Where’s Greenland located as it relates to the North Pole…? 

Seems like they got the names of those places backwards. 

Iceland isn't always ice, and Greenland is rarely green.

And the N Atlantic…and mineral…and sea floor exploration…and…Empire…and submarine bases…etc.

This is exactly right. Iceland is absolutely beautiful and the people there are wonderful.

Precisely, and China has exhibited interest in Greenland. The last we want is for them to have a presence in our Hemisphere. Same holds true for Russia.

If only there were some sort of entity, or group, that countries could like the US and Denmark could join to make sure we support each other so that China doesn't take over Greenland and leave our hands tied to only provide support via proxy. 

Greenland fun facts off the top of my head.  My sister was stationed there for 3 years and I got to go there for a long weekend once.  It is not that far away.  Time difference between Greenland and EST US is only 4 hours.  If you have ever been to Europe from the US chances are you flew over Greenland on the way home.  Thule Airbase and the Radar command over Europe and Eastern US is in Greenland.  The same command based out of Ramstein in Germany and Aviano, Italy that scans the Middle East.  It is a very strategic place for US and all of Europe without even considering the shipping lanes. It is well known, well documented and well established Greenland is mineral rich including Ruby, Gems and Gold.  The USA has a long established history in Greenland and the Airbase is the life blood of the town and people surrounding it.  Denmark treats the natives like second hand citizens and the US treats them well.  I wouldn't be surprised if it happens.
