Hi all, question to see if any one may have any knowledge on this matter. A while ago I got a registration sticker for my stark in the mail, wasn’t expecting or thinking I was supposed to being newer than 2022 and closed coarse only.
I just got in the mail (pic attached) stating that my registration is suspended due to no insurance.
Question is, do you think if I insured it and payed the $14 reinstatement fee that the DMV would send me a plate? The paper shows my license plate number for my Mx varg. If this happened by mistake and worked out that would be pretty sweet. And I recall I’ve heard of something similar happening to someone else. My varg already has a headlight, so to add a taillight and BS blinkers this thing would be even better urban assault bike than now
Thanks

I got the same thing but didn't do anything about it as I just ride it on private tracks.
I would put insurance on it either way, haha. But definitely pay that $14 and see if you get a plate. If you do, you can ride it anywhere year round. Also, would be pretty fun with a supermoto setup on the street.
As I understand, you can take a regular mx bike, add electric motor along with lights, blinkers, stoplight and horn and get a legal license plate, at least in California.
If it is possible. Would be perfect for my use, I already to ride it on a little bit of road to get to spots. But if I had a was to slinky add the plate and just rear light to be mostly legal would be sweet.

Look at your registration. If it doesn't say OHV or MX under "body type," then California messed up and thinks it's a streetbike.
No, you cannot legally do that in California.
I would go in and talk to someone and see if you can get a plate. I suspect there is more to it since the license suspension means they won't give you a current-year sticker. Get basic liability insurance... then say the plate is lost... you could have a street legal motocross bike.
I've heard the CARB lists of green sticker & street legal models don't apply to EV's. Not sure what else the DMV needs for a plate.
We are at the mercy of what the DMV decides. If they give you an inch, take it!
Yes. Get insurance and pay the suspension fee. If you only ride tracks, immediately file a planned non-op after you receive the plate.
Whatever you do, remember that registration, fines, and penalties are due the entire time your bike's registration is suspended. The DMV won't send you anything during that time, but they will fine you and add penalties for non-payment while it's in a suspended state. I've been burned on this in the past.
That is apparently what happened to the guy I sold my 2020 KTM350 SXF to (I am in Florida) He went to switch the title over to his name and said the DMV was asking for the odometer reading on the bike. He explained that it was a motocross bike and that it was not designed for street use. They were not having it... He basically had to get a state official to certify that it was for competition use only. They ended up issuing him a plate. So he now has a certified street legal KTM 350.
See my comment above. I did this exact thing and it will screw you when you go to sell the bike as you'll be required to backpay the past registration, plus fines and penalties on top of it all. The workaround is to get insurance for the month and then pay the suspension a few days later. Once done, file a planned non-op. You can do it all online.
Thanks for the heads up. I'll get on it.

^ I like your graphics. Nice touch with the lightning bolts on the "Honda" wings.
Looks very similar to the '95 CR graphics, complete with the "1-800-COLLECT" sponsorship.
Yes! Those graphics look really good on that bike!
Richie, I have a buddy that registered 2 electrics when he lived in Escondido way 4-5 years back
Yes it was a 95 homage for sure. Matt at Throttle Jockey did them for me and as usual they did a great job.
