I get both sides of the coin for why the rules were changed. Let's take the scenario, race is 90% over, but there has been multiple passes back and forth. The person in front at the red flag wins. Is that fair? Then on the other side, we have what happened. So, I think there have been arguments for both, that seem pretty fair. But, let's say, 99% similar to what we saw happen, or some number similar to that. Then, the argument should be, you should have passed before the last couple of turns. Or equally, another argument could be, what if green flag guy is at the same start line, a person behind him yells go, for each rider. The flag guy waves flag at intervals. Each rider would go at how many seconds they were behind rider in front. It seems like there are ways to make what happened, never happen the same way again. Just my 2 cents. What do you guys think?
How about a 95% or 99% rule? Or how about timed spacing. Here's the arguments

How many threads on this are we going to have 🤦🏻♂️
They could switch the rule to be a percentage, but the red flag could still come out 7 seconds before the percentage is met.
If everyone would stop crashing we wouldnt have this problem.
If the lead rider has a huge lead, call the race, but if two riders are in a battle with 3 laps to go I say run the last 3 laps. I don’t think someone should be screwed that has put in the effort and gapped the field but at the same time I don’t want a good race ruined because someone crashes who isn’t fighting for the lead.

My suggestion was to use the leader lights. They're already on the bikes and could be fired off at the exact timing intervals. Wait for them to light up and take off. Go early and you lose a position.
Use or adapt the technology that's already in place!
250 race done at 12-13 laps, 450 done at 18-20 laps, simple enough, let's not over complicate it.
Oh, and enforce existing rules.
they did,
Great idea....I wonder how much the riders see the leader lights though.
Good in theory, but can you imagine the AMA being in control of that?
At the very least don’t let the trophy guy anywhere near it 😂
Sorry I wasn't clearer. I meant about lappers and such.
I want to know where all these folks that have a problem with the red flag rules have been for years? Mind boggling actually.
Most people didn't have a problem with the 90% rule. Even RC, RV etc believed it was still under that rule. They changed the rule within the last 2 years.
So what is the problem with the 3 lap rule other than it didn't work this time for one particular rider and the broadcast team was clueless?
If you listen to his interview he decided not to go inside in the sand due to the risk. Nothing to do with a restart.
But what about the lappers? Would they have to wait a full lap to go?
Depending on track design, how would it work with the leaders coming back onto the start straight with guys still lined up waiting to go?
Well, they have the smarts enough to program the leader lights to strobe across the bikes on the starting line. 🤣
