The best part of the third 450 main was Eli catching and passing Sexton like a rocket, and we had to watch it in that god damn split screen bullshit while they showed us a replay of Jett putting his foot down… they could have waited til any other point in time to show that replay. instead they ruin the most or one of the most eventful and exciting parts of the last main event. (AND THERE WAS NO REPLAY OF THE PASS UNTIL THE POST RACE SHOW)
It literally happens every single week. I know because when it happens i am yelling at the TV, and it happens so frequently, the production is just straight GARBAGE. To me it seems almost purposeful the way they cut away from the best racing to put a split screen on someone trying to make the pass for 6th. and it’s not like they cut away for just a second , they always leave it there for a PAINFULLY long time before they finally go back to the full screen of the race for the lead. It constantly happens even when there is a close battle for the lead between the stars of the sport.
It’s been happening for years, I’m pretty sure i made a thread like this 3 years ago because they were doing the exact same dog shit. I highly doubt anyone from Feld will read this but damn you guys need to learn how and when to use that feature. i don’t care if this is unpopular im sick of it
The split screens are the worst! Just show us any good battles that are missed during the intermissions.
I understand they were trying to see where Jett got hurt but they do this shit every damned week. Play the restart and other highlights the end of the race. It’s not like stick and ball sports where you’ve got no action for 30 seconds. They miss so much doing replays in a live race.
i love watching the race on our eleventy billion inch tv and having the race in shown in two iPhone size boxes.
At least they didn't use the split screen to show riders not even racing that main.. During one of the 250 races they dual screened to show Roczen "getting ready" for the next main. Every single one of the 250 team managers needs to go ream the production crews asses. We are only air for 15 minutes and you cut away to a guy putting on his jacket?! Give the 250 teams sponsors the air time, what little they get anyways. Roczen will get his time in the next race.

To me the drone doesn’t belong in SX, the live feed from it is not good enough quality, and even watching on a big screen the riders are all too small, the old Spider-Cam was waaaaay better.
At times the production can be a bit detached from what is happening in the track.
So why is that Felds fault ?
They don't even slit the screen in 1/2 they make 2 small screens with all kinds of dead space.
Thank you for this thread. I was tempted to make one myself. The #1 golden rule in sx tv programminng needs to be if theres a battle for the lead dont show any other “battles” going on on the track. The lead is the most important battle going on. After that idk why they cant just focus on one thing at a time. Split screen should only be used sparingly when theres 2 cant miss things going on. And even then it should only be quick. Focus on one damn thing at a time. I always end up yelling at the tv when I’m trying to watch something and then they split screen it. They need to go back and watch how they did it with old races. They were able to focus on one thing at a time perfectly fine back then and we werent missing out by not having 15 different boxes on the screen.
The split screen tries to makes it so you can watch multiple things at once but in reality it just makes it so theres too much going on and you end up unable to focus on either one. Plus it puts the racing in a tiny box so you can hardly see shit.
Less split screen!!!!
I’m curious too.
There is another current thread where all this is discussed. It's the same shitty amateur hour broadcast every week.
It's never going to change without a clean sweep of those in charge.
At times?
That's a mighty optimistic view there....
Respectfully disagree.
I like the drone shots. While the quality could be better, the views are worth it.
I kept telling my son there is no other sport that does a split screen like SMX. Imagine if that’s your first time watching it and there’s a sweet battle in the 250’s and you can barley see it because they want to show Roczen puttin his coat on for 5 mins !!! Mean while you hear the crowd going crazy”there’s Kenny putting his coat on getting ready for the 3rd race” hahahahaha
The dead space is baffling … I need someone to explain that one to me 🤷♂️
Yup. I was literally cussing the feed because the crowd is going nuts about something while we watch some dumb ass split screen shit or a guy riding around alone on the main screen.
SX producers need to watch how the MXGP races are done.
They make big screen tv's for a reason, not so the producers can cram more shit in tiny windows.
Between the split screens and the endless waffling about anything but the on track action from the announcers, makes for a hard watch.
Somehow we survived for 35-40 years without split screen just fine…
Pit Row
The most hilarious part was RC having no idea what was going on and weege basically telling him he has to shut up because Eli is passing for the lead.
Agree. It would be okay for a few seconds here and there but it’s way over used. They didn’t have the drone in round 1 or 2, forgot, and the flow of the racing was much better. In fact, that weekend production got good reviews here on Vital. Then back to the same crap. Weird.
I'd like to think that the broadcast team is doing this because of our complaints about them missing incidents/action on the track. I appreciate the attempt but agree about the dead space - use as much of the screen available! I hope the continue to listen to our feedback and make improvements.
Look at the amount of wasted space. Its obnoxious.

Come on guys if you have to use split screen dont make it tinyyy. Thats probably a big reason why it annoys ppl so much, so hard to see.
Weege did well. He has to call what's on screen. But he constantly had to interrupt Ricky while Ricky was brain dumping long winded drivel.
100% thats the main gripe. Just call the action on the track and leave ALL the other talk for pre and post race.
And when anyone falls down they show them picking the bike up and riding around too long.
They did it again saturday where theres a battle going on for the lead and they cut to split screen so you can see a different battle going on, but now you cant see whats happening on either screen… I get that they want to show other battles going on, but the lead should take precidence over everything else. One thing I noticed is they really dont like showing replays anymore, so instead of showi g a replay when theres a break in the current action, theyll just cut to split screen and show them both. We dont need to get rid of split screen all together, but theres also nothing wrong with showing a full screen replay when theres a brief pause in the action. The more full screen stuff the better imo. Split screen should be a tool in the tool box that can be used when needed, not a crutch to lean on for half the race.
I’ve always acknowledged the issues with production (split screens, broadcasters, etc) and have thought it could be better. IDK why it is, but this year it’s really getting on my nerves. Lee is beginning to be Ralph 2.0 with the random ass trivia, too much damn interviews during the races. And too many “I spoke to (insert name). It’s just too damn much now. Let me hear the damn bikes and see good racing😫
There really isn’t a good way to fix that. Each video is a separate 16:9 panel displaying on a 16:9 aspect TV.
Ive kinda took a back seat to commenting on the issues with the broadcast but im just curious;
Anyone else stand up to get closer to your TV or bring your screen closer to your face so you can focus on the specific battle in one of the frames?
I’ve mentioned this previously but the way MotoGP displays a “split” screen is pretty great. Main battle they’re talking about on the main screen, other battles pop up on the left side in the race position that it’s currently happening in.
Probably a small fortune for the broadcast to switch to something like this (I have no idea but if someone knows please enlighten us) but it’s easier to focus your eyes on those smaller windows on the left side of the screen vs. two boxes of the same size.
ARrrrrrrghhh.....this really pisses me off.
