I was pretty much set on flipping my low hour 23 Honda CRF250R and get a 25 Beta 450Rx. I had my Honda on consignment for over 2 months at a dealership. At a decent price and never had a look. When I saw dealers with used 23 Hondas like mine with same hours just south of 6k I knew it would be hard to flip. I had mine priced at $6,400 and would have taken less, but not $5,900.
So I picked it up my Honda and brought it home few days backs. I put the pencil to it and could dang near buy two 24 KX450’s for the price of one Beta. Same for keeping my 23 Honda. I can keep it buy a green bike and come out the same or even better. So I found the best deal I could on 24 KX450 and bought it over the phone. I didn't get the screaming deal some did but good for my area. I still have to drive 5 hours to get it. Houston area dealers don’t offer the screaming deals, don’t have too. To much oil money made in and around Houston.
So the old guy spoke green with his wallet. Never owned a KX. I’ll pick it up day or two after Christmas, or right after the 1st of Jan. It wouldn’t have changed my life style to buy a Beta and I like. ETA’s, I have a 300 RX. But when you read the review's, the KX probably gets the nod best I can tell. I’ll hang on to my Honda for a while. No need to take a beating if I don’t have too. May even throw a Luxon triple clamp on the Honda and have fun with mods/making it better. My Honda is a little persnickety ya might say.
I like dirt bikes, fun hobby for this old retired guy. Way cheaper than some of my past hobbies.
I’ve seen new 23 crfs for 5999. It’s going on 3 model years old won’t be long before 26s are on the floors the factory editions are showing up now 25.5s.
45-5 for the crf is realistic if it’s under 25 hours or so.
But besides that, congrats on the kawi!!
Yeah, I saw a couple of 23 Honda on Facebook market place for 5500 with low hours. The days of getting decent money for used bikes are long gone. We are back to where we were years back. The only difference now, they are twice as much new as they were a few years ago. It’s still cheaper than a 120k bass boat!
I’m kinda excited about this green bike for some reason. Maybe it’s the ability to tame the engine down map buttons and traction control. I can do that with my Honda but not sure it has the same affect as the KX from what I’ve read. The phone app is cool. I’m retired from an Industrial tech company so I like the tech stuff. I’ve already ordered oil filters, frame guard and skid plate and haven even picked it up yet.

Grease the linkage and steering head bearings before you ride it. They are almost bone dry and you won’t have to clean them before greasing them if you do it now. Enjoy! I love mine.
Thanks for the heads up. I wouldn’t have done either. My last Honda and last Beta were greased up good.
I'll be 68 in February and love my KX. I play on some 2strokes but aways end up back on the green bike. Enjoy
Just brought a 24 home and linkage was dry. Will do the front of the bike this week but expecting the same
If you pressure wash your bike, keep an eye on those steering head bearings. I get in there and smear some grease around every 20 hours or so.
Thanks, I will make sure to do that. I'm usually on the anal side and will grease everything more often than not, seems like cheap insurance.
Congrats! You may as well replace your chain, and chain guide before your first ride while you are greasing the steering head and linkage...and check every bolt on that bike...and often. I've never had bolts just fall out of a bike like they did on my kx. Otherwise, super fun bike, easy to ride...I'm sure you'll love it.
If you’re on the anal side, it is probably much safer to grease everything more often than not. 😂
