At the halfway point, he looked over at his mechanic and gave the thumbs-up. I think that was his way of saying, "Here I go". When he passed Canard, he gave him a little wave.
Dude was pumped after finish, too!
Canard pulled 22 points from CP yesterday. Maybe Trey should have given Pourcel a little wave when he got in the rental car and left the track for the airport. But Trey Canard isn't that kind of guy.
Pourcel is exciting. Be happy about that.
Trey also rolled over to him after the finish line to congratulate him.
After losing over half his points lead, I think Christophe Pourcel was just a little motivated in moto two.

They ran out of the best tee shirts by noon. Thanks, I was in the pits until then. Speaking of shirts, nobody sells them but the track? They are missing out on so much money if the actual teams would sell them, I would have bought a Geico or Honda Red Bull shirt, but there aren't any available. People are always bitching about sponsorship money, there is a ton of revenue for sponsors available in T shirt sales. I can buy shirts from local drag racers, but I can't buy one from a National MX event? It would be a great way to help offset the cost of those big, shiney trailers. No maufacturers midway? I was looking to buy tires and my friend was looking for a pipe for his bike. We were told there would be a ton of this stuff there. There was nothing, unless I missed it. I don't know how I could of. So that's what I'm talking about. I have been to different forms of racing all over the country, I just expected a little more. I thought the racing and people were awesome. Go watch a NHRA race in Norwalk Ohio and let me know what you think. I think you be suprised. It isn't hard to improve on a ton of stuff at the track. Next year I will know what to expect and will be prepared for it.
I also felt that having the pits open from 9-noon didn't make sense as that is when practice is going on and the pits are generally empty, however after spending the day with the GEICO- Factory Connection Team, I don't see any other way to do it as there is a hell of a lot more going on behind the scenes than I would have imagined with very little down time during the day.
1) Lappers were in the way like crazy. Canard couldnt catch a break from the lappers, they were constantly in the way. And after watching the 1st moto on the allisports I saw it was bad then too. Didnt realize how bad it was 1st moto when I was at the track.
2) Pourcel did 3-4 laps in the 1st moto. He had plenty of energy to race after not even doing 1/4 of moto 1.
3) It's Pourcel's best track; there's no denying that after watching him take the boys to the woodshead and beat 'em last year(including Dungey). He just knows how to find his way around the GP-style track of Unadilla.
4) Canard rode HARD that whole 1st moto. From tracking down Barcia to being pushed by Wharton. He wasn't able to conserve energy at all racing the 1st moto. Had he been able to save energy he might have held Pourcel off for the last lap and 1/4...i didnt see where Pourcel got by him.
THe first 2 are IMO the biggest contributors to Pourcel's moto 2 victory though.
I also liked seeing Pourcel being so friendly with Canards mom on the podium after the race. They seemed like they had a genuine like for one another. Momma Canard just seems like a great lady in general though.
Pit Row
Imagine if the roles were reversed. Canard coming from 8 place, posting the fastest lap and make the pass for the lead at the last lap. You guys would be calling him iron man, especially after highsiding 4th gear wideopen and destroying the bike in moto 1 and yet line up for moto 2.
I would rather ride a 30 min moto as warmup for moto 2 then take a big crash and being on painkillers.
He also threw a thumbs up to his mechanic at about the halfway point while he was grabbing a tear off. It kind of looked like he was saying, "Okay, here I go!"
What a ride. I just watched the moto. Unreal. One of the best motos in a long time.
Both almost threw it away coming out of screw you.
Pourcel was definitely finding better lines in that moto.
Both of those 250 motos were excellent races to watch.
