Well, some “unknown kid” took a shot at The Donald…and a few weeks later another kook did…pretty sure we’ve had quite a few presidents and other powerful people shot or shot at. Never mind the number of police officers murdered these last few years.
My observation: None of that is what’s at hand in these posts that stray from the truth of the Brian Thompson assassination.
Again, a coward shot a man in the back. A psychotic punk that built his own gun. They’re already outlawing/have outlawed those…especially in the non-gun communities. Last time I checked, murdering someone in cold blood was as illegal as it gets.
My point: too may people are trying to make this something it’s not…or trying to water it down in other minutia. Too many people are somehow trying to justify this. And that’s just sad.
I don't personally see anyone really trying to justify it as most here have common sense, but more about how we could see why someone did this. Some people break. They see profoundly large compensation packages paid out to people who run these companies, while they are living a life much like Damien posted above, all because it was cheaper for the company to say you are not covered/denied.
Not saying it's justified, just that's it's understandable it happened.

If we are operating under the assumption that medical treatment is a finite resource, should a 75 year old's cancer treatment be prioritized over a 7 year olds?
Should an 75 year old's cancer treatment be partially paid for by Medicare but a 7 year olds not?
Should cancer treatment be prioritized over treatment of vertebral damage resulting from a surfing or motocross accident?

Glorifying any murder is sickening. Supporting vigilantism means that whoever is offended by any of us should be able to kill us, which is obvisouly wrong.
I feel for people with medical/insurance issues. Our family has dealt with snafus quite a bit, some of it inconvenient and some of it life altering. But it's never been an option to simply kill anyone who I felt wasn't making the correct decision. And it shouldn't be for anyone, either.

I was thinking this morning that this guy is the face of the current "look at me" culture that we have in society. The desire to get any attention is better then no attention.
He comes from money, has degrees from Princeton. He could have really done some good in his life to help reform our health care system. instead he goes the short attention span route in hopes that society will hold him up as some figure who is doing the greater good.
The more i think about his families status and his obvious intelligence the more disgusted in him that he wasted his life by doing this act.
Ironic how most of the people supporting this murderer due to the fucked up healthcare system are the same people who supported fucking up the healthcare system in the first place via Obamacare.

How did you come to that conclusion? Seems like quite the blanket statement. I don't support the murderer and believe the ACA is objectively NOT a failure. Though, it certainly has a few "holes" that will probably not be filled in the next 2-3 administrations.
I think it's funny people think the system was "fine" before the ACA. The ACA passed for a reason (though watered down for all the reasons our government doesn't work). People have been pissed about healthcare and their health insurance for a loooong fucking time.
Let's not all pretend we didn't live it. My parents (both working, both decent income) struggled to keep my brother and I covered for years. I can also vividly remember an incident that wasnt covered when I was about 10 years old that really messed things up for awhile.
Funny enough, I worked for Anthem right around (before and after) the ACA was passed... In small business claims. I remember being blown away at some of the hoops people had to go through to get things covered after denial. Pre-existing conditions was a huge problem too and I remember being relieved to find that wouldn't be part of the escalations anymore. I also think it makes perfect sense to cover annual check ups (preventive) for free. Keeping people informed about their health helps them stay healthier longer, leading to less care, expenditure, etc.
Edit: Just thought I'd throw out something else... I believe a huge part of the problem today is the lack of price transparency. That and the complex billing ("negotiated rate" with insurance vs cash, etc.) for any service only serves to benefit hospitals and the insurance companies. If people were able to more easily "shop" a medical service or procedure, things would likely improve.
Just to be clear, I am not on the side of Insurance companies and this whole "healthcare" fiasco has been a mess since ObamaCare was implemented.
What side I am not on is individual lunatics, deciding to be judge, jury, and executioner. This lunatic decided that the CEO was solely responsible for all his issues with UHC. My biggest issue was for all he knows this CEO could have been a big advocate for patient's rights and was working to change things for the better.
That aside, the Vitards who thought this act was remotely okay just reaffirm what I think of some posters here. This should have been addressed in a civil matter, not the way it was.

Suspected UnitedHealthcare CEO shooter was not a client of the insurer.
The man charged with shooting and killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City was not a client of the insurance company, according to a representative from the major corporation.
On Thursday, FOX Business received confirmation from UnitedHealthcare that Luigi Mangione was not covered by the company.
NBC New York interviewed NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny on Thursday, during which time he said investigators had uncovered evidence that Mangione knew UnitedHealthcare was holding its annual investor conference in the Big Apple.
Mangione also reportedly mentioned UnitedHealth in a note he was in possession of when he was arrested by police in Altoona, Pennsylvania on Monday.
“We have no indication that he was ever a client of United Healthcare, but he does make mention that it is the fifth largest corporation in America, which would make it the largest healthcare organization in America. So that’s possibly why he targeted that company,” Kenny said.
So how could this dude be wronged by the guy he shot and killed?
