I'm not trying to defend Gibson in any way but...I have an uncle that acted EXACTLY like this. It started with small off the wall comments and actions and over about a 10 year period he turned into the most vile, whore mongering, homeless nut job you can imagine (he was a preacher). Turns out he had a tumor in the (I'm no doctor here) part of the brain that controls emotion, decision making, sex drive. They removed the tumor and even though it almost blinded/deafened him...he pretty much returned to normal. Bad news is...the tumor has returned and so has the behavior. Pretty sad.
