Quick comfort snacks

Edited Date/Time 3/14/2025 11:44pm

It's 08h32 Saturday morning. The missus has taken the two girls to figure skating lessons and I'm chilling here feeling a bit hungry.

Normally I'd do bacon, eggs and toast if the family were here. I aint doing that for myself...to much work and cleaning dishes for a few eggs and some bacon.

There are plenty of options but nothing has grabbed me. I chowed some mixeds nuts now but i'm still not satisfied.

A barbaqued steak, pepper sauce, spuds, corn on the cob and a salad is what I feel like (right now) but it's way to early.

I'm gonna hit my normal quick plug the gap chow. Two slices of honey and oats toast with generous topping of cheese.

Edit - if there is a similar existing topic on go to snacks and chow then I apologize.

I bought one of those cheap 'Egg Boiler' machines.

Just so easy now to pop it on the work bench, put a bit of water - prob, only 75ml, you get a little measuring cup with it - pierce one end with the pin in the bottom of the cup, and in about 4 minutes, Boiled  - well, Cooked, Eggs!

Doesn't sound like much, but I've always 'popped' eggs  when boiling them, making a mess of things, no matter what I do.

This little $19.95 machine, is a revelation for this Bear.

Cook 'em, then burn the heck out of my finger tips 'unpeeling' them, as I'm too bloody impatient to wait for the Googs to cool.

About to do 4 of the little Chook Bum Nuggets, just before the EMX250 race in Spain 😁

I try to hit a Walmart on weekends in some state.  I got on a grapes addiction I get all excited when I see them . The flavor is always different. Blue berries too.  Walmart pringles .  It’s always been peanut butter . I would sleep 1-2 hrs then wake up . And then get a few spoons of peanut butter then go back to sleep.  Haha.  I,m now allergic to peanut butter. Which sucks I always Loced it. Walking past it on the shelf is soo hard.  I get chicken breast & a bag of spinach too.  On my day from rail yards yrs ago. Doing laundry I would say to my pal Pat a Vietnam vet & his wife . Time me I bet I can eat this spinach bag in 5 minutes.  He would laugh while I,m going nuts eating it.

Micro-wave popcorn is my go-to.  They've come a long way since the Jiffy-pop stovetop shaker pans.  Although nothing beats them around the campfire.  Orville Redenbacher imo has the formula down with taste and total corn popage(?).  Even makes it in kettle corn style.  I've tried the organic, black corn, gluten free brand, but the one that cracks me up is the gourmet brand. Yeah, when you're really trying to fit in with the stuffy society types serve them up some "gourmet" microwave popcorn and a bottle Mad Dog 20/20.

Ritz Crackers and cheese.  I usually go 12 Ritz, 3 slices of American cheese slices folded into 4's.  Put the cheese on the crackers and throw them in the microwave and melt and burn the shit out of the cheese.  Faster than a commercial break.  If you get better quality cheese from the deli it is even better, especially hot pepper cheese. But it takes longer to melt and burn the shit out of it.

X2 on the Orville Redenbacher.  No need for salt, or Molly McButter 😆 (Although a little powdered Moly McButter has never made popcorn worse)

Sliced venison jalapeño/cheese summer sausage from Cinnamon Creek processors, sharp cheddar, and Ritz crackers.

The short stacks are 12-13 crackers.

Oh, and a couple or 4 good beers. (Which may or may not have come from our 10 gallon brew system. )

Microwave popcorn was my go-to, until my wife made me some on the stove using olive oil instead of vegetable/canola oil. Once it's done, add a little salt and some MSG, and you've got yourself a winner.

Aside from red heads, I do enjoy smoked salmon. I usually put up 2-3 salmon and, throw them in a zip lock bag after it cools off. I put the bag in the fridge for two days so the flavor really gets into the meat. Once that’s done, I vacuum seal 4-5 pieces in several bag and, toss in the freezer.  I usually pull a bag out on Saturday mornings to thaw out and, it’s ready for the races that afternoon. It’s a little work but, I am able to grab a bag that’s ready when I am.

Cousin’s RM. (95 250)….. (Much appreciated)..

Salmon is a staple in my house. It isn’t a rich dudes chow here. 4 months of fishing and, filling a freezer allows me to have it once a week on Sundays for dinner.
Swing by. Fresh Dungenous and, coho on me.

Not as much as I'd like to.  Had to turn to the daily fruits and vegetable capsules.  Although I wouldn't recommend them as a Quick Comfort Snack.

Biltong......our version of your guys Gerky or what ever it is.

I used to live on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. A couple every day. Easy lunch and an easy dinner. Assemble:

-White bread, the most unhealthy but tasty white bread you can find spread with butter on each slice.

-Creamy peanut butter

-Grape Jelly,  has to be grape.
