I found a fairly nice 1984 CR250 locally. DG pipe/silence.

Were these bikes any good? I know the 86-89 bikes were pretty nice, but I can't remember how the 84 performed.

Any help would be great.

Wasn't the 84 CR250 prone to piston failures? Fast bike but reliability was an issue if I recall correctly.

I had an 84, loved it although I did go through a few clutches. Also remember having to clean the ATAC frequently.

They were fast but they went through pistons like crazy.

Looking forward to you joining the EVO class.

I have a 1984 CR 250. Very Fast. Turns exceptionally well.

Will you be coming to the SEVMX/FLVMX race on Oct. 3rd?

Have you ridden the new Lake City Track? I really loved the old one, but I love sand tracks. I heard the new track is a lot of clay and not much sand.

From my understanding there was an problem with the piston ring locator pin location when the bikes were first released. An updated piston remedied the problem.
On the 80's cr's the magnesium water pump cover has a corrosion problem. Be sure to check that on the bikes you are looking at.

1984 is an orphan year for the water pump case. All other year CR's you can get an aluminum water pump case and the problem is solved.
The 1985 through 1989 are especially easy to fix, parts available right from Honda.

I only asked about the 84 because I practically tripped over it. I have an 89 that needs all the pump stuff replaced. I have no idea where to get the parts, and even though koolstrike says honda has them I haven't seen them available. Some perhaps, but not all.

I really don't even want a 250, but if I found a good 86 I'd probably jump on it.

is the 1989 Honda CR250 water pump case part number. All the online retailers that sell Honda part show that part number as "available". 3 weeks ago I order the part from my local dealer and in it came 5 days later.

This place sells Honda parts online.

In looking at the 1989 CR250 fiche all the internal parts appear to be available.

Not sure where you are looking.

Check with Russel Brown, out of Australia. I don't have the web URL handy, but you can probably look him up on Facebook. He makes aluminum covers for most of the '80's Honda CR's.
