I also get that 950 nm converts to 700 ft lbs. That doesn't seem possible.

You're doing the conversion correctly, however I am guessing they are doing something similar to what's talked about in this article.

Anyone who knows anything about power delivery knows there is no way in hell the Stark is putting 700ft/lbs on the ground. It's just not.

Yeah I was thinking that because it was at the rear wheel and the Cummins number is at the engine. I don’t think it was disingenuous in the above plot because it was a comparison of a dyno that’s measuring torque at the wheel against a 450.

It goes even deeper than that with EV numbers. They claim some insane things and get away with it because of math that's way out of my league lol

That article does a decent job of explaining it I think.

Yeah, the math is just calculating how much torque each motor is applying through the final drive to go from motor to wheels. The hummer is more complicated because it has different final drives on different axles and 3 motors. It’s more simple for the bike, just 1 motor, 1 wheel, and 1 gear ratio.

It almost seems like, in the video, he's just trying to nudge that other rider. But on an ebike, it isn't a little power like you normally get.  It's full on 60hp or whatever.  So, although he may not have meant to rider over the other rider, I feel like he was trying to mess with him. Jmho.

BTW, are not these Varg limited to 48hp or is it all about the torque?

Yeh, I get the whole wrist wide open. I'm just saying, maybe in his mind he had different intentions. I've seen a lot of riders do stupid things, but haven't seen that type of move since Bradshaw v. Matesivich.  Lol. I just feel like maybe he was thinking, quick on and off to bump him, but there isn't a quick off with it.  Just a quick on. Who knows. Just was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt that he honestly didn't plan to completely run up and over other guys bike.

Not sure where he gets his info but a 450 does not make hundreds of (lb-ft) @ the rear wheel.

Do they apply the gear ratio to those torque numbers so you don’t have a to specify what gear the test is done in? Or is there some standard people follow like 5th gear or first gear or something?

Most of the time the run is made in 4th gear. Where the rubber meats the roller.

You want it as close to 1:1 as you can get.

Just looking at the numbers but yz450 in 4th gear has a gear ratio 10.61:1, if you take that stark graph, take the 450 torque curve for 4th gear and divide by 10.6 you get about 34 ft/lbs which is a reasonable number.

One thing no one has mentioned is that there is bad blood between the two.  Tim cost Taddy a AMA EX championship in 2019 and Taddy absolutely lost his mind on him.

My take from the outside looking in is Taddy wasn't riding well and took out his frustration on Tim.  Before and after the incident Taddy 's hot laps in practice were still 2 second slower than the b practice leaders.

Blaming the bike is a bad look.  He's had two years to develop the bike and be ready to compete at the top level and I think the reality is that time has caught up to Taddy and he's not the guy he once was.

Im still a huge fan of Taddy, He was the man in his time.

To be fair with the “two years to develop the bike” portion, he never got to ride the bike he spent two years developing, since the FIM rules came in much more restrictive than what Stark had developed with Taddy.

Yeah I agree with that some what.  If Eddy wasn't killing it on the same bike I would probably give it a little more weight to why he's not preforming that well.  FIM messed with power and that will affect the bike for sure, but look what Johnny did on basically a stock 250f in the first rounds of EX.  The bike was underpowered but he was still able to get second.

If you think the stark only makes 34ftlb, you obviously have never ridden that bike.

To be clear, they not only messed with the power, but added a hugely bloated minimum weight requirement (270 lbs) in what is essentially an open works bike class, with no minimum weight limits on any bikes.

I didn't realize that.  How much does a Stark weigh out of the box and do you know how much time prior to racing the first event they were notified of the new rules?

It's listed at 260 lbs stock, but supposedly Stark had been prepping Taddy's bike with a lighter custom power pack for the lower power/range requirements of SuperEnduro.

Ok. Guess we derailed this enough. Long story short the stark graph above agrees with the dirt rider graph if you divide by the 4th gear total gear ratio of the ‘23 yz (primary x 4th gear x secondary) or they just made up stuff for the stark graph. We can get back to trying to get into Taddys mindset.

You could be right, if you meant he was trying to do a 90°.

A 360° turn would have put him in exactly the same spot.

IMO... this is a case of..... electric being electric..

for example... when you tag the throttle on electric... like when taddy is standing next to the other rider... it goes WFO... but it doesn't have a tranny... so Taddy was getting the same as 5th gear pinned, at a Dead Stop... Hehehehe... fun times right there!!

The other video.. where he nearly loops out... IMO.. that's just a case of... wait for it....... almost there........... also electric...!

I've never ridden the Stark... but... my guess is.. they softened up the power down low for that tight azz track... which.... moves all that luscious power up top... IMO.. he gave it a "squirt" of throttle on the jump face, and got ALL the power at once..... basically.... electric power sometimes feels buttery smooth... but can be programmed to be gnarly AFFF too...

However...... this brings in a bigger problem that not many of you have faced or maybe even heard of..... I've race electric for 2 decades... we have a term for when it all just goes randomly haywire........ and its called glitching......

ever have your phone just do something wonky out of the blue?? or anything electrical for that matter??

Now imagine you get a little "glitch" on your 80hp electric bike while riding.... doesn't take much!! especially at the wrong time... it might cut power, it might give you ALL of it - randomly... LOL....  I've seen it mostly when whatever speed controller im using is dying.... i've seen them die and go WFO permanently.... LOL..... these are electronics we are talking bout here.. not pistons and rings... LOL...

then there is blowing a rotor.... i have yet to hear about this happening much in the motocross world.... but it happens when racing electric... when your rotor lets go... it basically breaks/and or shatters and the rotational forces slam it against the can...... feels exactly like when an ICE engine completely locks solid...

gas has its downsides... electric does too... Taddy isn't wired for electric thats 1000% for sure... LOLLL
