Trump and MUSK know that their base is uneducated and not the brightest bunch. One tactic they use is to make very complex problems sound very simple to fix. Just like when Trump said he'd end the Ukraine war in one day. His base eats this up and actually believes it, even though he's now changed it to 100 day. Who cares, just throw a headline out there to satisfy the mouth breathers.
Musk is also using this tactic... he's going in to these government departments, spending a day or two, and then just decides to cut thousands of jobs. He doesn't know the ramifications of that, and knows nothing about said departments, but he figures cutting thousands of jobs will make great headlines for Trumps base who are blood-thirsty for this type of stuff. He will worry about cleaning up the mess later, but for now the goal is to flood the zone with all kinds of headline worthy cuts to departments and programs, without a care in the world as to what problems it will cause. Musk doesn't give a shit, he's a mega billionaire and none of this affects guys like him.
Trump and Musk strategy is to exploit the low IQ of their base, plain and simple.

I hope they are successful. I just don't think they are headed down the right path. And ultimately Trumps success is probably mostly dependent on how he handles the Ukraine war. If he blows that, he's done. Biden never recovered after the Afghanistan pull out, and Trumps handling of Ukraine has the potential to be much much worse if he doesn't handle it properly. If he allows Russia to win, then emboldens China to invade Taiwan, all on his watch..... colossal failure.
