Looking for input/advice. I’ve never been one to travel and chase Mx races. But for this year I plan to broaden my horizons and hit some races with full gates and more competition. I’ve only raced my local small series here in Kansas City with the exception of the Ponca race I hit last year (humbling to say the least).

So far I’ve got the RacerX vet series and just looking for any other recommendations. I’m a 36 yr old washed up “never-was” racer and would like to experience a more “real deal” season and grow as a racer.

Side note: Saturday races are a BIG plus.

Thanks in advance.

There was a vet series down in Texas.  Moto Masters I think it was might still be going that I have been wanting to do some but haven't made it down there yet.  I would say down here in OK but our vet numbers are about the same as up there.  I lived up there before we moved to OK.  Tracks are a crap ton better and more plentiful down here but vet numbers about the same.

That's right Crutcher, Moto Masters is about to start next week at Johnsonville MX. The first 2 races are in north TX. I'll be hitting both. Bring it!

You can always hit some Loretta’s regionals if you’re looking for competition. Ironman may not be too bad of a drive.

You'll get a bunch of differing opinions when it comes to LL stuff on here but if you are looking for full gates and competition that's as "real deal" as it gets for a vet motocross racer. They're doing a good job of having regionals at pro national tracks too which is cool so that could add to the experience for you getting to race on a track the pros race. Seems like you're pretty centrally located so you could do Millville or Ironman, or if the South Central schedule makes more sense Underground MX isn't a pro track but it looks awesome.

Caveat with that route is, probably even more than Ponca, the humbling part. The Area Qualifiers maybe wouldn't be so bad but the Regionals tend to be pretty gnarly. Not exactly a gate full of guys that are there to have "fun" in the traditional sense. Not to say you can't have fun battling guys wherever you fit in in the field but if you're looking for some races that are a little less serious maybe try Red Bud Vetfest or something like that. Just depends on how much you really want to challenge yourself.

Providing the weather cooperates, I have never been to a better race than Vet Fest at Red Bud.  They don’t prep the track as deep and gnarly as they do for the national or LL regional, and everything runs like clockwork.  Plus, you don’t need to wait through 75 different minibike classes for your race.  I personally avoid amateur day on national weekends because the tracks are so deep and gnarly because they’ve been prepping and watering for the whole week prior plus you’ll have to wait through all those minibike classes.

Is this a Vet only race, or are there still all the minibikes classes, too?

Thanks everyone for the input and suggestions. Really looking forward to hitting RedBud and/or Millville. Been sayin for a while I wanted to start hitting some of the epic big tracks before I get too old.

The RacerX rounds are definitely gonna be at the top of the list. If anyone has any tips on budgeting/racing on a shoe string budget feel free to share! I do a great job on bike maintenance/parts but as far as traveling, always looking for travel hacks to stretch my season. Cheers!

Yeah I was gonna say Millville Memorial Day weekend that would be rock solid. Maybe go race rumble at the ridge in Iowa at oak ridge. That’s probably not too far. Sunset ridge should have a vet fest I’d think, definitely put that one on the list.

Does thunder valley have anything vet?

Got that one on the list. Still haven't made Oak Ridge. Was gonna check it out last year but 4.5hr drive to ride in 30mph winds made me puss out 😜

Gonna look into the Daytona race. thx!

Hey also, What is the format on these RacerX races? 2 moto format? 10-15m long motos?

Racer X Vet series is great. Normally Friday afternoon practice you can ride your ass off. All the tracks in series are great tracks with promotors that run through the limited to vet classes fast on Saturday and generally done by 3:00 or so. Tracks don't get as rough as normal races so you can lay up on the ibuprofen. 😉

That's one I've been trying to to get some buddies to go do.

If your NOT an A Rider in the Midwest all the gates are full because nobody moves up to A Class. If you are an A Rider good luck having more than 7 people in your class. Racer X Vet series same guys win B class every year, they are all to worried about having fun but apparently it's not fun unless you win LOLOL

I glanced through the results the other day from the last couple seasons and I didn’t find that to be the case.

I do a few rounds of the RACER X Senior Series, but like others have said, same riders getting 1,2,3rd year after year without class movement. I'm not going to get 1, 2, or 3 anytime soon, but  "I don't know man", you're setting fast A class times.

I concur. Vet Fest at Redbud is awesome. All big bikes, the track isn't as beat, and you're done on time if not early. I am hoping to get back there soon!

All kinds of gas apps out there, Walmart for food, kwik trips r everywhere in Wi. @ Mn. No atm fee , reasonably priced food, fresh meat is much better than Walmart . Kt bratwurst r delicious 5 for 4.49, cheap gal of water. Some r truck stops cheap showers 7-8 bucks.  Some flying j or pilots r 25 bucks.   Sleep in your van in the gas island area sprinter vans always sleep there , no one bother you.  30,35 b is not that big of a class , 50,55b is the biggest. Red Bud has the biggest gate, Aztalan a close 2nd.  Millville doesn’t get that many not sure why. Sunset ridge is the best track . The turn out for vet races is the same as a local maybe a couple more.  Ride once a week or twice if you hv time . No need to be a super trainer . It’s a series for vets not a national . Although some call it a national
