I trust that if our friend Marx was not justly compensated he would excuse himself from obligations as such.

Just busting Steves balls a bit is all. 😀

10-4, your other questions were good so I thought you were serious 😂

That was one of the first ones in a while I listened to the whole thing, like you said there’s not much action right now so I was just happy to have something current moto related. All the old mc stories and his mindset and training was sick, I was cracking up at the grip install race, Paul was really bummed about his sweaty palms from the nerves lol.

Would you rather see more Matthes memorial bowl corner nets or 90-2000 whoops make a return?

Yeah, IDK man...I want whoops back but the thought of flat corners on the outside of the stadiums is scary so I'll go with that.

Will the industry idiots league return for 2025?

I don't know, that's Truman's thing and up to him. He's a busy dude, it's a TON of work.

Thanks for the discussion, ML and I were talking the other day and he mentioned this...mostly it's never good when you're on here but this wasn't too bad!  LOL, I get it- we do have lots of partners..someone added it up a year ago or so and out of five hours, including the 22 min commercial, the ad reads were total 45 min. So that means 4 hours, 15 minutes of moto talk. Not too shabby?

This show here, like others have said I mentioned it would be Renthal heavy, they launched that grip and chose us to be the world wide launch point which was cool IMO. There's not much going on in the sport at this time, I wouldn't do this in the race season so I said sure. Payton and MC were great though! Love to hear the stories. Since I'm here, let's do a "Ask Me Anything" and I'll try to respond.

How much longer do you see yourself running/hosting the show? Out by 2030?

Thanks for giving us something to dream about through the season with the Yamaha giveaway, too. Looking forward to winning it next year.

Not kissing your butt, but I thought the show was good and PP is one of the best hosts in my opinion.

Ask Me Anything:

Not sure if I'm cynical after watching Supercross for 35 years, but do you think the powers that be at Feld will ever look at making changes to supercross?  It's just the same thing year after year in terms of track design (actually it's getting worse with the 9 whoops and no dragons-back), lack of dirt, the same jumps and format and in my opinion it's stale.  Right now everyone on this forum is probably fired up for A1 but if Jett goes on the run I expect him to it's going to be the same old thing a few rounds in.  You have hinted about wanting to see a superpole, do you think they will make any changes moving forward?

I'm not sure, they brought in TC format which has been awesome but IMO the tracks need a refresh in terms of layouts...in terms of 9 whoops and no dragons, then DEF need to think of some things that would help. Why not 2 footers and 6 footers? Nobody knows? We have so much of the same obstacles, the riders have everything down within five laps of hitting the track, we have shadow software to help make sure they take the absolute fastest line, the bikes are better than ever...SX does need to re-think things. Add Superpole, bring in a "B" main, more dirt is def needed (remember the old Houston CE Altman tabletops?). The guys in charge are good dudes but there's a real fear to change too much which at times hurts the sport.

You had Andy Jefferson on your show a month ago or so and asked him some questions about the health of the company of which he gave corporate answers

At what point will you do a deeper dive and ask the viability of the KTM's USA racing operation? You said on one of your recent podcasts that you thought Sexton would sign with Kawi next year. Is this because KTM is a risky employer or ongoing problems Chase has with the bike?

In talking to people there, the USA racing side of things seems safe. There's lots of people within KTM that are thinking they'll take some hits here but the restructuring plan will work. I don't think the race team is in danger at all. The Sexton thing was under the "give us a hot take for 2025SX" segment...I prefaced it with I have no knowledge of this, it's a hot take. I just don't think Chase will get back to his 2023 level on the orange bike and like a lot of top riders, he'll look elsewhere to a bike that he thinks he can get back to that level.

So with no new States added to Pulp Fantasy have you (or are you ) thinking of partnering with someone ( like bet online &nbspWink to run fantasy thru them    ? I honestly thought thats what was up when they joined as sponsors

No new states, we went down the road with a couple of states, paid a sports gambling lawyer 12K for help but man it's tough. Very invasive, very expensive, lots of work and then being affiliated with BOL wasn't helping us in some cases either. It sucks. There's no way around it. Trust me, I'd love to go back to the "old" way and maybe we still can if things change.

Paul Perijbinos, AKA the "Shimoda Realist" is a representative of Renthal, a sponsor of Honda.

Was there any pushback from Lars or Honda about his, what some would say, negative impression of Jo?

None at all, Paul never heard from anyone. Lars agreed with him on some cases, it's just an opinon (one that's been proven correct so far) and Lars and Honda don't think PP "hates" Jo or anything. People can agree to disagree in this world and still be friends. I know for some people this is hard to believe.

Steve Im the guy who left you a voicemail about your Ridgeline Key when it broke.  I do have a question:

How much prep goes into each Pulp show?  What does your week look like to get all you need prepared for the show i.e. guest lineup, topics, etc?

It's about 3-4 hours of prep for each show including lining up the guests and doing show notes. I start Sundays in lining up guests, I go into the studio 3 hours before the show to start the prep with notes, things I need to talk about etc. Funny but most shows, after five f**king hours, I still have notes on my pad that I want to talk about.

Yamaha guys are so rad, with Fantasy, the LCQ raffle and this "new" thing I'm doing we have 6 bikes to give away. BLU CRU guys def support the sport and it's rad. I def think I'll be out by 2030, I started wrenching in 1996 so that would be 34 years of going to the races. LOL, that's more than enough time. I turned 50 which is scary AF...IDK man, everything is going really well and I'm thankful to our listeners and partners. Still, it gets old getting on a plane all the time, this year I went to 22 out of 31 races, 4 trips to Europe (Paris, UK twice and Italy MXGP) and Vancouver (WSX). Kind of a grind but there's worse ways to make a living, I could be digging ditches in East Texas right?

That show was gold! The info on bars was interesting to me (I’m bouncing between 604 and 827), having Mcgrath and Payton was great, and the guests seemed to genuinely enjor the conversation. Keep up the good work.

Now, I’d love to hear a long discussion with Jody Weisel. Has anyone ridden more bikes?

You'll still be around in 2030 but things will be different.

I think you are progressing your company well. Your brand is established and it is clear that you are bringing in younger talent in a subtle way so as to lesson the travel load and creative content burden on yourself

"The Now", is what you are currently doing with going to races and reporting on them through interviews and the review show with Weege and JT$

I can see that you are cultivating "The Future" of your business by bringing in guys like Kellen, Lewis and Rarick. There will be other young talent that will surface that will join the family, Osbourne? Nicoletti? Blair?

By 2035 you will be the Roland Hinz of the internet, with a half dozen guys under you reporting not only US races but the MXGP's too.

I mean come on Steve... you love to work, that is why you are successful. What are you going to do? Buy old bikes and do restorations with our pal DV, then sit outside Starbucks reminiscing about the old days like you are in some quaint European city?

You’ve definitely had a good thing going, I listen to the show every Tuesday morning while mindlessly working through spreadsheet data, could be worse for sure. But yeah, five hours of moto talk for us desk jockeys is a godsend, keep it going as long as you can, for our sake, lol

Matthes: Warning, this show will basically be a Renthal ad. In studio is a guy who is one of the marketing leads for Renthal. We'll have Mitch Payton on (has used Renthal on his team exclusively), and also Jeremy McGrath, who used Renthal for his entire career except one year. His mechanic will also be on. They'll talk about a lot of things that aren't Renthal related as well.

I understand not liking the show, or Steve, or the ads, but to bitch about a free show you aren't forced to watch or listen to is insanity.

We're so jaded with all this free, behind the curtain content. Ppl forget that not all that long ago you had to wait a week and catch the race on at some random time. Or read about it a month later in a mag (that you paid for). It's literally mind blowing that moto fans are whining about a FREE show they don't have to listen to. 🤯

Steve, I wish your show had the content to fluff ratio that your posts here do.  If they did I'd still be a listener.  (Note that's not a complaint about ads, it's about hours of talk that is not relevant).

Hands down the best show in the industry, even with all the other ones now.

I've been a listener for 6-7 years, pretty much every single episode.

Steve definitely seems like a douchebag, but what do I care? I listen for the scoops not because I want to be the dudes friend.

Steve, why did Brad Lackey in 1982 always seem to use that very small stubby visor on his Aria helmet? Never thought about it at the time, just started wondering about it last 5 years or so……. It did look cool, but with 500cc roost, seems bigger would offer more protection.

Also where is the Mark Barnett podcast?
