Already know I’m gonna get downvoted big time for this and I’ll start with the fact that I’m a NorCal guy & a Daniel Blair fan from even before his days at Geico Honda.
Did they conspire against him ? Yes
Was he the best guy on the broadcast team but still was treated like the “little brother”? Yes
Was he a little soft and got butthurt way too much and ruined his chance of eventually being promoted instead of just accepting the way corporations work ? Yes
Looks like in the end he’s better off now, probably making a lot more money with his current endeavors but it’s a fact he burned bridges by being too emotional & not accepting the way things work.
Same for Leigh.
Tell me you missed the point…. Does your car think for you?
DB was a wanna be/never was racer. Ricky is the GOAT. There is no arguing this. RC probably has more national championships than DB had race wins in his life. People on the outside, and many on the inside, want to listen to someone who has won...and Ricky won everything, regardless of their "eloquence" with the English language. RC has been there, done it and won it. DB simply found out the hard way what the pecking order is.

There are ALWAYS 2 sides to every story...............
They've been doing this for a long time for sports that aren't stick and ball, I think a lot of it stems back to the success of the first years of the X-Games and making Biker Sherlock and Tony Hawk into household names.
This episode is why I don't blame the lower tier on-air talent too much if I don't like their segments, they are there to do a job and can't just do whatever they think would be best. Same reason I don't yell at the cashier because eggs are too expensive.
I feel like the one thing people can do to be heard is to not watch the next broadcast on Peacock. Just watch it on Youtube. A ratings dip is the only thing these networks understand.
We all know how big business operates with shit like this bro. They need a couple days to make up their story, get on the same page and smear the little guy. Which is the same reason why all of this is out now anyways. They smeared the little guy.
I could honestly give two fucks what the CEO of peacock/NBC has to say at this point
I wish someone would get rid of Bondo already... he seems to be the the epicenter of fucking sucking at his job and bringing everyone else down. RC can kick rocks. Have Weege, james, and DB. Diffey can shove it as well... Little fat short man with another ego issue is funny
And?
Why can't RC defend himself? If it's as bad as that comment implies, and RC would come out looking BETTER, why can't he defend himself? Because of the position he's in? Sounds like "defending" himself might do more harm than good, huh?
Of course there is another side to this, like everything in life. Nobody is saying there isn't a different perspective opposite of Blair. As of right now, that's the only one the public has, and the public reaction is obviously aligned with that.
I hope RC responds and gives his side, not because I disagree with Blair, but because having both sides is always better.
Honestly, nothing Blair said in his Whole Truth video is scandalous. It is standard corporate politics where folks align to protect their positions and management may favor connections/clout over competence.
But the 2023 Arlington Blair's Breakdown video is the one incident where Ricky is just indefensible. To step on camera while a teammate is filming their recorded production segment just to belittle and embarrass them in front of fans (customers) in a goofy power play is wildly unprofessional, and it comes across that way in the video.
The fact that Diffey told DB not to "compare" announcers is, for me, the most interesting aspect of this whole imbroglio. Just complimenting one announcer clearly isn't a comparison, and it points to how brittle guys like Diffey are in the face of criticism. As for RC, I feel bad for him for all the hate comms, while at the same time wishing he'd just go away.
Someone as successful as the GOAT must hate to know that while he's definitely improved over the years, he's still not good enough and everyone from James to Jmart does a better job. It's hard to believe the execs don't know how much the vast majority of fans want to see him replaced. Nevertheless, seems like RC will stick around for however long he wants.
IMO it just lines up with what Blair is saying. RC is Mr corporate and wants to get nice and close to big daddy business and now that he is, he has to wait for his boss to run to his defense with an official statement.
The whole thing smells of RC being too big for his britches. It’s what got him in this mess and why he can’t “defend himself”
One more reason I have no social media accounts. Freaking cesspool. I hear of my relatives trashing each other on social disease media.
I've got no dog in this fight for Blair or RC.....but this is the most level headed and rational post I've seen on the subject.
Are you the site quality control guy or something? Do people get points for posting things you deem appropriate? How does one get the position of thread level headed post checker guy? 😂
Easy. A complete lack of self-awareness lol
😂
I was just busting his balls. Just find it funny when dudes feel the need to temp check posts instead of talk about the forum topic
But now I’m doing the same thing sooo. Well fuck 😂
Pit Row
I approve of this post ^^^ ...and thanks for the idea.
Yah to me, Lee Diffy is the real ego maniac here. RC may have been a dick here and there. But it also sounds like it was people around RC more than RC himself most of the time. What Blair said about Lee blew my mind. I was surprised that somebody in that position would act out like that. But in a way, it shows how close everybody is to getting replaced . If Lee wasn't worried about being replaced, I doubt he gets so upset.
At the radio stations my mother worked at in the past, anytime a new station manager came in, everybody was on edge , wondering who was going to go. Sometimes a new GM would fire the entire lineup and bring in their people. Going from network to network , or if people at the upper level were changing, I could see them all worried about getting replaced and doing what they felt they should do to not get replaced.
I'm not ready to totally label RC as a bad guy here. I can understand why some may feel that way. But I feel like the higher ups hold the real blame.
There aren’t enough hours in a day for you to have more than one account...
I kinda figured you were. 🤣 Can't tell sometimes though.
I can't win. People label me "negative" for "complaining" about the broadcast or anything and everything under the sun....but when I post something "positive" people flip out as well. Damned if I do, crucified if I don't....
Some posts are "thumbsup" worthy...some are worthy of a response.
Likely an NBC call, just like how they handled IndyCar broadcasts. A ton of fluff personal interest stories with zero relevance. They recycle the same model that they use for Olympic coverage. Once you've picked up on this, you can't unsee it.
Fox took over IndyCar coverage from NBC and the season opener was this past Sunday. Fox pulled 45% more viewers than the same race last year on NBC: https://x.com/A_S12/status/1896942064748880128. It was the most-viewed IndyCar broadcast outside of the Indy 500 in over 14 years.
tl;dr - NBC Sports sucks at covering motorsports.
RC has the same platform(s) and more reach than DB. He could easily defend himself if he wanted to. I will give him credit for not being petty and blocking people the way Leigh Diffey has.
Ricky steps in at 12:33 for anyone who hasn't watched this yet. Wow, what a cork soaker.
I wonder if the NBC crew felt like Daniel had aspirations of going to a bigger sport and just wanted to use SX as a springboard/audition? Maybe RC thought DB was trying to show him up just to try and go elsewhere? Just random thoughts now that we’ve had time to digest it.
I don't know.... seems like two guys giving each other the guff....
...but honesstly, what do I know, I'm a nobody in this sport. 😉
Wow, talk about a bunch of high school drama and a perfect example of the pile on effect....
A few thoughts, probably very unpopular ones:
1. I have never given a shit who is announcing the races. I've been happy with all of the commentators, all along. Not one of them affected my viewing experience. Why? Because it seems no matter who is announcing, I'm two steps ahead of the commentators while I'm catching stuff they aren't seeing. Examples - seeing a front runner drop like a fly, hearing the crowd go wild and knowing something big happened, seeing a bike problem that they aren't seeing, seeing a rider case something and appear to be stung, knowing there's a heated battle going on when they are showing someone riding alone in 6th, seeing someone crashed out and they didn't even mention it after the race, etc, etc. And this is due to bad producers, not bad commentators. It will likely never change. Either way I don't understand why you guys get so bothered and caught up with who's announcing the races, even though I do realize some might be better than others.
2. I had to watch Blair's youtube video to see what all the fuss was about. Blair showed way too much emotion in his delivery and ruined what could have been a much more effective/nuetral message to the audience. I like Blair but to me his bitterness is palpable in the video, and not a good look. These types of cut throat demotions and what seems to be "unfairness" in the workplace happens daily, so I'm watching his video and saying to myself, "welcome to cut throat corporate America Young Blair". He could have and should have been waay more nuetral, but instead he appeared to be emotionally drained and super bitter from the incident. It would have been a much better look to just tell the story as if you are a witness, instead of what appeared to be a plot for revenge. It's very hard to leave emotion out, but if you are going to go big like on Youtube then you've got to tell the story with no emotion/bitterness.
3. The pile on effect is out of control.
He can defend himself.
He just needs more time to "preperate."
That’s what folks were saying here before Blair’s statement came out: just two buddies busting each others balls -- despite there being palpable awkwardness from both in the video.
But now we now know from Blair’s statement that not only was there professional friction in the week leading to the segment, but that it was a negative enough moment that he opted to never shoot another Blair’s Breakdown.
