My buddy had an 89 or 90 KDX. He couldn't ride very well, usually ended up being pissed at us, took the most terrible lines that made it a bitch to follow him.

But I rode the thing quite a few times, and besides needing a bit more poop, and maybe some front end enhancements, you could rip in the woods.

Stepping off the 500 to the KDX was like, "Shit! This thing rails!"

I'd love to try a new one, especially if it's a 250-300.

Yep the KDX's were slow.  I rode a buddies KDX 200 around 1990 at a local arenacross for fun.  . Motor was lacking compared to my modded 125's  and the forks on KDX had hardly no travel. .  But it was still faster than Honda's XR 200 four banger at the time.

Had a 1991 200: FMF (Fatty, I think?) pipe w/ mod’d stock silencer such that it was a really long KX125 looking silencer (gutted the sparky). Boysen reeds…ported by Jon Stoodley of JSE. Suspension by Jake Thompson. That bike rocked. 

Raced plenty of 250 MX races at places like Hollister, Marysville, Sand Hill.

That bike was a blast.
