With Oak Hill following the Freestone race and Tony Millers skill at promoting and managing I see the Freestone race as a much better choice.

Whitney has been on a downward spiral for years, Honda of Houston lost interest or something and turned it into a total waste, then the McWilliams family came in offering sunshine and roses but produced nothing short of Crap!

I know that just about everyone I talk to about Whitney are sad for the history to be lost but are not sad that the people managing that mess the last 4 years are gone.

The writing on the wall was burned in stone after last year’s classic. Should be interesting to see the numbers for Freestone and Millcreek, also I wonder who will go where with the economy so down, will factory and riders go to a double race in Texas or a race in Alabama with a mad dash to Oak Hill.

Well poop, I've lived in Austin for over 8 years now, and never made it up to Whitney. It was always on my list...

Lived in Texas nearly all my life been to Whitney tons of times, guess it's off my bucket list.

Sorry you didn't make it, sounds like you had a few chances, you would have loved the place. The track is like none we have here in the lone star state, the river was cool in the summer also. I know I'll miss the track but not the hassle and the feeling of getting rapped every time I went through the gates by the rudest people I've meet in MX.

You missed a great track, the best dirt I ever roosted in.

And here's yours truly going by scoring at the 2001 Memorial Day Classic.

Glad I got to ride there before they closed.

Best dirt by far that I ever roosted too.
We don't have any real dirt like that here in Cali.

Alan McWilliams will be on DMXS Radio tonight so we can end the speculation and deal with facts.

The Spring Classic race is going to Millcreek, Freestone will have the first annual Freestone Spring Championship. This is to coincide with the GNC Finals at Oak Hill the following week. Whitney has been dead for many years, at least in the form that it was in its heyday. When Jerry Surber sold it and it became a hunting ranch, the zest it once had was lost

Everyone knew it was coming, but it still hurts to hear the news. Best track in Texas, by far... What a shame. Makes me wish I didn't blow off my last several opportunities to go there.

Danny Doss hanging it out on those whooped out sweepers.

Geeze this is an OLD THREAD!

I'm resurrecting dinosaurs. 😂

I'm from San Angelo and raced our track in 76 & 77 on a tricked out 75 CR125 and Big Springs track also. At the start of the race season for 76 I believe I raced 6 local races and 5 races in Big Springs before going to Lake Whitney for my first BIG race.

We were very middle class of I didn't hitch a ride with someone to the track my dad would take me in his companies pickup they provided him from Budweiser. Lol If Dad took me he didn't know how to work on the bike as he traveled a lot and I had learned to work on my stuff myself so no biggie but I couldn't go relax/cool down line others in-between Moto's because I had to make sure the bike was ready for the next moto.*A flat was a BAD thing to happen. 😂

I raced the intermediate class. During practice I truly felt like I was ripping on clouds. I was 15 then and 61 now and have rode a ton of tracks and none have come close as being as soft and loamy as that track. Some of that quickly changed when the racing started. Then you had the ruts, the chopped up whoops etc to deal with.

I moved to AZ 33 years ago and raced my 89 CR500 at Whitney someone before we left in 91.  Super sad it's been shut down.

Hope all is well ✌️

bummer, no offense to freestone, just a shame to hear that about whitney.

I've turned a lot of laps at the Lake Whitney track...years ago. Great track & great people as I recall. Sorry to see it go.
