrophically bad to be bad. Nothing about this is good. You should be able to say that without it being TDS or hearing about the Clinton's server..... FFS just be honest admit your lord and savior Donald Trump and his disciples did something wrong..... doth protest too much, methinks...... it's almost like deep down you know it's a clown show and you're afraid to acknowledge even the most obvious flaws because then the dam might break.....

Since the Admin said none of it was classified the Atlantic released the thread. 1 week delete settings, Jeffrey Goldberg was added by Mike Waltz himself.

It seems many of those people new in important roles act without the adequate seriousness or professionalism. Breaking duty of care and not spending a second thought before making far reaching decisions.

It is common sense and a basic rule of corporate cybersecurity to check who's part of professional group chats before sharing any information, no matter how sensitive you think the information is.

I'd go so far as to say that these folks believe that THEY are more important than the deadly serious duty they swore to.  Idgaf that some fuckwit from the other "side" has done as bad or worse.  That ain't the goddamn point is it?

This is a pretty big fuck-up and some of you guys just can’t acknowledge it, lol. The same ones that throw “TDS” around will see something like this and somehow claim it’s no big deal, even though it is, and you know that if this happened under Biden you’d be singing a different tune.

Trump ‘28!!!

The fact that you still don't understand that people are mocking republicans about the price of eggs says a lot.

And when the only defense you have for your incompetent leadership being incompetent is whataboutism.. well that says even more.

You may not know this but Biden is no longer the president, may want to seek help for your BDS.
