My latest project... Bought a 2001 CR250 on November 10th. Always wanted to do one, the latest model with the older (better?) engine

Planning to do a stock look. Jon Primo did my engine, vaporblasted all my parts other than the chassis stuff which I did by hand. Got the suspension serviced. Had to buy a new cylinder though, that's the surprises you get when you buy something old and on OfferUp... Got a Specbolt restoration bolt kit. Got new rims and spokes from Faster USA. They vaporblasted the stock hubs. Came out great. I like using stock hubs on my builds. They look great vaporblasted and cleaned up. Got new plastics from UFO. They always have great deals on their site. The guy I bought the bike from in Hesperia gave me an extra stock pipe. I had them refurbished at Front Range Pipe Repair in Colorado. Brandon always does a great job. It had an old spark arrestor PC silencer on it that I tried to make a regular shorty with but gave up on it. I scored a stock silencer on eBay for $50 that I refurbed myself.

I finally got everything to put it back together and started yesterday...

I'll maybe do another session tomorrow since I have a pretty mellow day and will post updates on here...
Always great to see a DV bike build!
Wow your getting really good at restoring bikes. The 01 was a great bike . The president of our local club raced 250b on one . He also jumped a red barn in Wi. On the bike , which is crazy. I saw my pal 62 yr old at the ymca lastnight. He bought a new 01 he has it in the house with lights beaming on it in front of a big window. I talked him into getting a 125 last yr . He was a pro long time ago & in amazing shape now.
Had a 99 a while back. That motor is the real deal.
I did another session this morning. I just need to build the brakes, the rear wheel, put the chain...

LaRocco, Lusk, Tortelli…Which direction is this beautiful 2001 headed?!
Looks great… that engine is clean….the reassembly part is the best….
I have some FMF shorty silencers laying around. I was really into that gen 2 honda chassis for a while.
What is up with the front rotor and spacer? I dig it!
I'm not sure. I bought a few parts from an IG follower and he gave it to me. Looks like a HRC replica though
Done!
Well done!
If you ride this, I recommend:
(1) FMF SST pipe
(2) 10 to 20 mm powervalve cover spacer
After much experimentation, these ^^^ mods really woke up my 2001 CR250R that I rode mostly at sea level.
+2 on the SST pipe with the silencer combo.. Best exhaust set up I ran on an 01 with engine mods..
The key was running a 430mj to keep the crown of the piston cool. This was @ sea level.
10mm spacer is what most folks run, 15mm is the most I've ever heard of and doing that definitely will interfere with the pipe until the ball peen hammer adjustment to the pipe. I run a 15mm unit with custom mods to the cover to recess the bolt heads and special bolt, still need to dent the pipe to pull it off.
I picked up an '01 this summer. I plan to tear into it next year once school's done. It's got a cool story behind it, as its a bike my dad bought new and has my grandfather's engine building company markings sketched into the cylinder head from when he worked on it back in '01. Nearly 15 years later, and several owners, the bike is back in my hands. I'll be sure to post a build thread in here. Thanks DV for the inspiration! I'm sure I'll be chiming into this thread for any recommendations 😁
