Imagining a world without supercross

With supercross doing its normal routine of thinning out half the talent early on, tracks becoming one lined & leading riders opting to play the consistency card way before the season ends. I can’t help thinking whether the factories would be better off putting the money into a true World motocross series.

Instead of an overly long drawn out sx series, what about a 20 round true international world mx championship, create a series where US sees multiple races on a variety of track styles, hit every continent & time the country with favourable weather conditions.

I still think there is a place for sx, but have sx as more of a novelty support act to what would be the main attraction of international off road racing. Like a marketing exercise gain a bit more publicity to the casuals etc

Best of the best consistently racing each other internationally is what we should be aiming for to grow the sport.

Just a couple of random thoughts -

SX is a made-for-TV spectacle, meaning it's the cash cow.

Who's going to pay the trillions of dollars needed to move 40 riders (per class), and everything associated with them, around the globe for half the year?

I like your way of thinking but for me it would be a 18 round US outdoor series and a 18 round MXGP series. That way the DES NATIONS keeps its luster. Plus I like following both series. Yes I'm selfish.😁

SX is the the glitziest and most glamorous form of dirt bike racing in the world.

I realize that it's impossible to make such a big change but SMX Playoffs should build towards SX, not vice versa.

I would love nothing more then this. I’m also sure with the exception of a few riders that they would all choose to race motocross year round and no supercross if they could make the same amount of money doing so.

If only that WSX guy had taken all that Saudi backing money (I think it was like 70 million??) and bought out Luongo, bought out mxsports and created exactly that series you speak of. Or maybe they just bought out one series and then with that money they could have started or financed teams to get started and still had enough to pay to get all the best riders.

They big thing would be to present it similar to F1, moto gp, and Tour de France. Invest big time in the tv production. Currently mxgp does a better job at this then the ama series but it could still be better.

Keep tv subscription and ticket prices down in order to get huge viewer and attendance numbers and then make your money from advertising. We need to get des nations in France type of attendance numbers at every round

We need to stop relying on industry sponsers and the only way to do that is to stop presenting it as a stupid monster truck/WWE type “action sport”.

As long as the magic supercross goose keeps laying those golden eggs, it will always be the main series.

But I think you’re mistaken if you think supercross is more dangerous than motocross. The issue is timing; riders getting hurt indoors before they get to race outdoors. Theoretically, flipping the schedule could solve that… then we would end up with riders hurt before supercross starts. And of course, the reality of scheduling stadiums during the height of stick and ball season keeps this from ever happening.

I know, you look at 20x MXGP champion Herlings who has never raced supercross and never had an injury /sarcasm.

As the sport has progressed here are more races than weekends. Many MXGP racers got to regional races and sometimes get hurt. **it happens when you are reaching for that next level speed or the guy beside you finds he doesn't have it and crashes into you.

Spot on. People want to have a short drive, sit down indoors, use a proper toilet, have internet, easily accessible snacks ad drinks not to mention viewing the whole track. Motocross is the core, the most freeing and beautiful form of riding, but Supercross sells

Now that was quick to get enough downvotes to get hidden.

Just give me 20 AMA Outdoor nationals, and I'll be just like a pig in shit.

As someone that prefers MX over SX, that would be great. There's one big issue. The series can't even get a couple of tracks to go into rotation, so having 20 would be impossible.

One of many reasons why it has absolutely no chance of being considered...
